Lumiose City (Japanese: ミアレシティ Miare City) is a large city nestled in the north-central part of the Kalos region. Standing in the center of the city is the Prism Tower, which serves as its symbol. The wide roadways are paved with brick and cobblestone, allowing both automobile and Gogoat traffic safe and easy travel. Lumiose City is the largest known city in the Pokémon world.
Lumiose City (Japanese: ミアレシティ Miare City) is a large city nestled in the north-central part of the Kalos region. It is a prominent central hub of the region and is the second most populous city in the Pokémon world.

Places of interest
It is the setting for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Prism Tower
Lumiose Gym
Prism Tower is a large tower located in Centrico Plaza in the middle of Lumiose City. It houses the Lumiose City Gym. Prism Tower is based on the real-world Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It can be fought on in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.

North Boulevard
Tourism is a major industry of the city due to its famous landmarks, such as the Prism Tower, which serves as the city's symbol, and the Lumiose Museum. A wide variety of shops, cafés, and restaurants are spread throughout the entire city and are popular with both tourists and locals alike.
Galette Stand
A small stand located on the North Boulevard outside Autumnal Avenue that sells Status ailment healing items for pdollar100 (pdollar80 if the player has at least 50 points of style). The stand only sells freshly baked galettes, which last four hours at a time starting at 3 AM, 9 AM, 3 PM, and 9 PM. Once per day, if the player purchases a galette within an hour of the time they were baked, the player will also receive a free Drink.

Lumiose Museum
The outer portion of the city is lined by tall office buildings and wide brick and cobblestone boulevards, while the avenues of the inner portion are lined by smaller Parisian-style buildings. The wide roadways throughout the city afford safe and easy passage for both automobile and Gogoat traffic. A large canal also runs diagonally through the city.
Lumiose Museum
A large, white building that houses many paintings of people and locations in the Pokémon world. Entrance is free, but an audio guide is available for pdollar200 (or for free if the player has at least 90 points of style).

Hotel Richissime
Lumiose City has five gates connecting it to outside routes. In the southeast is the 4 Gate, in the southwest the 5 Gate, in the northwest the 13 Gate, in the north the 14 Gate, and in the northeast the 16 Gate. It is connected to Kiloude City via train from North Boulevard.
Hotel Richissime
A large, black luxury hotel located near the middle of North Boulevard. Each day, the player can be paid for completing certain tasks in the hotel.

Battle Institute
Slogan
Battle Institute
The City of Light (Japanese: 光の都 The city of light.)
The Battle Institute on the North Boulevard works in the same way as the one in Nimbasa City in Unova. The player can opt for a Battle Test (five consecutive single or double battles) or a Download Test (which can be downloaded either wirelessly or via Wi-Fi at certain time, similar to event Pokémon). The player can win BP here.

Lumiose Station
Layout
A very large train station located on the far eastern half of the North Boulevard. Upon defeating the Elite Four and becoming the Champion, Professor Sycamore will meet the player here and give them the List of key items in Generation VI which allows them to board the train to Kiloude City.
Many small shops and cafés line the many streets and avenues of Lumiose City.

Looker Bureau
The city is shaped like a spoked wheel. The outside "wheel" is split into North and South Boulevards, while the spokes are divided among several avenues and plazas. The boulevards and avenues are lined with the city's many establishments, while the plazas are primarily open gathering spaces, with an occasional establishment or two on the outskirts. The center hub is a wide, open area with Prism Tower at its center.
Looker's headquarters during the post-game storyline are located in a narrow street between North Boulevard and Rouge Plaza. It is initially empty, but Looker settles in after the player enters the Hall of Fame and upgrades the Mega Ring.

After completing all the Looker Bureau chapters, the player can battle Emma in the Expansion Suit (as Essentia) here on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

South Boulevard
South Boulevard
This is the first part of Lumiose City that the player can explore in Pokémon X and Y, along with Vernal Avenue. The other parts are blocked until the player has defeated Team Flare at the Kalos Power Plant and watched Clemont relight the Lumiose City Gym.
South Boulevard

PR Video Studio
South Boulevard is the southern half of the outer rim of the Lumiose City. The two boulevards are divided by the river that runs through the middle of the city. Locations on South Boulevard include the PR Video Studio, Professor Sycamore's Pokémon research lab, and Coiffure Clips.
Trainer PR Video
A purple building where Trainer PR Videos can be created, located directly across from the South Boulevard Pokémon Center. PR Videos filmed here can be shared with passers-by and people who have been given the player's Nintendo 3DS Friend Code.

