Rest up, because the nearest Poké Center is located in Lavender Town, on the other end of Rock Tunnel.  It's a good idea to bring a few Escape Rope and a Pokémon that can dig, both of which make for a quick retreat if a Trainer's team gets into trouble.  A few Repels wouldn't hurt either.  It is also recommended to bring a Pokémon that can Flash the dark passageways.  Be aware that there are 15 Trainers waiting to battle in the darkness.
6 consists of a road running south from Saffron City and passing the southern end of the Underground Path on its way to Vermilion City.

Vermilion City
1F
Vermilion City is a popular port city located between 6 and 11. Vermilion Harbor sees many ships coming and going, including the S.S. Anne, which has recently arrived for its yearly visit on its voyage around the world.
The area near the entrance is pretty linear, so beat the PokéManiac and take the stairs down to B1F.

B1F
This section has five Trainers (though the last is optional).  Get some battle experience, and find the next stairway.

{| class="expandable" align="center" style="background: #leafgreen color light; 1em; border: 5px solid #firered color light;"
Pokémon Center
Visit the Pokémon Center and speak to the female Ace Trainer near the counter to receive the Vs. Seeker. This device draws the attention of any nearby Trainers that you previously defeated who would like a rematch. The battery is drained after each use and must be recharged, reaching full capacity after 100 steps have been taken. The device cannot be used in buildings or caves.

Fishing Guru 1
Visit the house in the northwest part of town to meet a Fisherman known as the Fishing Guru. Convince him that you love fishing as much as he does, and he rewards you with an Old Rod. This particular model is not the most impressive fishing rod, but it is useful for reeling in Magikarp.

Time for a Trade
Stop by the house in the middle of the city and speak to the girl inside. She is hoping to trade for a Spearow, and is willing to part with her Farfetch'd for one. Spearow are found nearly everywhere, but Farfetch'd is one of a kind. The Pokémon arrives holding a Stick, which boosts its critical hit ratio.

Pokémon Fan Club
The building to the north of the Vermilion Gym is home to the Pokémon Fan Club. Speak to the Chairman and listen to his rambling thoughts to receive a Bike Voucher in appreciation. With this ticket, you can return to the Bike Shop in Cerulean City at any time and exchange it for a Bicycle. Riding a bike allows you to travel twice as fast as walking speed.

1F
Three Trainers here, walk around to the right to find the stairs.
B1F
Another three Trainers line the tunnel here.  There is a Trainer in the southwest corner who will teach one of your Pokémon Rock Slide. The stairs to 1F are located in the northwest corner.
1F
Three Trainers left.  Defeat the trio of Jr. Trainers, and look for the exit to the south.

Finally, fresh air and sunlight!  As grueling as it may have been, all that battling was worth about pdollar11000, and it's not over yet. If medical attention is an issue, walk to the right to avoid the four Trainers loitering outside the tunnel.  Proceed south to enter Lavender Town.
The S.S. Anne is a popular luxury cruise ship that sails all around the world and visits Vermilion City once a year. This will not be a relaxing time, however, as there are many Trainers on board.

Lavender Town
1F
Turn to the right and take the stairs down to the lower floor.

Lavender is a tiny town, but it does have a few notable buildings. The Poké Mart in the southeast sells some handy new items, including Revives (which restores a fainted Pokémon to 1/2-health) and Poké Balls (an upgrade of the traditional Poké Ball).
B1F
This part of the ship is a dead-end hallway with five cabins. Visit the right-most room for a Super Potion and the middle room for an Ether. Pick up 44 in the fourth room from the stairs, then head back up to the main floor.

1F
Follow the hallway around to the front of the ship, and visit the second cabin from the left to get 31. Turn the corner and continue on to reach the kitchen. Grab the Great Ball in the corner and inspect the three trash cans for any forgotten items. Leave the kitchen and climb the nearest stairs to reach the upper floor.

The Name Rater
2F
The nearest doorway leads to the deck of the ship, where two Sailors are looking to battle. Step inside the second cabin from the left to get a Stardust, then visit the fourth room to pick up an X Attack. When you approach the captain's quarters at the back of the ship, Blue is just leaving.

The house near the town's southern exit is home to the Name Rater, a man who judges the nicknames that Trainers give to their Pokémon.  An odd occupation, but his services are free, so Trainers are free to change their Pokémon's nicknames as often as they would like.
Rival Battle 4
He again leads with his Pidgeotto, so use Electric and Rock moves for best results. His Rattata has evolved into Raticate, with an increased Attack stat that allows it to deal even greater damage with Hyper Fang. Blue's Abra has evolved as well, though its low Defense still leaves it exposed to physical moves. His first Pokémon has grown into its second stage as well. It is best to avoid pitting your own against it and use a Pokémon with a type advantage instead.

Kindly old Mr. Fuji, head of the Lavender Volunteer Pokémon House, has gone missing.  His disappearance may have some connection to the recent paranormal activity occurring in the nearby Pokémon Tower.  There's nothing to do about it right now, but keep an eye out for clues...

Pokémon Tower
Pokémon Tower, where departed Pokémon are laid to rest, appears to be the source of the town's problems.  Having a connection to the spirit world, most wild Pokémon found inside are Ghosts.  The rival is on the tower's second floor, but Trainers can put off that battle until later by avoiding the tower for right now. The spirit world's influence strengthens beyond the second floor, where ghosts and possessed Channelers are commonplace, but without a List of key items in Generation I, Trainers are unable to climb to the tower's top floor.
Despite his loss, he taunts you again as usual before walking away. Enter the captain's quarters to find him hunched over a trash can; it seems like he got seasick. Speak to him to help him out with a quick backrub and he will be feeling good as new. He gives you 01 to show his appreciation. This field move lets you chop down certain inconveniently-placed trees to reach new areas.

