Ice Path
Ice Path is a mid-sized cave that connects 44 directly to Blackthorn City. Navigation can be difficult, as some areas of the cave are covered by a layer of ice. It is also the only location where wild Swinub and Delibird can be found.

Mahogany Town is a quiet mountain town located at the intersection of Routes 42, 43, and 44. The area once concealed an underground complex that served as a ninja hideout. There is no official Poké Mart here, but a souvenir shop offers an assortment of items for sale. The seventh Gym can be found here.

The Pushy Salesman
There is a man on the east side of town that stops anyone from reaching 44. He states that as you are new in town, you should definitely try a RageCandyBar for the low price of pdollar300. The item is a local specialty, named for the nearby Lake of Rage.

The Shady Sightseer
A second man blocks the entrance to the Mahogany Gym as well. He asks if you have seen a man with a black cape who has been investigating strange radio waves near Mahogany Town and the Lake of Rage, and wonders aloud who he may be. The lake is located to the north, beyond 43.

Route 43
43 connects Mahogany Town to the Lake of Rage. The main road passes through a gate, while a grassy trail winds its way through the trees.

The Greedy Guards
Travelers who wish to take the easier path to the lake and stay on the main road are forced to pass through the gate. Team Rocket knows this, and has dispatched two Grunts here. Anyone who enters the gate is immediately confronted by the pair, and forced to pay pdollar1,000 as a toll.

Lake of Rage
The Lake of Rage, also known as Gyarados Lake, is the largest lake in Johto. According to a local Fishing Guru, the lake was created when rampaging Gyarados altered the landscape and the resulting crater eventually filled with rainwater. The lake has not been the same since the men dressed in black appeared, and there have even been sightings of a strangely-colored Gyarados. The area experiences frequent rainfall, which often leaves the western woods submerged.

1F (northwest)
Peace Disturbed
Pass over the first patch of ice and continue on to the second. This one is larger, and the large pieces of ice make travel more difficult.
Something has been disturbing the Pokémon living in the lake, and now the Gyarados are angry. One of them can be seen just offshore. Unlike others of its species, this individual seems to have evolved under mysterious circumstances that resulted in its unusual coloring. It will not calm itself, so it must be caught or defeated.

VS Gyarados
As a -type Pokémon, Gyarados is vulnerable to Electric- and Rock attacks. Using these moves first will wear it down quickly. Follow up with Fire-, Water-, Fighting-, Bug-, or Steel moves to further chip away at its health.

After that, go east to reach the next ice patch. This one is smaller, and there is an item, 07, lying on the far side of the ice. After that, cross over the platform to reach the northeast ladder.
When the battle ends, you find a Red Scale floating on the water. Climb back onto shore and speak to the man reading the sign. He has been investigating rumors that all of the Magikarp in the lake are being forced to evolve prematurely. He introduces himself as Lance, and asks for your help. He believes that a mysterious radio signal originating in Mahogany Town is the cause, and flies off on his Dragonite to find the source.

Mahogany Town
Just a Souvenir Shop
Upon entering the shady shop, you see Lance's Dragonite using Hyper Beam to attack one of the workers. Lance confirms that the strange radio signal is coming from this location, and pushes past the shopkeeper to reveal a hidden stairway leading underground.

Team Rocket HQ
The Team Rocket HQ is a large complex hidden beneath Mahogany Town. Formerly the base of operations for a ninja clan, Team Rocket has put the old traps to use to thwart anyone attempting to interfere with their plans.

There are four boulders scattered around this floor, and each one must be dropped through a different hole to form a path on the floor below. Go north and loop around to find the first two boulders.
When you step in front of the first Persian statue, you are forced to battle two Grunts in quick succession. It turns out that each Persian statue on this floor is equipped with a hidden security camera, and passing in front of one causes the same two Grunts to confront you.

Start off with the southernmost boulder. Use Strength to move it southward and drop it through the southwest hole. Go back and move the second boulder as far north as possible. Head to the east side to reach the third boulder, and drop it through the southeast hole. Go north and drop the fourth boulder through the north hole. Finally, move the second boulder to the northwest hole. Climb down the ladder in the northeast.
Continue west and take the first doorway to head south. Defeat Scientist Gregg in the interior room, then grab the Guard Spec. and examine the computer to disable the security cameras. Leave the room and head east to reach a Hyper Potion. Go south and follow the hallway westward to get a Nugget, then take the stairs in the southwest.

