The Full Battle between Ash and Professor Kukui continues. Lycanroc uses Counter to send the oncoming Rock Slide back at Braviary. Kukui commands Braviary to use Sky Drop, and Ash has Lycanroc use Bite. Lycanroc's attack lands, but it isn't enough to stop Braviary from lifting it high in the air. Braviary makes an 800 meter ascent before soaring back down at a breakneck pace, slamming Lycanroc onto the battlefield with immense force. Despite the heavy impact, Lycanroc manages to return to its feet and unleashes a Stone Edge. Braviary is commanded to use Steel Wing to slice through the boulders, which creates a huge dust cloud. Its vision obscured by all the dust, Lycanroc is unable to dodge Braviary's super-effective Superpower and takes massive damage. Lycanroc returns to its feet again, but the damage was too much this time, and it collapses. Hala rules Lycanroc out of the match, marking the first defeat of the battle.

Ash recalls Lycanroc and decides to turn this into and aerial battle by sending out Rowlet, still donning its Decidueye cloak. Rowlet is initially startled by its opponent, but Ash tells it to stay focused and use Razor Leaf. Braviary, however, neutralizes the attack with a Steel Wing, before going on to chase Rowlet. Rowlet stops him in his tracks by using Seed Bomb, and the Everstone strikes Braviary directly in the face. Braviary recovers and approaches with Steel Wing, and the clash turns into a game of tennis as Braviary deflects some of Rowlet’s Seed Bomb attacks, though it misses others and is struck by the Everstone projectile. Braviary eventually ends the face off and strikes Rowlet down with Steel Wing. Kukui orders him to follow up with Superpower, and Ash commands Rowlet to counter with Brave Bird. Rowlet dodges Superpower at the last second and nails Brave Bird, sending Braviary plummeting to the ground and knocking him out.

Kukui recalls Braviary and chooses Venusaur as his third Pokémon. Ash orders Rowlet to use Brave Bird, but to everyone's shock, Venusaur traps Rowlet inside his flower. With his opponent effectively immobilized, Venusaur charges up a powerful Solar Beam for a cataclysmic close-range attack. However, Ash remembers the strategy he conceived during his battle with Hau and Decidueye, and has Rowlet make a last-ditch escape with Feather Dance; it works perfectly and Rowlet emerges unscathed, surprising Kukui. But despite this successful maneuver, Rowlet's Brave Bird is stopped cold by Venusaur's Sludge Bomb, followed by a Vine Whip that takes Rowlet out of the match.

After Ash recalls Rowlet, he decides to go for the type advantage and sends Torracat back out. Torracat is reenergized and its bell is swelling with flames from absorbing Professor Kukui's earlier Blast Burn attack. Kukui commands Venusaur to use Vine Whip, and he ensnares Torracat with the vines. However, Ash has Torracat counter by biting the vines with Fire Fang, leaving Venusaur reeling from the burning. Torracat then unleashes a Fire Blast, and Kukui commands Venusaur to counter with Sludge Bomb, but it isn't enough to stop Fire Blast, and Venusaur is hit and subsequently defeated. Kukui recalls Venusaur, and Ash decides to switch Torracat out so it can face off against Incineroar later.

Kukui's fourth Pokémon is his Empoleon, and he reveals to Ash that it swims around the world to research sea currents. Ash takes the type advantage again by choosing Pikachu. He starts things off with an Electroweb, though Empoleon slices through the trap with Metal Claw. Pikachu leaps into action with an Iron Tail, clashing several times with Empoleon’s Metal Claw. Kukui breaks up the Steel move exchange and has Empoleon approach with Drill Peck, but Pikachu uses Electroweb to keep Empoleon at bay. Empoleon fires back with Whirlpool, trapping Pikachu in the water vortex. Pikachu survives the attack, but at the cost of being extremely dizzy. Knowing Pikachu is an easy target like this, Ash decides to substitute him for Melmetal. Kukui has Empoleon use Hydro Pump, but Melmetal spins rapidly to repel the attack, shocking Kukui and Empoleon. Ash commands Melmetal to use Flash Cannon, knocking Empoleon off balance. Empoleon uses Whirlpool again, but unlike Pikachu, Melmetal is way too heavy for it to do meaningful damage. Empoleon is desperate since its attacks aren't even fazing Melmetal, before it is defeated by a hefty Double Iron Bash.

Kukui recalls Empoleon, and is pumped by this spectacular battle. He sends Incineroar out to take on Melmetal. It starts off with Darkest Lariat, and Melmetal attempts to repel Incineroar with Flash Cannon, but it doesn't work and Melmetal takes the hit. Ash then has Melmetal go in for a Double Iron Bash, but Incineroar unexpectedly grabs a hold of Melmetal's fists. Melmetal rushes in to test its brute strength against Incineroar, with both sides not giving an inch. With Melmetal trapped in close-range, Kukui knows this is his chance and has Incineroar use a super-effective Blast Burn, engulfing Melmetal in flames and taking it out of the match.

Ash recalls Melmetal, and Kukui, anticipating the upcoming showdown between his Incineroar and Ash's Torracat, decides to switch to his fifth Pokémon, Lucario. The Alola Pokémon League’s exhibition match continues with a dizzying array of Pokémon! Braviary manages to defeat Ash’s Lycanroc, and then Rowlet takes down Braviary with a powerful Brave Bird attack. Professor Kukui then calls on Venusaur, who traps Rowlet in its flower! Thanks to Feather Dance, Rowlet escapes unscathed—but then falls to Venusaur’s Sludge Bomb attack. Next up is Torracat’s fiery return to defeat Venusaur, followed by Pikachu versus Empoleon. After a dizzying Whirlpool, Ash switches in Melmetal, who takes down Empoleon but can’t withstand Incineroar’s flames. Each Trainer has three Pokémon still standing as Professor Kukui sends out Lucario, Ash responds with Naganadel, and the battle continues!

Plot

Lycanroc returns to its feet again, but the damage is too much this time, and it collapses. Hala rules Lycanroc out of the match, marking the first defeat of the battle.

Ash recalls Lycanroc and decides to turn this into an aerial battle by sending out Rowlet, still donning its Decidueye cloak. Rowlet is initially startled by its opponent, but Ash tells it to stay focused and use Razor Leaf. Braviary, however, neutralizes the attack with a Steel Wing, before going on to chase Rowlet. Ash recalls Melmetal, and Kukui, anticipating the upcoming showdown between his Incineroar and Ash's Torracat, decides to switch to his fifth Pokémon, Lucario. Ash replies by pulling out a Beast Ball, surprising everyone, and sending out his sixth Pokémon, Naganadel. Wicke is impressed to see an Ultra Beast sent out onto the battlefield, and Lusamine remarks that they did the right thing by giving Naganadel to Ash. Naganadel is thrilled by the crowd of spectators and spins in excitement. Tapu Koko watches on in anticipation as the round begins with a clash of X-Scissor and Close Combat.
