A Guitarist (Japanese: ギタリスト Guitarist) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that debuted in Generation II games. They appear as young, blond men or (in Generation V only) black haired women, playing guitars.
They specialize in Electric-type Pokémon, as they play electric guitars. They may also use Pokémon associated with sound waves, such as the Whismur evolutionary line in Generation III, and the ZubatDP/KricketotPt family in Generation IV. They may have some relation to the Rocker class introduced in Generation I, and the Musician class introduced in Generation V.

May battled Jeremy, who seems to be based on the Guitarist class, in Weekend Warrior. However, he owned a Venusaur and a Butterfree, which are not Electric-type like the Guitarists use in the games. However, Butterfree are capable of using sound waves in the games, possibly referencing the Trainer class.
In Rocking the Virbank Gym! Parts 1 and 2, a Guitarist named Billy Jo appeared as a member of Roxie's rock band "Koffing and the Toxics".
In Battling at Full Volume!, a Guitarist named Jimmy arrived at the camp of Ash and his friends with the intent of testing the strength of his Pikachu, Spike, against Ash's Pikachu. Unbeknownst to him, however, the Trainer he battled was Serena, who disguised herself as Ash to stand in for him after he had fallen ill.

Trivia
- In Pokémon Platinum, Guitarist Arturo can be found in these Pokémon Center locations around Sinnoh:
- Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday: Pastoria City
- Monday, Tuesday: Canalave City
- Thursday, Friday: Sunyshore City
- There is data in Pokémon Platinum for a battle with Guitarist Arturo with a level 7 Kricketot, but it is completely inaccessible.[1]
- From Generation II to Generation V, the type of guitar used by Guitarists is based on the well-known guitars of Gibson.
- Many Guitarists found in various Battle Frontiers are likely references to famous real-life guitarists, including Iggy (Pop), Jimmie (Jimi Hendrix), and Les (Claypool).