When the player reaches sufficient stylishness, the woman at the right counter will add new video effects for PR Videos. She will add two different sets: one if the player has at least 25 points of style, and the other for at least 90 points of style.

Sycamore Pokémon Lab
Professor Sycamore's Pokémon research lab is located directly opposite Vernal Avenue. It is here where the player can receive either Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle upon defeating Professor Sycamore in a Pokémon battle early in the game, as well as their corresponding Mega Stone. After the player enters the Hall of Fame, they can return to the lab to get the Poké Radar from one of the scientists on the second floor.

On the second floor, player can change Rotom's Form differences.

Coiffure Clips
A small hairdresser located opposite the 5 Gate. The player can have their hair colored and styled here.

The prices and options are slightly different for male and female players. If a female player requests a styling, she may choose to have the stylist style only her front hair.or all of her hair (including her front hair, as a secondary option).
*Styling and color: PDollar3000 (female, front style only: PDollar2500)
*Styling: PDollar1500 (female, front only: PDollar500)
*Color: PDollar2000

For both male and female players, the options for colors are the same. In order from lightest to darkest, they are: Blondmale/Blondefemale, Orange, Honey, Brown, and Black.
South Boulevard and Vernal Avenue are the first parts of Lumiose City that the player can explore in Pokémon X and Y; the other parts are blocked until the player has defeated Team Flare at the Kalos Power Plant and watched Clemont relight the Lumiose Gym.

The styling options differ significantly for male and female players. If the player has at least 50 points of style, additional styling options will be available.
South Boulevard is laid out as follows, moving along the street in a clockwise direction:
*Male: Very Short, Short, Medium. Additional: Medium Perm
{| class="wikitable"
*Female: Short, Bobbed, Medium, Long. Additional: Ponytail, Pigtails
! Outer !! Inner
*Female (front): Sideswept, Bangs

At any point, instead of choosing a specific color or style themselves, the player may leave the decision to the stylist by selecting the "Surprise me" option. If this option is chosen, the stylist will pick a random style or color different from the player's current one.

Autumnal Avenue
Poké Ball Boutique
A specialty shop that specializes in different kinds of Poké Balls. It is notably the only location in any Pokémon game where Poké Balls are sold individually.

Juice Shoppe
Juice Shoppe
A specialty shop that sells juices made from Berries. Available from the man on the left are pre-made juices whose selection list changes each day. They can have various effects on the Pokémon drinking the juice, ranging from increasing Effort Values or level. If the Pokémon already has maximum value on the particular stat, the juice will increase its friendship instead. By looking at the price of the juice, the player may determine intensity of the effects. For example, a Purple Juice priced at Pdollar1,500 will increase HP EVs of the Pokémon by 15, or a Rare Soda priced at Pdollar20,000 will increase level of the Pokémon by two.

From the lady on the right, custom-blend juices are made for free by mixing two chosen Berries from the player's bag. Different Berry fields berries yield different results. When two berries of the same color are mixed together, they will become a <Color> Juice that increases a stat by 4-32 EVs. The intensity of the effects can be determined by the berries used, and which group(s) the berries belong to.

There are three Berry Groups, each consisting of several same or different colored Berries that have similar properties to one another. The simplest way to find out a Berry's grouping is by mixing two of the same Berry together. If a Berry mixed with itself results in a 4, 8 or 12 EV increase, the Berry will belong to either Group 1, Group 2 or Group 3 respectively.

For example, when two Leppa Berries are mixed together, they will produce a Red Juice that will increase the drinker's Attack Stat by 4 EVs. Likewise, when two Maranga Berries are mixed together, they will produce a Blue Juice that will increase the drinker's Speed by 12 EVs. Thus a Leppa Berry is a Group 1 Berry and a Maranga Berry is a Group 3 Berry.

When Berries from the same color, but different groups are mixed, the intensities are more widely varied. A Group 1 Berry mixed with a Group 2 Berry will result in a 16 EV increase, but a Group 1 and Group 3 Berry mix only results in a 12 EV increase.

