Celebi (Japanese: セレビィ Celebi) is a dual-type legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. It serves as the guardian of Ilex Forest, and is only able to be caught from the wild in Crystal with an event activated by the GS Ball.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Celebi is the last Pokémon in the Johto Pokédex and Hoenn Pokédex, although in the latter, Celebi is not shown.
It serves as the guardian of Ilex Forest.

Biology
Celebi was officially revealed in the July 2000 issue of CoroCoro.
Physiology
Celebi is a green fairy-like creature. Celebi has round toe-less feet, three-fingered hands, and clear wings on its back. Celebi has a round head that comes to a point and sticks upward in the back. It has large baby-blue eyes, similar to that of Mew, with thick black rings around them, and a pair of green antennae that are tipped blue.

Gender differences
Celebi is the last Pokémon in the Johto Pokédex and Hoenn Pokédex in Generation III, although in the latter, Celebi is not shown.
Celebi is genderless, but a shiny one is referred to as female in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness.

Special abilities
Biology
Celebi's main ability is the power to travel through time. Celebi also can restore plants to perfect health (an ability that is also accredited to Meganium). Celebi mainly attacks with surprisingly powerful Grass and Psychic attacks. Celebi can also levitate.

Celebi is a green, fairy-like Pokémon. It has round toeless feet, three-fingered hands, and clear wings on its back. It has a round head that comes to a curved point. It has large baby-blue eyes with thick black rings around them, and a pair of green antennae with blue tips.

Behavior
Often found in List of Pokémon by habitat, Celebi is a Mythical Pokémon, known in legend as the "Voice of the Forest." It is able to travel through time and exist simultaneously throughout time, and plant life flourishes wherever it has been. As seen in Celebi: The Voice of the Forest, it is able to heal Celebi when it is dying and restore plants to perfect health. Celebi also has the ability to heal wounds, and can release a telekinetic energy wave to defend itself. It was shown in Pokémon Colosseum that Celebi has the power to instantly cause the Purification of any Shadow Pokémon and can be summoned at Relic Forest with the melody of a Time Flute.
Celebi, like Mew, is a very playful species in general. Celebi are extremely powerful despite their small size, another trait they have in common with Mew. Celebi also can be very timid, not wanting to show themselves despite their power. Although multiple Celebi have been seen at one time, it is unknown if they are different individuals or the same Celebi from different time periods. Therefore, it is virtually impossible to determine exactly how many Celebi exist. Celebi is also very protective of itself, its home, and the Pokémon living in it. For this reason, it has been referred to by some as a "Guardian of the Forest". Celebi has also been shown to have the power of bringing the dead back to life.

Habitat
Because Celebi travels through time, it may inhabit many places. However, Celebi is generally associated with forests. Because of this, it is known as the spirit and voice of the forest.

Diet
Pokémon food
Celebi feed on berries.

Major appearances
Celebi (movie 4)
Celebi first appeared in Celebi: Voice of the Forest. A Pokémon hunter was after it and Celebi traveled 40 years into future to escape from him, taking young Sam along with it accidentally. The Iron-Masked Marauder eventually captured the time traveling Pokémon in a Dark Ball and used it to destroy the forest. Ash and Sammy managed to snap Celebi out of the Iron Masked Marauder's control.

Celebi (movie 13)
Celebi appeared in a central role again in Zoroark: Master of Illusions. Grings Kodai was after the Pokémon in order to restore his ability to see the future, which he got on a previous encounter with it. It befriended Zorua and helped save Zoroark after she was mortally injured by Kodai.

Other
Celebi also made an appearance in Pokémon Chronicles. In Celebi and Joy, Celebi took Ritchie back in time to help stop the destruction of a Pokémon Center.

In The Green Guardian, the Pokémon Ranger Solana accompanied Ash and friends in helping the Pokémon.

Minor appearances
A Celebi appeared in the boss fantasy of A Lean Mean Team Rocket Machine.

Celebi makes a cameo appearance in the beginning of The Rise of Darkrai.

A Celebi appeared in another fantasy in An Egg Scramble!.

In the manga
In Pokémon Adventures, Pryce aimed to capture Celebi and use its time-traveling powers to save his two Lapras, which he had lost years ago prior to the start of the GSC saga. He failed numerous times throughout his reign (lacking a GS Ball that would allow him to properly capture it), and would injure himself on each day of the month in which Celebi would show itself in the Ilex shrine, so Green and Silver took this opportunity to steal his Rainbow Wing and Silver Wing items and escape.