B2F (west)
B2F (South)
The boulders from the floor above have formed a convenient spiral that leads to the center of the room. Check the four corners for items, including a Max Potion, a hidden Carbos, and a hidden Ice Heal. Follow the boulders to the room's center, pick up the Full Heal, and climb down the ladder.
Lance is waiting for you here, and heals your Pokémon before continuing on. The nearby door to the Radio Transmitter features a voice-recognition system so that only approved people may enter. Continue eastward to fight another two Rocket Grunts. Take the stairs down to the lowest floor.

B3F
B3F (Southeast)
Rock Smash the rock, or loop around to the right, to reach the NeverMeltIce. Climb up the east ladder.
Lance informs you that reaching the boss requires the voice of a certain person, and identifies this person as Petrel, a Rocket Executive. It seems that the man is hiding out in their leader's office, which is protected with two passwords. Pick up the Full Heal near the east wall, then battle Scientist Ross and the female Rocket Grunt in the eastern room. Defeated, she gives up the first password: "SlowpokeTail". Move on to the southwest room to fight Scientist Mitch, then defeat another Rocket Grunt to learn the second password: "Raticate." Collect the X Special and Protein near the potted plants, then head north. Pick up 49 near the north wall, then climb the northeast stairs.

B2F (east)
B2F (North)
Go south, then head east across the platform. Stand two steps east of the platform, and slide south then east to reach 72. Turn around and slide west to reach the ladder.
Head all the way to the west, where you are challenged by another Rocket Grunt. Go down the stairs to reach the boss's room.

B1F (south)
B3F (Northwest)
Inspect the stalagmite on the south edge of the ice for a hidden Revive. Head northwest, and move the boulder one space southward. Slide west over the ice, then south to reach the Iron. Climb up the western ladder.
When you approach the Executive's room, Silver appears. He insists that he will be the one to eliminate Team Rocket, then runs off. Before opening the door, climb the southern stairs to a separate area of B2F.

1F (southeast)
B2F (West)
Grab the Protein on the platform and head south. Another of the Kimono Girls can be found to the south; it seems that she got stuck on the ice. Slide down, left, down, then right to reach her. After a quick shove to clear ground, she thanks you and leaves. Slide left, up, right, down, right, and down to reach the PP Up, then head south to reach the exit. Welcome to Blackthorn City!
Pick up the item, 46, then go back downstairs.

Blackthorn City
B3F (Northwest)
Collect the Ultra Ball to the east, then examine the door to enter the two passwords, and the door opens. The man inside identifies himself as Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket. He soon abandons his disguise after realizing that he does not sound the same, and reveals himself as Petrel, one of the group's Executives. Petrel assumes that you are headed to the Radio Transmitter, and reveals the password: "Hail Giovanni". It does little good however, as the door will not open unless the password is spoken with his voice.

The quiet mountain retreat known as Blackthorn City lies isolated in the northeast. The main attraction is the Blackthorn Gym, the final Gym in the region. North of the Gym is Dragon's Den, a training ground for Dragon specialists. On Saturdays, Santos of the Week Siblings can be found here.

Time for a Trade
The girl in the eastern house is looking to trade. She offers her Dodrio in exchange for a female Dragonair. The Dodrio arrives holding a Smoke Ball.

The Move Tutor House
Petrel explains that Giovanni disappeared after disbanding Team Rocket three years ago, but that the group has continued on since then, planning for his eventual return. He hurries off, and the Murkrow that was standing in the corner approaches you and recites the password, mimicking Petrel's voice. It soon wanders off, so hurry after it as it leads you back to the southern part of B2F.
There are four people in the southwest house, all of which provide valuable services regarding a Pokémon's moves.
* Move Deleter: He can help a Pokémon forget any move, even HM moves.
* Move Maniac: In exchange for a Heart Scale, he helps a Pokémon remember any move it had previously forgotten.
* Grandma Wilma: When shown a Dragon Pokémon that is happy with its Trainer, she will teach it the ultimate Dragon-type move, Draco Meteor.
* Ultimate Move Tutor: He teaches any fully-evolved starter Pokémon the ultimate move of its type; Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn, or Hydro Cannon.

When you approach the door to the Radio Transmitter, Murkrow screams the password as it mimicks Petrel's voice. The voice-recognition system is fooled, the door opens, and Murkrow wanders away. When you step inside, another Rocket Executive, Ariana, and a Rocket Grunt ambush you in an attempt to force a 2-on-1 battle, but their plan is short-lived. Lance and his Dragonite show up just in time, turning the fight into a 2-on-2 battle, instead.