Note that each type of juice can be bought/made only once a day. Saving before speaking with the man to the left, and then soft-resetting will change the list of juices he sells. Juices cannot be kept, so they must be given to a Pokémon in the player's party right away. If the player mixes Berries at the right counter, but decides against giving it to a Pokémon, the female clerk will drink the juice instead, thanking the player for the drink. Both variants of Rare Soda will result in the drinker's level increasing; however, all moves learned or evolution via level up will not be invoked.
Estival Avenue
Loto-ID Center
Pokémon Lottery Corner
A building where the player may participate in a lottery drawing every day. Prizes are granted depending on how many digits from a randomly generated ID number match those of any Pokémon in the player's possession.
Lumiose Press
The building where Alexa works. Alexa will recommend various locations around the city for the player to visit, and offer to take them there.
Vernal Avenue
Friseur Furfrou
A shop that specializes in Furfrou grooming. The player may buy a trim for a Furfrou in their party for PDollar500. Trims last for five days or until the Furfrou is deposited in the PC. The shop initially only offers Star, Diamond, or Heart Trims (as well as the option to return it to a natural look), but as the player gains style, more trims become available. At 10 points of style, the La Reine, Kabuki, and Pharaoh Trims become available, while the Debutante, Matron, and Dandy Trims are available at 50 points of style.
Herboriste
A specialty shop that sells herbal medicines.
Stone Emporium
A specialty shop that sells evolutionary stones. A man in the store will offer to sell the player the remaining Mega Stones for the two Kanto starter Pokémon they did not receive from Professor Sycamore. The price of these Mega Stones begins at pdollar1,000,000 but will decrease as the player becomes more stylish, eventually being available for only pdollar10,000. After defeating the Elite Four, the owner will first offer the Mega Stone for the Kanto starter that is super-effective to the one chosen by the player.
Boutique Couture
A designer fashion and luxury boutique. The first floor sells only women's clothing, whereas the second floor sells only men's clothing. The player is only granted access to the boutique once they have at least 25 points of style. The clothes and accessories sold here have much higher prices than those sold at other boutiques across Kalos.

Restaurants
Lumiose City restaurants
Lumiose City has four restaurants located on South Boulevard (Restaurant Le Nah), Autumnal Avenue (Restaurant Le Yeah), Hibernal Avenue (Restaurant Le Wow), and near Rogue Plaza (Sushi High Roller). At each restaurant, the player can pay to be served a meal where the server will battle the player before each course. After finishing a meal, the player will receive a reward: a number of some valuable item, depending on which restaurant the player is in and how well they did.
Lysandre Café
A red café located near Magenta Plaza. It grants the player access to Lysandre Labs, one of Team Flare's hideouts in the Kalos region. Despite the small size, it serves as an important location in both the main plot line and the after story sideline plot with Xerosic.
Lumi Cab
Lumi Cab is a taxi service with stops located all around Lumiose City, enabling the player to easily travel directly to many locations in the sprawling city. The base fare is PDollar710, but it increases the further away from the destination the taxi starts. All of the destinations are internally assigned to a section of the city, and those destinations in the same section share the same cost, with those in the same section as the taxi starts in costing the cheapest.
Once the player reaches a certain level of stylishness, the driver will start giving a 50% discount on the fare. If the player does not have enough money to pay for the ride, the driver will challenge them to a battle.
The possible destinations are shown below, with the section the destination belongs to noted after the location. Destinations on the Boulevards are split between East and West destinations in addition to North and South, while more internal destinations (mostly on Avenues) are only differentiated by North or South.

Avenues
All of the avenues and plazas are connected by a continuous ring near the hub, but occasionally there will also be an alleyway connecting two of the spokes farther out from the hub. A group of randomly battleable Trainers also lurk around this inner part of the city.
The city's spokes are laid out in the order given below, moving through them in a clockwise direction starting from the first spoke connected to South Boulevard. The left and right sides referred to below presume the player is facing away from Centrico Plaza.

The table below describes the exact cost to reach a destination in a given section when taking a given taxi.
Plazas
{| class="roundy" style="margin:auto; border: 3px solid #blue color dark; background: #blue color" cellpadding="3px"
Lumiose City has six different plazas: Centrico Plaza is a large plaza located at the very center of the city, while the other five smaller plazas are arranged as the points of a pentagon centered on Centrico Plaza. The plazas are connected as a pentagon by small alleys that cut across the avenues. The alley between Verte Plaza and Jaune Plaza includes a bridge over the southeast end of the river; Magenta Plaza itself is built on a bridge over the northwest end of the river.

