Statues of Latias and Latios in Alto Mare

Latios and his sister, Latias, lived in the Secret Garden in Alto Mare, where they were the guardians of the Soul Dew. They were friends with Lorenzo and Bianca.

This Pokémon had a no-nonsense, very serious personality. Although he did not like to fight, he would attack intruders of the Secret Garden without hesitation or anyone attempting or succeeding to inflict harm on his sister Latias. As a result of his personality traits, he was extremely protective of Latias.

Latios and Latias presented some very unique powers in the movie, such as sight-sharing, invisibility and shape shifting.

At the end of the movie, Latios had to sacrifice himself to save Alto Mare, and turned into the new Soul Dew, just like his father in the past.

At the end movie credits, two Latios can be seen flying with Latias. They are believed to be the spirits of Latios and his father.

In The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon, he was seen in Pikachu's memories.

Personality and characteristics

Latios after sacrificing himself

Latios has shown to have been a very mature and unselfish protector, valiantly sacrificing his own life for the sake of both his sister and the town of Alto Mare.

Latios has shown to have deeply cared for his sister Latias, both affectionately playing with her and then soon afterwards boldly protecting her from being kidnapped at the hands of Team Rocket, which resulted in his capture and being subsequently weakened. Even after this, Latios was nonetheless willing to save his hometown, thus fulfilling his role as the Guardian of Alto Mare and soon thereafter following in his father's footsteps and becoming the next Soul Dew.

Trivia

  • Latios is the first of two Pokémon in the anime who perished in the present and was never brought back to life, the second being the Lucario from Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.
  • Latios's original voice wasn't retained in the dub, which opted to use Latias's Japanese voice actor instead.
  • In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Latios and Latias were shown being able to project what the other was seeing to the other and anyone around them. This may be a reference to the sight-sharing powers Latios and Latias had in Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias.
