Refrigerate (Japanese: フリーズスキン Freeze Skin) is an Ability introduced in Generation VI. From Generation VIII onward, it is the signature Ability of Amaura and Aurorus.
Effect
In battle
Generation VI
Refrigerate causes all Normal-type moves used by the Pokémon to become Ice-type and receive a 30% power boost. It overrides Ion Deluge and Electrify.
Generation VII
Affected moves now receive a 20% power boost.
Generation VIII
This Ability effect may be in need of research. Reason: What happens if Gigantamax Lapras with Refrigerate tries to use Max Strike? You can discuss this on the talk page. |
If Max Strike is selected with Refrigerate, it'll turn into Max Hailstorm when used.
Affected moves
The table below lists the moves affected by Refrigerate, as well as the Pokémon that can have Refrigerate and learn those moves.
|
Although the following moves are affected by the Ability, they currently cannot be learned by any Pokémon with Refrigerate. They may, however, be called via Metronome, Mirror Move, Copycat, or Mimic, or be used by a Pokémon that gained Refrigerate by an Ability like Trace or Receiver or a move such as Skill Swap or Role Play.
Outside of battle
Refrigerate has no effect outside of battle.

|
In other games
This Ability effect may be in need of research. Reason: Is the power of affected moves boosted in Pokémon Rumble World? You can discuss this on the talk page. |
Pokémon Rumble World
In Pokémon Rumble World, Mega Glalie has the Refrigerate ability, changing the type of Normal-type moves to Ice.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
Normal-type moves become Ice type and deal 20-25% more damage. When Nature Power is used, although the Ability activates, the move chosen by Nature Power does not become Ice-type and there is no boost in power.