Each of the small plazas is named after a color in French. All of the small plazas contain an obelisk of the same color as the name of that plaza.

The smaller plazas are laid out in the order given below, moving through them in a clockwise direction starting from southeast plaza.

Vert Plaza
Vert Plaza is a small plaza located southeast of Centrico Plaza. Café Cyclone is located on the alley leading from South Boulevard to Vert Plaza.

Bleu Plaza
Bleu Plaza is a small plaza located southwest of Centrico Plaza.

Magenta Plaza
Magenta Plaza is a small plaza located north-west of Centrico Plaza. It is built on top of a bridge over the river. The Magenta Pokémon Center (the landing point when flying to the center of Lumiose City) is located on the street leading from Magenta Plaza to Centrico Plaza. Lysandre Café is located on the alley between Magenta Plaza and Autumnal Avenue, which itself contains Lysandre Labs.

Rouge Plaza
Rouge Plaza is a small plaza located north of Centrico Plaza. The North Boulevard (initially just a vacant storefront) and Lumiose City restaurants are located on the alley between Rouge Plaza and North Boulevard.

Jaune Plaza
Jaune Plaza is a small plaza located northeast of Centrico Plaza. Trevor's house is located on the alley between Jaune Plaza to North Boulevard.

Centrico Plaza
Centrico Plaza is located in the center of Lumiose City. The Prism Tower, which hosts the Lumiose Gym, is at the center of the plaza. There is a Photo Spot at Prism Tower, between the connection to Vernal Avenue and the alley to Vert Plaza.

Gates
Lumiose City has five gates connecting it to outside routes.

4 Gate, in the southwest the 5 Gate, in the northwest the 13 Gate, in the north the 14 Gate, and in the northeast the 16 Gate.

Gogoat Shuttle
Gogoat Shuttle
Signposts located all around the Boulevards, where the player can ride a Gogoat that will take them to South Boulevard East or South Boulevard West if the player is riding at South Boulevard; or North Boulevard East or North Boulevard West if the player is riding at North Boulevard. The fare is flat at Pdollar200.

Gogoat Shuttle is a service where the player can travel between many stops around Lumiose City for a flat fee of Pdollar200. The service allows people to ride a Gogoat around North Boulevard or South Boulevard. The Gogoat Shuttle stops are marked by black signs with blue screens located on the outer side of the boulevards; the player can initiate the service by interacting with the Gogoat Shuttle stop signs.

Style
When the player boards the service, they are asked whether they want to travel east or west along their current boulevard; however, if they are already at the eastmost or westmost stop in that boulevard, they are only given the option to travel to the opposite end. The Gogoat Shuttle cannot cross between boulevards. The Gogoat Shuttle stops at each shuttle stop along its path, giving the rider the option to dismount at each one, until it reaches the final stop at the far end of the boulevard, when the rider is forced to dismount. The Gogoat moves automatically between stops, without the rider being able to control it. The name of each stop is announced by the Audio Guide in the Gogoat Shuttle stop signs.
Within Lumiose City, the player has a degree of style which can be raised by doing things around the city. If the player has a high style, prices may be lower, more items and services may be offered, and certain establishments may be accessible that were not before.

Increasing style
The following is the list of Gogoat Shuttle stops in each boulevard, listed from east to west (i.e. the order the stops will be presented in when choosing to travel west).
When the player first speaks to Alexa in the Lumiose Press building on Estival Avenue, they will gain 5 points of style.

In addition to the above benefits, some NPCs will change their dialogue as the player's style increases, and several new NPCs will appear in various places (mostly cafés) around the city as well. At 25 points of style, more people will appear in Café Pokémon-Amie (on Autumnal Avenue), Café Action! (on North Boulevard), Café Introversion (on South Boulevard), and Cafés Classe and Woof (on Vernal Avenue). At 50 points of style, more people will appear in Café Bataille (on North Boulevard), Shutterbug Café (on South Boulevard), and Boutique Couture (on Vernal Avenue). Finally, at 90 points of style, more people will appear in Café Gallant (on Estival Avenue) and, on North Boulevard, in the westernmost building, Café Triste, and Lumiose Station.

The following is a list of places of interest excludes places of interest located on boulevards or avenues, as those are detailed on the pages for those streets instead.

