Job (Mystery Dungeon)

A job in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series is a mission that can be taken by teams for various rewards.
Overview
Jobs are typically obtained from various job boards and by entering Wonder Mail codes via the game's main menu. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, there can be a maximum of eight on the board outside the Pelipper Post Office and four in the mailbox outside the Team Base and the player can have a maximum of eight in their job list. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, the player's job list increases in size as the rank does, up to a maximum of 64. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, the player can accept jobs from the Wigglytuff's Guild's Job Bulletin Board and Outlaw Notice Board, which may have up to eight available missions each; as well as possibly one each from customers at Spinda's Café and bottles at the Beach in the latter's case. Again, the player can have a maximum of eight jobs in their job list at a time. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon for WiiWare, up to eight missions can be found on the Request Board and the player's job list. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, up to twenty missions can be found on both the Request Board and the Challenge Board. The player can have a maximum of sixteen jobs in their job list at a time.
Certain actions, such as entering a maze at the Dojo or practicing the Pokémon Tower with Elder Slowking, shall refresh the missions available on the bulletin board.
There are various limits as to what can be done:
- Only one job per dungeon floor can be taken at a time.
- In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, only one job per dungeon can be selected rather than multiple jobs in the same dungeon as in other games.
- In Red and Blue Rescue Team, as well as Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, if the dungeon has a rest stop, the team will exit at the rest stop instead of continuing to the next area. Consequently, missions created in Wonder Mail generators that are set in the next area cannot be taken.
- Only one escort mission can be done at a time.
- Some dungeons, such as the Hidden Land and Temporal Tower, will never have missions randomly created for them, nor will any dungeon that can't be revisited. Such missions created in Wonder Mail generators cannot be taken.
- Similarly, jobs generated or received from Wonder Mail codes cannot be taken if they take place in a dungeon which the player has not unlocked yet.
Types of jobs
In Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, there are many types and sources of jobs, some of which are restricted depending on the player's progress.

Story
Two storyline dungeons in Red and Blue Rescue Team as well as Rescue Team DX, Uproar Forest and Wish Cave, as well as the optional dungeon Howling Forest, are unlocked by selecting special jobs from the Job Bulletin Board. These jobs do not have Wonder Mail codes, will disappear completely from the board after the dungeon is unlocked, and won't appear in the job list.
Escort
In this job, the player is required to guide a Pokémon through a dungeon. The objective is to either reach a certain floor (which may or may not be specified in the job's description) or bring the client to a certain Pokémon on that floor. In Red and Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, and Adventure Squad, the entire team will be treated as having fainted if a client is defeated and cannot be revived.
Rescue
This job tasks the player with finding a lost Pokémon in a dungeon, either the client or another Pokémon. The job cannot be completed if the Pokémon faints before being rescued (such as through damaging weather conditions). A rare occurrence is that the rescue job is a fake, and when the player reaches reach the job floor, it will say "You've reached a destination floor! But where's the target Pokémon...?", and there is no Pokémon to find on the floor.
Bring item
This job requires the player to deliver a specified item to the client waiting in a dungeon. It cannot be completed if the player's team lacks that item.
Find item
This job requires the player to find a certain item in a dungeon. In Red and Blue Rescue Team, no floor is specified, while a floor is chosen in Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky where the item is generated by default. Taking this type of job with the item already in the team's possession and using an Escape Orb on the first floor will clear it.
Defeat outlaw
In this job, the player is required to defeat an outlaw Pokémon on the specified floor. It does not exist in Red and Blue Rescue Team. This job has several variations:
- The outlaw may run from the player's team when they arrive on the floor. The job cannot be completed if the outlaw reaches the floor's stairs. If the outlaw knows Teleport, it will be used. This scenario is only present in Explorers of Sky.
- The outlaw may be holding a stolen item which must be returned to the client Pokémon; while any matching item carried by the team will work, the player is required to defeat the outlaw. The stolen item will be sticky by default, likely to prevent the outlaw from using any consumable items.
- In a stolen item scenario, the outlaw may instead be hidden amongst the floor's normal enemies. Their species will not be known prior to encountering them.
- The outlaw may be leading a team. In this case, the floor will be changed to a special layout where Wonder Orbs cannot be used. This scenario is only present in Explorers of Sky.
- The outlaw may be in a Monster House room, even in a dungeon where they don't normally appear. This scenario is only present in Explorers of Sky.
Additionally, in Explorers of Sky, normal scenarios can also task the player with guiding Deputy Magnemite or Officer Magnezone until the outlaw is defeated. The normal consequences for a fainted escort apply here.
Special Missions
- Main article: Seven Treasures
This job type can only be received by obtaining the Secret Rank upon clearing Crevice Cave. They are exclusively obtained by Wonder Mail codes in Explorers of Time and Darkness, while players in Explorers of Sky can receive them from customers in Spinda's Café. Upon taking the job, its specified dungeon is unlocked and the top-secret job deletes itself.
Challenge Letter
This job type only exists in Explorers of Sky, where they are received from customers in Spinda's Café. The player is required to reach the specified dungeon floor and defeat the challenger. This is treated as a boss battle; Wonder Orbs cannot be used and rescue is unavailable.
Five unique variations exist where the challengers are Mewtwo in Sky Stairway, Raikou in Southeastern Islands, Entei in Inferno Cave, Suicune in Treacherous Waters, or Jirachi in Star Cave. All of these Pokémon will join the player's team after clearing the job, after which it will not be randomly created again. While the first four require the dungeon to be unlocked for creation, Jirachi's job unlocks Star Cave and requires the completion of Bidoof's Wish instead.
Treasure Memo
This job type only exists in Explorers of Sky, where they are found in bottles on the beach. The job's description does not reveal the specified dungeon; only the floor number and a hint that describes where a treasure has been hidden. The player's task is to decipher the hint and find the treasure. Traps are preset on these special floors and cannot be destroyed, with Warp Traps sometimes being placed to facilitate transportation past impassible terrain. Higher-ranked jobs of this type may require multiple Keys or even the ability to get past walls.