Near the end of the RS Saga, Ruby is revealed to have a Celebi. He explains that due to the lack of information he had on it, he rarely uses Celebi at all. Celebi was used to retrieve the Red and Blue Orbs from Maxie and Archie, to prevent them from ever controlling Groudon and Kyogre again. Then, it revived Norman, Steven, and Courtney by sending them through an altered future. It left Ruby's side right afterwards, and upon waking up two days later and glancing into the now-empty Poké Ball that once contained the time-traveling Pokémon, Ruby realizes that this was the reason Celebi was with him the whole time.

Super Smash Bros. Melee
When a Poké Ball is thrown, there is a 1 in 251 chance of Celebi appearing after all these requirements have been fulfilled:
*Unlock all 25 characters
*Unlock all 29 stages
*Beat all 51 events
*Unlock the score display (by reaching 5000 KOs)

It does not affect the battle but the thrower of the Poké Ball will earn a bonus and trophy of Celebi.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
When a Poké Ball is thrown, there is a 1 in 493 chance of Celebi appearing. Like the other "secret" Pokémon, it drops collectible items; in Celebi's case, it drops trophies.

Despite living in forests as its guardian, Celebi only shows itself in areas and times of peace. It has been regarded that as long as Celebi are seen throughout the world, a prosperous and bright future is still in store for the Pokémon world. As depicted in A Timeless Encounter!, Celebi can sense if something is a temporal anomaly in the current timeline and will bring them back to their original timeline. Celebi has been referred to as a forest deity.

Celebi explains that Dark Matter once threatened to attack the Tree of Life which would have resulted in the planet's collision with the sun, but was stopped by the efforts of a human and a Pokémon. Celebi theorizes this same human was brought back to the present by the ancient Mew. Celebi also reveals that the Harmony Scarves worn by the player and partner were made using materials from the Tree of Life; their temporary evolutions were triggered as a result of the Tree's power. Later, Celebi helps assist many other Pokémon in stopping the ascent of the Tree of Life into the sun a second time. It, along with the Shiny Celebi from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, are recruitable after completion of the main story via the Connection Orb.

Celebi (recurring)
In A Timeless Encounter!, a Celebi was disturbed by the battle between Ash's Lycanroc and Torracat.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
When a Poké Ball is thrown, there is a 1 in 251 chance of Celebi appearing after all these requirements have been fulfilled:
* Unlock all 25 characters
* Unlock all 29 stages
* Beat all 51 events
* Unlock the score display (by reaching 5000 KOs)

It does not affect the battle, but the thrower of the Poké Ball will earn a bonus and trophy of Celebi.

Trophy information
"Celebi has the power to travel through time, and thus wanders from one age to the next. It is considered a deity by the forests: plants and trees are said to grow in unimaginable abundance wherever Celebi visits. Like Mew, Celebi is a Pokémon shrouded in mystery. Its special techniques blend grass and psychic powers."

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
When a Poké Ball is thrown, there is a 1 in 493 chance of Celebi appearing. Like the other "secret" Pokémon, it drops collectible items; in Celebi's case, it drops trophies.

Trophy information
"A Time Travel Pokémon. Celebi can travel throughout time and inhabit multiple places simultaneously. It is said that it appears only during times of peace, greeted by a flourishing of grass and trees. Two turns after Celebi uses its Future Sight move, the foe is bombarded with psychic energy. This proves to have a devastating impact on any Pokémon."

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Celebi appears as a trophy in the 3DS version only.
Trophy information
This Pokémon has the unique ability to travel through time to the past or future. However, the only times Celebi wants to visit are those of peace, so catching sight of Celebi in one of the beautiful forests it frequents is a good sign indeed. Perhaps it's mankind's responsibility to create the kind of time Celebi would want to visit.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Celebi appears as a Spirits (characters).

Origin
Origin
Celebi has a natural theme. Celebi might be related to nature worship of Shintoism. It may be based on a fairy, dryad, or the Kodama (spirit). Its fierce protectiveness for its forest home resembles that of of the Curupira. It may have been based on the Dr. Seuss story, The Lorax. The story is about a small creature, known as the Lorax, who spoke for the trees and tried to protect them as well as the environment from being destroyed by industrialization.
Celebi has a natural theme. Specifically, it might be related to the natural worship of Shintoism. It also may be based on a fairy, dryad, or Kodama (spirit), mixed with a plant bulb.