Prism Tower
Lumiose Gym
Prism Tower is a large tower located in Centrico Plaza in the middle of Lumiose City. It houses the Lumiose City Gym. Prism Tower is based on the real-world Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It is also a playable stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Restaurants
Lumiose City restaurants
Lumiose City has four restaurants located throughout the city: Restaurant Le Nah (South Boulevard), Restaurant Le Yeah (Autumnal Avenue), Restaurant Le Wow (Hibernal Avenue), and Sushi High Roller (near Rogue Plaza). At each restaurant, the player can pay to be served a meal where each server will battle the player before each course. Battles are conducted in special formats—Double Battle, Triple Battles, or Rotation Battles—with the player's pool of options depending on the restaurant.

Pokémon the Series: XY
Ash arrived at an airport in Lumiose City with Alexa in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin! as his first destination in the Kalos region. Ash wanted to challenge the Gym there, but was denied access by Clembot for not having enough Badges. He then fell several feet, where he was saved by Clemont and Bonnie. This is also where Ash had his first Kalos battle, using Pikachu against Clemont's Bunnelby. However, the battle was interrupted by TRT, who was trying to snatch Pikachu. The group was saved by a wild Froakie, who was injured in the process, and taken to Professor Sycamore's lab. Following the events of Professor Sycamore's Garchomp going out of control, in Lumiose City Pursuit!, Ash and ashfr left Lumiose City in A Battle of Aerial Mobility!. Serena first arrived at Lumiose City at the end of the episode, where she chose Serena as her first partner Pokémon at Professor Sycamore's lab in the next episode.

Ash arrived in Lumiose City with Alexa in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin! as his first destination of the Kalos region. Ash wanted to challenge the Gym there, but he was denied access due to not having enough Kalos badges by the Clembot. He fell several feet, then he was saved by Clemont and Bonnie. This is also where Ash had his first Kalos battle using Pikachu against Clemont's Bunnelby until the battle was interrupted by TRT trying to capture Pikachu. They were nearly successful until the group was saved by a Froakie, who was injured in the process, needing immediate treatment. Bonnie suggested taking Froakie to Professor Sycamore's lab.
Ash and his friends along with Serena arrived again at Lumiose City in Grooming Furfrou!, where they went to a grooming salon owned by Sherman. In Clemont's Got a Secret!, the group went to the Lumiose Gym for Clemont to get the ownership of the Gym back from Clembot. Finally, in Mega-Mega Meowth Madness!, the group went back to Professor Sycamore's lab, where Clemont was given a Clemont, after which they left the city again.

In The Future Is Now, Thanks to Determination!, Clemont returned to Lumiose City on his own via helicopter to train for his upcoming Gym battle with Ash.

Ash, Serena, and Bonnie reunited with Clemont in Confronting the Darkness! for Ash's Gym battle against Clemont. However, the match was interrupted by Officer Jenny who arrested Clembot for the crimes committed by Dark Clembot and Belmondo, who were eventually found outside Lumiose Museum. Lumiose University, an electronics store, a high-end boutique, and a 3 star hotel were also featured in this episode. In The Moment of Lumiose Truth!, Ash eventually had his Gym battle against Clemont and his Bunnelby, Clemont, and Clemont, and won with his Ash, Ash, and Ash. This victory earned Ash the Voltage, his fifth Kalos League Badge overall. Following the Gym battle, the group took a visit to Professor Sycamore again in Garchomp's Mega Bond!, after which they left the city.

As revealed in Seeing the Forest for the Trees!, Lumiose City would be the site of the Kalos League. The Lumiose Conference began in A League of His Own! and ended in Down to the Fiery Finish!, with Alain as the victor. As the closing ceremonies were underway, Team Flare, having secretly taken over the Prism Tower, took control of Z2 and forced it to transform into its 50% Forme. After doing so, it attacked the city with massive roots, causing serious damage to it, Prism Tower, and the stadium where the Lumiose Conference was taking place.

Lumiose City was put under siege by Team Flare, using the roots created by Zygarde, from A Towering Takeover! to Forming a More Perfect Union!. In Battling with a Clean Slate! and The First Day of the Rest of Your Life!, after the Team Flare crisis ended, Lumiose City began a process of rebuilding. In Till We Compete Again!, Ash and the gang returned to Lumiose City to bid farewell to Alain, Mairin, and Professor Sycamore before Ash and Serena left the Kalos region for Pallet Town and Hoenn, respectively. After both Ash and Serena departed through the Lumiose airport, Clemont and Bonnie returned to Prism Tower.