Restless Spirits
Be sure to collect all of the items on board before leaving, as the ship sets sail when you do. Use HM01 to teach Cut to a compatible Pokémon, then set out for the Vermilion Gym.

Most ghosts inside the tower are actual Pokémon in disguise that can be battled or captured once obtaining the Silph Scope. Gastly and Haunter are two of the only three Ghosts native to the region (the third being Gengar), so it's worthwhile to track them down.  The one true spirit in the tower blocks access to the final floor, but since Trainers cannot hope to battle it yet, it's best to ignore it for now.  There are rumors of a Silph Scope prototype in Celadon City, so pack up and head west.

The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electric Pokémon. Electric-type moves are super effective against Flying- and Water Pokémon, while Electric-type Pokémon are weak to Ground moves.

The Gym Leader can be found in the back room, beyond a set of electronic doors. Reaching him requires challengers to Vermilion Gym hidden randomly among the many trash cans. Once the first switch has been found, the second will be in an adjacent can. If the wrong can is inspected and there is no switch inside, the puzzle resets.

Celadon City lies to the west, but Saffron City stands in the way.  Cut down one of the trees here to reach the patch of tall grass, where a new Fire can be found.  No one is currently allowed through the gate, so enter the house to the north and take the Lavender-Celadon Underground that runs west underneath Saffron. Remember to use the List of key items in Generation I in the tunnel to search for lost valuables. The tunnel emerges on 7.
Lt. Surge leads with his Voltorb. Its Attack stat may be low, but Screech lowers the target's Defense so that it can deal an increased amount of damage. His Pikachu can Paralysis the target with Thunder Wave, so be sure to bring a Parlyz Heal or two. Raichu's high Special Attack lets it deal a good bit of damage with Thunderbolt. Use Ground moves like Dig for best results.

This tiny route leads straight into Celadon City in the west. The tall grass here is ideal for a Trainer to raise their Pokémon (which should be at least Lv 30 before challenging the Celadon Gym).  Now let's check out the big city.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
These pages follow the remade Game Boy Advance iteration, not Pokémon Red and Blue. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 6

Route 6

Route 6 consists of a road running south from Saffron City and passing the southern end of the Underground Path on its way to Vermilion City.

Vermilion City

Vermilion City

Vermilion City is a popular port city located between Route 6 and Route 11. Vermilion Harbor sees many ships coming and going, including the S.S. Anne, which has recently arrived for its yearly visit on its voyage around the world.

S.S. Anne, 2F
S.S. Anne, 3F

The S.S. Anne is a popular luxury cruise ship that sails all around the world and visits Vermilion City once a year. This will not be a relaxing time, however, as there are many Trainers on board.

1F

Turn to the right and take the stairs down to the lower floor.

B1F

This part of the ship is a dead-end hallway with five cabins. Visit the right-most room for a Super Potion and the middle room for an Ether. Pick up TM44 (Rest) in the fourth room from the stairs, then head back up to the main floor.

1F

Follow the hallway around to the front of the ship, and visit the second cabin from the left to get TM31 (Brick Break). Turn the corner and continue on to reach the kitchen. Grab the Great Ball in the corner and inspect the three trash cans for any forgotten items. Leave the kitchen and climb the nearest stairs to reach the upper floor.

2F

The nearest doorway leads to the deck of the ship, where two Sailors are looking to battle. Step inside the second cabin from the left to get a Stardust, then visit the fourth room to pick up an X Attack. When you approach the captain's quarters at the back of the ship, Blue is just leaving.

Despite his loss, he taunts you again as usual before walking away. Enter the captain's quarters to find him hunched over a trash can; it seems like he got seasick. Speak to him to help him out with a quick backrub and he will be feeling good as new. He gives you HM01 (Cut) to show his appreciation. This field move lets you chop down certain inconveniently-placed trees to reach new areas.

Be sure to collect all of the items on board before leaving, as the ship sets sail when you do. Use HM01 to teach Cut to a compatible Pokémon, then set out for the Vermilion Gym.

VERMILION CITY POKéMON GYM
LEADER: LT. SURGE

The Lightning American!

The Vermilion Gym specializes in Electric-type Pokémon. Electric-type moves are super effective against Flying- and Water-type Pokémon, while Electric-type Pokémon are weak to Ground-type moves.

The Gym Leader can be found in the back room, beyond a set of electronic doors. Reaching him requires challengers to flip two switches hidden randomly among the many trash cans. Once the first switch has been found, the second will be in an adjacent can. If the wrong can is inspected and there is no switch inside, the puzzle resets.

Lt. Surge leads with his Voltorb. Its Attack stat may be low, but Screech lowers the target's Defense so that it can deal an increased amount of damage. His Pikachu can paralyze the target with Thunder Wave, so be sure to bring a Parlyz Heal or two. Raichu's high Special Attack lets it deal a good bit of damage with Thunderbolt. Use Ground moves like Dig for best results.

Thunder Badge

After the battle, Lt. Surge awards you the Thunder Badge, which gives your Pokémon a slight Speed boost during battle and enables the use of Fly in the field. He also gives you TM34 (Shock Wave) as a prize.

The next destination is Route 11 to the east.
