History
Igglybuff the Prodigy
Even as an Igglybuff of young age, Wigglytuff was considered an exploring prodigy by an Armaldo that he discovered and befriended. Seeing him as a mentor and friend, Igglybuff called him "master" repeatedly, even when Armaldo told him to stop. Much like his older and evolved self, he was very carefree and naïve to the point of befriending the local bullies, Skorupi and Banette.
One day, these bullies challenged him and his friends Smoochum, Wooper, and Budew in exploring Murky Forest; he was the only one who didn't back away and return home. The three explored Murky Forest until they came upon a cave that the locals believed was inhabited by a monster. As the "monster" approached, only Igglybuff stood his ground, and he even tried befriending the monster, which turned out to be an Armaldo. Armaldo at first was suspicious and somewhat annoyed with Igglybuff's antics, but later he revealed himself to be an explorer, which piqued Igglybuff's interest. Armaldo then showed him a treasure map which he was unable to decipher, explaining that he had never been able to figure it out; but when Igglybuff got a hold of the map, he ignited it on a nearby campfire, much to Armaldo's shock. However, Igglybuff revealed that he did so because he noticed that there were two layers in the map and the only way to make the map readable was by burning it. The map revealed that the treasure was located in Eastern Cave; Igglybuff was excited and was eager to join Armaldo in obtaining the treasure. Armaldo was reluctant at first, not wanting to leave his home, but eventually gave in.
The next day, Igglybuff visited Armaldo again and the two of them paired up to venture to Eastern Cave. As they reached the end of the cave, they came across a treasure chest that contained a Defend Globe, an exclusive item said to boost the Bug type. Igglybuff was excited at their first success and began to call Armaldo his "master."
The two then went on many adventures; on one of their adventures, however, both of them were spotted by a Nidoking. Back in town, Igglybuff's friends noted on his disappearances and told his parents. The bullies claimed that he'd been disappearing into Murky Forest a lot lately, much to the shock and worry of everyone around him.
Eventually, Igglybuff and Armaldo came across and explored Fortune Ravine. However, Igglybuff's friends and family, along with the aforementioned Nidoking and Officer Magnezone, apprehended the two. Armaldo was revealed to be a B-Rank Outlaw, and gave into the arrest; Igglybuff, however, refused to believe that Armaldo was a criminal, and almost burst into a rage if not for Armaldo calming him down. Armaldo thanked Igglybuff for the happy times and believed that he would become a great explorer. As a parting gift, Armaldo gave him the Defend Globe from their first exploration, which Igglybuff, now a Wigglytuff, carries and treasures to this day.
Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky
By the time of Here Comes Team Charm!, Wigglytuff had fully evolved and developed a reputation as a promising explorer. While exploring Southern Jungle, Wigglytuff collapses from hunger after having his food stolen and is roused by Team Charm, who offer him a Perfect Apple. Grateful, Wigglytuff agrees to briefly accompany the team, helping to see past the traps and illusions laid by a Ditto to protect a Time Gear. Lured by the promise of more Perfect Apples, Wigglytuff proceeds to go on more explorations with Team Charm before eventually parting ways.
Eventually, Wigglytuff would settle down in Treasure Town and set up Wigglytuff's Guild with Chatot as his second-in-command, while exploring other locations such as Waterfall Cave and discovering their secrets. On one exploration with Chatot, the two journeyed into Brine Cave and were set upon by a Kabutops and two Omastar; Chatot shielded Wigglytuff from their attacks and passed out, prompting Wigglytuff to chase the Pokémon away and seek medical attention for Chatot. As luck would have it, a Lapras stood guard at the end of Brine Cave where a mysterious pattern was etched on the wall. Lapras agreed to help Wigglytuff, but also asked that he not look further into the pattern on the wall, to which Wigglytuff agreed.
During Bidoof's Wish, Wigglytuff leads the guild to Star Cave upon being informed by Chatot of Bidoof's actions, saving him from Team Rogue. He encourages Bidoof to seek Jirachi and finish his own exploration, but has to be held back by the Guild from pursuing Jirachi himself in hopes of wishing for more Perfect Apples.