In XYS06, Cilan visited Lumiose City for a fishing tournament, where he met Clemont and Bonnie, asking the former to take him to Prism Tower. On the way, the trio also explored the Lumiose Subway system. After getting to see the tower, Cilan departed to go see the Tower of Mastery in Shalour City.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series
Lumiose City appeared briefly in A Festival Reunion! as Ash and Goh flew over it on their way to Shalour City.

In The Future is Now, Thanks to Strategy!, Ash and Goh traveled to Lumiose City for Ash next World Coronation Series battle against Elite Four member Drasna. In order to prepare him for it, they visited Clemont and Bonnie at the Lumiose Gym, where Ash's Sirfetch'd and Dracovish ended up learning Meteor Assault and Dragon Rush, respectively. The battle between Ash and Drasna took place the next day at the Lumiose Conference stadium. The tough battle eventually ended in Ash's victory, increasing his tournament ranking.

Lumiose City made a brief cameo in a fantasy during Team Rocket's motto in A Squad's Worth of Passion!.

In The Beauty Eternal, many citizens in many areas of Lumiose City were going about their daily lives after the release of the Holo Caster. Café Soleil was also shown, with Lysandre discussing with Diantha about the concept of eternal beauty.

In The Investigation, Looker confronted and chased down Essentia through Lumiose City, before eventually cornering her in Lysandre Café and revealing her as Emma.

In The Redemption, a parade was held in Lumiose City to celebrate the new Kalos League Champion, Calem. During the parade, AZ appeared and challenged Calem to battle. He lost, but was still relieved of having freed from the part of him that had built the ultimate weapon 3000 years earlier. Hearing this, his long-lost Floette returned to him, causing him to break into tears.

Pokémon Adventures
X & Y
Lumiose City first appeared in They Have a Flare for a Li'l Kanga-Napping and Kangaskhan...Kangascan't, where Professor Sycamore showed Lysandre the footage of Xerneas and Yveltal's battle in Vaniville Town, sent to him by Trevor.
The city reappared in What Does Charmander Do When It Dozes, where X, Y, Tierno, Trevor, Shauna arrived in the city. Following Trevor's suggestion, the group decided to visit Professor Sycamore, delivering his lost Charmander, which they had found on 4, back to him in the process. Seeing X's negative mood, Sycamore decided to cheer him up by challenging him to a battle. After the battle, Sycamore gave Charmander to X, and was also surprised to find out that X had come to accept the Chespin he had sent to him.
Meanwhile, Trevor had his broken Holo Caster fixed by Lysandre, although he felt himself extremely nervous around the man's presence, having recognized his figure from one of the pictures taken during Vaniville Town's destruction. Lysandre later sent his Pokémon to surround the children, but they were saved by the arrival of Diantha.
The group later visited the Prism Tower in order to ask Professor Sycamore about something they forgot before, not aware that the interview Professor Sycamore had gone to have at the tower was already over. Once there, the group found Alexa being attacked by the Lumiose Press editor-in-chief, who, having allied with Team Flare, was trying to silence Alexa to keep her from spilling out the truth about the destruction of Vaniville Town. X battled and defeated the editor-in-chief, allowing the group to escape the city. An Electrike from the tower became interested in X during the battle and subsequently started following him as the group left Lumiose City.
The group returned to Lumiose City in Xerneas Gives. Much to their shock, the people of Lumiose City seemed to be completely unaware of the recent events involving Team Flare and treated them like scum in spite of their role in stopping the villainous team. Despite this, they stopped AZ's seeming attempt to use the ultimate weapon again, leading to the weapon's key getting destroyed. AZ then revealed that he was merely testing them to see if they'd choose the same path as Team Flare. Having felt a change in AZ's heart, his long-lost Floette then returned to him. Professor Sycamore suggested a parade for the group to celebrate them saving the Kalos region, but they declined the offer. Three months later, Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor had all moved to Lumiose City, with Shauna becoming a Furfrou stylist, Tierno teaching the Lumiose Gang Member how to dance, and Trevor taking over Sina and Dexio's role as Sycamore's Professor, while the duo headed to the Alola region to study the sightings of Zygarde made there.
In Magearna Moves, Essentia seemed to resurface in Lumiose City by attacking the Lumiose Museum. As surveillance camera footage showed the culprit with the category Magearna, they were initially assumed to be working together, but Trevor soon realized that Magearna was innocent. The Mythical Pokémon also helped him to defeat the culprit and expose them as a robot constructed by Xerosic that had reactivated on its own after being abandoned.

