The Vast Poni Canyon (Japanese: ポニの大峡谷 Great Canyon of Poni) is a location on Poni Island in Alola, located north of Ancient Poni Path. It is where the player battle Hapu in her grand trial, and the location of an old trial site. The player also meets Mina, the sole captain of Poni Island here.

The area produces a special magnetic field that allows Magneton, Nosepass, and Charjabug to evolve when leveled up in the Canyon.

Trial

As the trial is abandoned and not attended by a captain, the trial itself is straightforward. The player proceeds forward in the Totem's Den, battling a wild Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o as they proceed to a pedestal. Before they can retrieve the Dragonium Z from the pedestal, they are attacked by the trial's Totem Pokémon, a Kommo-o.