Celebi's beta designs, and to a lesser extent its final design, appear to draw inspiration from Kokopelli, a god of fertility and music from the cultures of some southwestern Native American peoples.

Name origin
Name origin
There are many theories as to the origin of Celebi's name. It may be a combination of celestial and being, or it may be a combination of the English serenity and the Japanese bii, which translates to beautiful. There is also the possibility its name originates from "cerebral", referring to its psychic powers; or "celery", referring to its Grass typing. It may have originated from from earth goddess Cybele. Çelebi is also a Kurdish tribe and a Turkish surname shared by some famous Ottoman scholars and poets.
Celebi may be a combination of 精霊 seirei (spirit), Ceres (mythology) (Roman goddess of fertility), celebrate or celestial, serenity, and 美 bi (beauty) or being.

Celebi (Japanese: セレビィ Celebi) is a dual-type Psychic/Grass Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

It serves as the guardian of Ilex Forest.

Celebi was officially revealed in the July 2000 issue of CoroCoro.[1]

Celebi is the last Pokémon in the Johto Pokédex and Hoenn Pokédex in Generation III, although in the latter, Celebi is not shown.

Biology

Celebi sensing a temporal anomaly (from Celebi's perspective)

Celebi is a green, fairy-like Pokémon. It has round toeless feet, three-fingered hands, and clear wings on its back. It has a round head that comes to a curved point. It has large baby-blue eyes with thick black rings around them, and a pair of green antennae with blue tips.

Often found in forests, Celebi is a Mythical Pokémon, known in legend as the "Voice of the Forest." It is able to travel through time and exist simultaneously throughout time, and plant life flourishes wherever it has been.

Spoiler warning: this article may contain major plot or ending details.
201
 • Pokémon Ranger: Celebi is in a Ranger Net mission. In the mission, the player must capture the Celebi to save it from the Go-Rock Squad. It is found wandering in Lyra Forest.
 • Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness: A Shiny Celebi is a supporting protagonist in the main storyline. When the player and partner are sent to the future by Dusknoir, the player, partner, and Grovyle work together to get back to the past. Celebi was the Pokémon who sent Grovyle and the player to the past before, and the trio receive her help to go back again.
 • Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs: Celebi is the first boss of the game and a main Pokémon in the storyline. It has the power to time travel and can send the player (without the Ukulele Pichu) into the past. It can also send specific Pokémon to the present if the player uses the correct Ranger Signs.
 • Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon: A regular Celebi appears with Ampharos and Jirachi of the Expedition Society to transport the player and partner out of harm's way before Nuzleaf and Beheeyem get a second chance to petrify the player and partner after their return from the Voidlands.

Celebi made its debut in The Last Battle IX. The Masked Man aimed to catch it and use its time-traveling powers to reunite one of his Pokémon with its deceased parents. Although the Masked Man managed to catch Celebi, the GS Ball holding it was destroyed by Gold, freeing it from the villain's control.

In It All Ends Now VIII, Celebi was revealed to have chosen Ruby as its new Trainer before he moved from Johto to Hoenn, though Ruby had no idea of how rare of a Pokémon it was. Remaining unseen for almost the entire Ruby & Sapphire arc, it appeared at the end of the arc to destroy the Red and Blue Orbs and revive Steven, Norman, and Courtney, who had died during the conflict involving Groudon and Kyogre, before returning to the wild.

In the HeartGold & SoulSilver arc, Celebi agreed to cure Giovanni of his long-time illness in exchange for him helping to prevent the destruction of the Sinjoh Ruins.

Celebi trophy in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

Ultimate

Celebi appears as a Spirit.

Trivia

Origin

Celebi has a natural theme.[6] Specifically, it might be related to the natural worship of Shintoism. It also may be based on a fairy, dryad, or kodama, mixed with a plant bulb.

Celebi's beta designs, and to a lesser extent its final design, appear to draw inspiration from Kokopelli, a god of fertility and music from the cultures of some southwestern Native American peoples.

Name origin

Celebi may be a combination of 精霊 seirei (spirit), Ceres (Roman goddess of fertility), celebrate or celestial, serenity, and 美 bi (beauty) or being.