* A woman beside Café Bataille explains that the two Skiddo in front of Lumiose Station were abandoned by their Trainer, and wait by the station for his return. This is a possible reference to the story of Hachikō, an Akita dog who waited at the train station every day for his owner's return, even after his unexpected death. The story is a popular legend in Japanese culture.

* At the Magenta Plaza Pokémon Center, a young man mentions Team Plasma "making news a Black and White in the Unova region," while a young woman mentions Professor Oak's Blue having visited Kalos to study abroad. She also tells how he used to say "Bonjour" while meeting and "Smell ya later!" while leaving. The first quote refers to the way how Blue greets the player while visiting S.S. Anne in the original Red and Blue Yellow and FireRed and LeafGreen, while the latter one was used whenever he left the player's presence.

* The five plazas are named after French words corresponding to their color: Rouge (red), Bleu (blue), Vert (green), Magenta (magenta), and Jaune (yellow).
* The architecture style of Lumiose City is very similar to its real counterpart. Paris itself consists mostly of buildings dating back up to several centuries and the outskirts (also called the Parisian suburbs) were recently urbanized, dating back to the 1960s.
* Similarly to Paris, Lumiose City has roads connecting to all parts of Kalos. The only difference is that Paris' connections to all parts of France are used by List of railway stations in Paris.
** The layout of the city is also extremely similar to the area of Paris surrounding the Arc de Triomphe.
* On the second floor of the Fighting Dojo, a Hex Maniac will appear, say "No, you're not the one," and float away. The purpose of this in-game event, if there is one, is not known yet.
** In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the player can talk to a Hex Maniac on the first floor of Mt. Pyre's interior who says the exact same words. The relation between these two events is unknown.
* Behind the second TMV timetable in Lumiose Station, some words are written saying "I'm going to go for help. Wait in the usual place."
* The shape and colors of the plazas closely resemble the logo of the Battle Frontier in Generation IV.

* The Mega Stones for the Kanto starter Pokémon sold at the Stone Emporium are the most expensive purchasable items in the Pokémon games, costing PDollar1,000,000 originally. Some items have been listed for the same price in previous games, but they have not been purchasable since that price was specifically chosen in those instances to be PDollar1 more than the player could hold.
* In Jaune Plaza, there are two girls who are mimicking the sounds of Pokémon. In the Japanese version, one girl is mimicking the sound of Heatran while the other is complimenting her. However, this is mistranslated in the English version to imply that a Lava Dome Pokémon appears in Jaune Plaza.

At the time of release of X and Y, many players reported being unable to move after loading a save within Lumiose City. According to Nintendo.com, if the player saves the game in certain areas of Lumiose City, then ends the game, the controls will not respond when the saved game is reloaded. They provided a map indicating known areas where the glitch can occur, which includes the entire outer boulevards. On October 25, 2013, Nintendo released a patch for this glitch via the Nintendo eShop.

Fire Blast camera clipping glitch
When a Pokémon with a large hitbox (such as Rayquaza) uses Fire Blast in a battle in one of the back alleys of Lumiose City, when the camera pans backwards, it will clip through the building to the right side of the Pokémon, causing it to completely disappear momentarily.
Origin
Pokémon world in relation to the real world#Kalos
Lumiose City is based on Paris, the capital and largest city of France. Its radial layout with Centrico Plaza in the center is similar to the real-life Place Charles de Gaulle, in which the Arc de Triomphe stands in its center. However, the building in Centrico Plaza, Prism Tower, is based on the Eiffel Tower instead.

Origin
The architecture style of Lumiose City is very similar to its real counterpart; Paris itself consists mostly of buildings dating back up to several centuries and the outskirts (also called the Parisian suburbs) were recently urbanized, dating back to the 1960s. Also, like Paris, Lumiose City has roads connecting to all parts of Kalos. The only difference is that Paris' connections to all parts of France are used by List of railway stations in Paris.
Lumiose City and Prism Tower are Pokémon world in relation to the real world Paris and the Eiffel Tower respectively.

Map of Lumiose City in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Lumiose City (Japanese: ミアレシティ Miare City) is a large city nestled in the north-central part of the Kalos region. It is a prominent central hub of the region and is the second most populous city in the Pokémon world.