The Blackthorn Gym uses mostly Water and Dragon Pokémon. Waters resist Ice and Fire attacks and are weak to Electric. Dragons take less damage from Grass, Fire, Water, and Electric moves, and are more vulnerable to Dragon- and Ice-type attacks. The floor has become unstable due to the lava bubbling underfoot, forcing your lead Pokémon to return to its Poké Ball. Reaching the Gym Leader requires crossing the lava on movable platforms. These platforms each have a blue tile, which causes it to rotate, and two arrow tiles, which move it in the respective direction.

Clair's Gyarados can lower its opponent's Attack with its Intimidate Ability. Both of her Dragonair can inflict paralysis with Thunder Wave, before executing strong moves like Dragon Pulse, Fire Blast, and Aqua Tail. 25 from the Goldenrod Department Store deals serious damage to Gyarados, while 14 from the Goldenrod Department Store or 72 from Ice Path can help against her two Dragonair. Her Kingdra's only weakness is Dragon-type attacks, and can beat its target down with the powerful Hydro Pump, Dragon Pulse, and Hyper Beam attacks. Unless your Pokémon happen to know a Dragon attack, you likely have to hammer it with strong, neutrally effective moves.

Clair refuses to accept defeat. She claims that you are still not ready for the Pokémon League, and directs you to take the "Dragon-master challenge". ==Route 45 (optional)==
The Gym is filled with slippery, ice-like tiles. When stepped on, the challenger is sent sliding until they reach a patch of normal flooring or some other obstacle. In the first room, slide northward to the ice block, then move west, north, east, and north again. In the second room, stand near Skier Diana and slide eastward to the ice block, then loop around from the same direction to continue northward. In the third room, battle Boarder Deandre, then slide eastward to the nearest ice block. Slide north and battle Skier Jill, then move east, south, and west. This leads to the large stalagmite in the southwest corner. slide north, east, north, east, and north again to battle Boarder Gerardo. Finally, move west then north to reach the Gym Leader.

45 is a rugged route leading down from the mountains. The ravine forces the path to split and recombine multiple times, and many small ledges prevent northbound travel. The east entrance to Dark Cave is located just outside of the city, and the route eventually reaches a small lake, where it turns west toward 46.
Pryce's Seel is vulnerable to Grass- and Electric moves. Despite being a Water Pokémon, it can still fight back against unsuspecting Grass Pokémon with Ice attacks. His Dewgong is much the same, but also takes serious damage from Rock- and Fighting moves. His Piloswine can use Blizzard, the strongest Ice attack, but its typing leaves it with the most weaknesses of Pryce's team, with five: Fighting-, Steel-, Fire-, Water-, and Grass-type moves.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
These pages follow the remade Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Gold and Silver. The guide for those games can be found here.

Mahogany Town

Mahogany Town

Mahogany Town is a quiet mountain town located at the intersection of Routes 42, 43, and 44. The area once concealed an underground complex that served as a ninja hideout. There is no official Poké Mart here, but a souvenir shop offers an assortment of items for sale. The seventh Gym can be found here.

The Pushy Salesman

There is a man on the east side of town that stops anyone from reaching Route 44. He states that as you are new in town, you should definitely try a RageCandyBar for the low price of $300.

The lake is located to the north, beyond Route 43.

Route 43

Route 43

Route 43 connects Mahogany Town to the Lake of Rage. The main road passes through a gate, while a grassy trail winds its way through the trees.

The Greedy Guards

Travelers who wish to take the easier path to the lake and stay on the main road are forced to pass through the gate. Team Rocket knows this, and has dispatched two Grunts here. Anyone who enters the gate is immediately confronted by the pair, and forced to pay $1,000 as a toll.

Lake of Rage

Lake of Rage

The Lake of Rage, also known as Gyarados Lake, is the largest lake in Johto. According to a local Fishing Guru, the lake was created when rampaging Gyarados altered the landscape and the resulting crater eventually filled with rainwater. The lake has not been the same since the men dressed in black appeared, and there have even been sightings of a strangely-colored Gyarados. The area experiences frequent rainfall, which often leaves the western woods submerged.

Peace Disturbed

Something has been disturbing the Pokémon living in the lake, and now the Gyarados are angry. One of them can be seen just offshore. Unlike others of its species, this individual seems to have evolved under mysterious circumstances that resulted in its unusual coloring. It will not calm itself, so it must be caught or defeated.

VS Gyarados

As a Water/Flying-type Pokémon, Gyarados is vulnerable to Electric- and Rock-type attacks. Using these moves first will wear it down quickly. Follow up with Fire-, Water-, Fighting-, Bug-, or Steel-type moves to further chip away at its health.

