The Zinc (Japanese: キトサン Chitosan) is a type of vitamin introduced in Generation III. It increases the Special Defense of a Pokémon.

In Hoenn, Zinc costs $4900 during the Energy Guru sale.
At Join Avenue's Market, Zinc can be bought in dozens at $99960 each, which equates to $8330 per bottle.
Effect
Generation III to VII
When used from the Bag on a Pokémon, adds 10 Special Defense EVs to the target Pokémon per use, until it has 100 Special Defense EVs. It also increases the Pokémon's friendship a little.
Zinc is consumed upon use and cannot be used in battle.
Generation VIII onward
Zinc can now be used even on a Pokémon that has 100 Special Defense EVs or more, allowing the Special Defense EVs to be raised to the single-stat cap of 252 or the total cap of 510 this way.

Effect
A consumable item that raises the Special Defense of Pokémon that ingests it by 3 and restores 5 Belly for it (prior to Gates to Infinity). If the Special Defense stat is at 255, it cannot be raised higher.
If thrown, it will grant the same effect as if it was consumed by the Pokémon it hits (it cannot be caught); if it is sticky, it will also deal 2 damage. Zinc can be blended into a drink at Spinda's Juice Bar, although it has no special effects.