Wigglytuff personally welcomes the player and the partner when they sign up to form an exploration team of their own, as well as Team Skull when they attempt to hijack the guild's expedition towards Fogbound Lake. Following Team Skull's actions causing the player to fail in their mission to retrieve Perfect Apples from Apple Woods, Wigglytuff nearly loses his temper but is placated by Team Skull's own offering of a Perfect Apple. Despite Chatot's misgivings, Wigglytuff permits everyone to join the expedition, and soundly defeats Team Skull offscreen when they attempt to knock him out. Upon discovering that the secret of Fogbound Lake is a Time Gear, he promises to keep it a secret at the request of Uxie.
Upon the arrival of Dusknoir and Grovyle, Wigglytuff initially orders everyone to work towards apprehending the latter. After the player and partner return from the future, Wigglytuff welcomes them back to the guild and believes their explanation of what happened. He makes investigating the Hidden Land the guild's priority, eventually recognizing the pattern on the partner's Relic Fragment, and realizes what must be done. On a private exploration, Wigglytuff seeks Lapras to tell him that given circumstances, he can no longer keep his promise of secrecy.
During the player's exploration of Brine Cave, Chatot is once again attacked by Kabutops and Omastar, prompting Wigglytuff to reveal himself and help evacuate Chatot while the player and partner continue onward to meet Lapras. As Lapras takes the player and partner to the Hidden Land, Wigglytuff explains his past with Lapras to the rest of the guild members.
After the credits roll, Wigglytuff appears under the guise of "the grand master of all things bad", a "foe" with his "minions" that the player must overcome in order to claim the treasure from Luminous Spring and graduate from the Guild.
Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon
After the player has connected with Bidoof and Loudred, they can accept a quest from Chatot's. His quest has him accompany the player's team in searching for the guildmaster, who has gotten lost again in a dungeon. Upon Wigglytuff's rescue, the pair will connect with the player and will be selectable.
Personality and characteristics
Wigglytuff acts very easygoing and somewhat naive, occasionally sleeping during morning briefings and referring to everyone he meets as "friends", which causes those such as Team Skull to underestimate him. He is known, however, for his explosive temper. Despite his childish behavior, Wigglytuff is an accomplished explorer and helps the team discover the mystery behind the Relic Fragment and the Hidden Land. He is also extremely powerful, proving able to withstand Team Skull's "Noxious Gas Combo", which has easily knocked out the player's team, as well as defeat Team Skull single-handedly. Wigglytuff also became serious when the Guild was asked to help capture Grovyle and also vowed to protect the secret of Fogbound Lake at the request of Uxie.
Wigglytuff has an obsession with Perfect Apples, and is known for crying out loud if he does not get one every day, as feared by the other Guild members, particularly Chatot. This obsession is taken further with a Perfect Apple being placed as a "treasure" for the player's graduation exam. Wigglytuff is also good friends with Chatot, having explored many places such as Brine Cave together.

Trivia
- If Igglybuff levels up to over Level 50 in the Special Episode Igglybuff the Prodigy, Wigglytuff will still be Level 50 in the graduation exam.
- Although Wigglytuff's gender is male in Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, Chatot refers to Wigglytuff as a female during Super Mystery Dungeon.
- This gender confusion comes up again in Super Mystery Dungeon. During a mission for an Igglybuff to deliver an item to an Armaldo, Armaldo states that the Igglybuff who made the request reminds him of 'his junior'. Armaldo reminisces and refers to his junior, as a 'he' when stating that he is now a world-renowned guild master.
- The gender confusion may be a mismatch in the translation from Japanese to English as Wigglytuff has been referred to as male most of the time.

During a mission for an Igglybuff to deliver an item to an Armaldo, Armaldo states that the Igglybuff who made the request reminds him of 'his junior'. - The artwork depicts Wigglytuff's fur color closer to that of a Shiny, in contrast to in-game appearances correctly resembling the normal version (but still having the green eyes of a Shiny).
- If the player loses to the boss battle against the "Grand Master of all things bad", Wigglytuff will push the player and the partner down the same pitfall trap they fell in earlier as soon as they enter Mystifying Forest Clearing again.