Team Rocket's Hideout, B2F
Team Rocket's Hideout, B3F

Team Rocket HQ

The Team Rocket HQ is a large complex hidden beneath Mahogany Town. Formerly the base of operations for a ninja clan, Team Rocket has put the old traps to use to thwart anyone attempting to interfere with their plans.

B1F

When you step in front of the first Persian statue, you are forced to battle two Grunts in quick succession. It turns out that each Persian statue on this floor is equipped with a hidden security camera, and passing in front of one causes the same two Grunts to confront you.

B2F (South)

Lance is waiting for you here, and heals your Pokémon before continuing on. The nearby door to the Radio Transmitter features a voice-recognition system so that only approved people may enter. Continue eastward to fight another two Rocket Grunts. Take the stairs down to the lowest floor.

B3F (Southeast)

Lance informs you that reaching the boss requires the voice of a certain person, and identifies this person as Petrel, a Rocket Executive. It seems that the man is hiding out in their leader's office, which is protected with two passwords. Pick up the Full Heal near the east wall, then battle Scientist Ross and the female Rocket Grunt in the eastern room. Defeated, she gives up the first password: "SlowpokeTail". Move on to the southwest room to fight Scientist Mitch, then defeat another Rocket Grunt to learn the second password: "RaticateTail." Collect the X Special and Protein near the potted plants, then head north. Pick up TM49 (Snatch) near the north wall, then climb the northeast stairs.

B2F (North)

Head all the way to the west, where you are challenged by another Rocket Grunt. Go down the stairs to reach the boss's room.

B3F (Northwest)

When you approach the Executive's room, Silver appears. He insists that he will be the one to eliminate Team Rocket, then runs off. Before opening the door, climb the southern stairs to a separate area of B2F.

B2F (West)

Pick up the item, TM46 (Thief), then go back downstairs.

VS Petrel

Petrel explains that Giovanni disappeared after disbanding Team Rocket three years ago, but that the group has continued on since then, planning for his eventual return. He hurries off, and the Murkrow that was standing in the corner approaches you and recites the password, mimicking Petrel's voice. It soon wanders off, so hurry after it as it leads you back to the southern part of B2F.

B2F (South)

When you approach the door to the Radio Transmitter, Murkrow screams the password as it mimicks Petrel's voice. The voice-recognition system is fooled, the door opens, and Murkrow wanders away. When you step inside, another Rocket Executive, Ariana, and a Rocket Grunt ambush you in an attempt to force a 2-on-1 battle, but their plan is short-lived. Lance and his Dragonite show up just in time, turning the fight into a 2-on-2 battle, instead.

Afterward, Ariana claims that their broadcasting experiment is a success, despite their defeat here. They are unconcerned what happens to their hideout, as they apparently have bigger plans. Team Rocket flees the building, and Lance inspects the generator. He cannot find a power switch, and determines that to shut it down, the six Electrode that power it must be removed. The two of you split the task, so catch or defeat the three on the left side to put an end to Team Rocket's plan.

With the machine disabled, the radio signal has finally stopped. The Lake of Rage can now return to normal, and Lance thanks you with an item that he found here: HM05 (Whirlpool). Follow him back upstairs, then step on the nearby warp tile for a shortcut to the entrance.

Mahogany Gym

Mahogany Gym
Mahogany Town Pokémon Gym
Leader: Pryce

The Teacher of Winter's Harshness

The Mahogany Gym specializes in Ice-type Pokémon. Ice-type moves are super effective against Dragon-, Flying-, Grass-, and Ground-type Pokémon, while Ice-type Pokémon are weak to Fighting-, Fire-, Rock-, and Steel-type moves.

Pryce's Seel is vulnerable to Grass- and Electric-type moves. Despite being a Water-type Pokémon, it can still fight back against unsuspecting Grass Pokémon with Ice attacks. His Dewgong is much the same, but also takes serious damage from Rock- and Fighting-type moves. His Piloswine can use Blizzard, the strongest Ice-type attack, but its Ice/Ground typing leaves it with the most weaknesses of Pryce's team, with five: Fighting-, Steel-, Fire-, Water-, and Grass-type moves.

Mahogany Gym
Glacier Badge

After the battle, Pryce awards you the Glacier Badge, which enables the use of Whirlpool in the field. He also gives you TM07 (Hail) as a prize.

Desperate Times

Upon leaving the Gym, you receive a call from Professor Elm. He informs you of strange radio broadcasts that mention Team Rocket. It seems that the group has one more card to play, so hurry back to Goldenrod City's Radio Tower to finally put a stop to their plans.
