Desert Ruins first appeared in Mind-Boggling with Medicham, where the ground underneath the ruins served as a temporary meeting place for Maxie and the Magma Admins.
In The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon XIII, Sidney was stationed at the Desert Ruins as a part of Steven's plan to unseal the Legendary giants. Despite Sidney's best efforts to open it, the seal wasn't undone until A Royal Rumble with Regirock, Regice and Registeel II, where Steven figured out the key to unlocking it.