This section is incomplete. Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it. Reason: Difficulty values for a Friend Area reward. |
Each dungeon has an internal difficulty value assigned to each of its floors that is used to determine the rewards for the mission. An escort mission raises this value by 2 (but not above 15).
Sometimes, a job might offer double the Poké it normally awards.

There exists an unused internal value of 0 that would award 1 point, 100 Poké and be classified as E-rank, and has no associated item pool.
Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky
Escort and outlaw missions, as well as those with restrictions, raise the rank by one stage (but not above ★9). These increases do not stack; for example, an outlaw mission with a restriction, or one where the player is accompanied by Magnemite or Magnezone is still raised by only one rank.
While many of the values aren't used for the jobs, they are still taken into consideration for content of Treasure Boxes.
The % value applies to Explorers of Sky, due to the fact that in Time and Darkness, certain items are version-exclusive (such as Sun Ribbon and the Lunar Ribbon), and thus cannot be obtained in the other version except via generated Wonder Mail job.
A mission marked with ??? reward can award an Egg or a Pokémon instead, or the Pokémon's ★1 exclusive item if it's rank ★5 or higher. If the Pokémon or outlaw in question has no ★1 item, the player will be instead awarded a type Dust for one of its types (which is the only way to obtain these items).

Rescue Team DX
In Rescue Team DX, the amount of Rescue Points and Poké depends on the difficulty rating and the floor on which the mission is completed. On higher floor numbers, the Rescue Points and money gained will increase above the base values given for each difficulty rating in the table below. Specifically, missions that are completed on floors 10F-19F yield +100 Rescue Points and +200 Poké above the base value, and missions that are completed on floors 20F-29F yield +130 Rescue Points and +320 Poké above the base value.
Escort missions vary slightly in that the difficulty rating of a mission depends not only on the dungeon and floor, but also on the client Pokémon that must be escorted through the dungeon. However, the conversion from difficulty rating to Rescue Points and Poké remains the same.
A mission marked with "Special reward" may award a new Pokémon recruit as well as items and money.
