Trivia

  • Despite being based on a fish and living in the water, Stunfisk is not of the Water-type.
    • Its Pokédex entries state it can reside in mud as well, despite taking super effective damage from both Ground- and Water-type attacks.
  • Stunfisk is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 471.
  • Stunfisk has the lowest Speed of all Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • Stunfisk is the only Template:Type2 Pokémon in the brown color group.
  • No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Stunfisk.
  • Stunfisk is one of four Pokémon immune to one of its own types without the aid of an ability. It shares this trait with Gligar, Gliscor and Landorus.
  • Stunfisk is the only non-legendary Ground-type Pokémon that is not related to any other Pokémon by evolution.

Origin

Stunfisk seems to be based on a flounder or dab combined with an electric ray. It may also be based on the stargazer, another fish that spends most of its time buried in the sea bottom and can make electric discharges when disturbed.

Name origin

Stunfisk is likely a combination of stun and fisk, the word for "fish" in most Northern European languages (from Old English fisk), or a combination of stun, fish, and disk, in reference to its flat shape. Maggyo name is likely a combination of マッド maddo, mud, and 魚 gyo, fish.