It is the setting for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.[1]

Tourism is a major industry of the city due to its famous landmarks, such as the Prism Tower, which serves as the city's symbol, and the Lumiose Museum. A wide variety of shops, cafés, and restaurants are spread throughout the entire city and are popular with both tourists and locals alike.

Lumiose City has five gates connecting it to outside routes. In the southeast is the Route 4 Gate, in the southwest the Route 5 Gate, in the northwest the Route 13 Gate, in the north the Route 14 Gate, and in the northeast the Route 16 Gate. It is connected to Kiloude City via train from Lumiose Station.

Slogan

The City of Light (Japanese: 光の都(ひかりの みやこ) The city of light.)

Layout

Many small shops and cafés line the many streets and avenues of Lumiose City.

Plazas

The Looker Bureau (initially just a vacant storefront) and Sushi High Roller are located on the alley between Rouge Plaza and North Boulevard.

Route 4 Gate, in the southwest the Route 5 Gate, in the northwest the Route 13 Gate, in the north the Route 14 Gate, and in the northeast the Route 16 Gate.

Transportation

Lumi Cab

Main article: Lumi Cab

Lumi Cab is a taxi service that lets the player travel between many stops around Lumiose City for a fee; destinations that are farther away cost more. If the player has enough style, the fare will be half price. If the player does not have enough money to pay for the ride, the driver will challenge them to a battle.

Gogoat Shuttle

Artwork of Calem riding the Gogoat Shuttle

Gogoat Shuttle is a service where the player can travel between many stops around Lumiose City for a flat fee of $200. The service allows people to ride a Gogoat around North Boulevard or South Boulevard. The Gogoat Shuttle stops are marked by black signs with blue screens located on the outer side of the boulevards; the player can initiate the service by interacting with the Gogoat Shuttle stop signs.

The following is the list of Gogoat Shuttle stops in each boulevard, listed from east to west (i.e. the order the stops will be presented in when choosing to travel west).

Places of interest

Lumiose City from above

The following is a list of places of interest excludes places of interest located on boulevards or avenues, as those are detailed on the pages for those streets instead.

Prism Tower

Main article: Lumiose Gym

Prism Tower is a large tower located in Centrico Plaza in the middle of Lumiose City. It houses the Lumiose City Gym. Prism Tower is based on the real-world Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It is also a playable stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Restaurants

Main article: Lumiose City restaurants

Lumiose City has four restaurants located throughout the city: Restaurant Le Nah (South Boulevard), Restaurant Le Yeah (Autumnal Avenue), Restaurant Le Wow (Hibernal Avenue), and Sushi High Roller (near Rogue Plaza). At each restaurant, the player can pay to be served a meal where each server will battle the player before each course. Battles are conducted in special formats—Double Battle, Triple Battles, or Rotation Battles—with the player's pool of options depending on the restaurant.

Style

Main article: Style (Lumiose City)

Within Lumiose City, the player has a degree of style which can be raised by doing things around the city. The value of style ranges from 0 to 255. If the player has a high style, prices may be lower, more items and services may be offered, and certain establishments may be accessible that were not before.

Lumiose City in the anime

Ash arrived at an airport in Lumiose City with Alexa in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin! as his first destination in the Kalos region. Ash wanted to challenge the Gym there, but was denied access by Clembot for not having enough Badges. He then fell several feet, where he was saved by Clemont and Bonnie. This is also where Ash had his first Kalos battle, using Pikachu against Clemont's Bunnelby. However, the battle was interrupted by Team Rocket, who was trying to snatch Pikachu. The group was saved by a wild Froakie, who was injured in the process, and taken to Professor Sycamore's lab. Following the events of Professor Sycamore's Garchomp going out of control, in Lumiose City Pursuit!, Ash and his friends left Lumiose City in A Battle of Aerial Mobility!. Serena first arrived at Lumiose City at the end of the episode, where she chose Fennekin as her first partner Pokémon at Professor Sycamore's lab in the next episode.

Finally, in Mega-Mega Meowth Madness!, the group went back to Professor Sycamore's lab, where Clemont was given a Chespin, after which they left the city again.

In The Moment of Lumiose Truth!, Ash eventually had his Gym battle against Clemont and his Bunnelby, Heliolisk, and Luxray, and won with his Pikachu, Hawlucha, and Goodra. This victory earned Ash the Voltage Badge, his fifth Kalos League Badge overall.

Pokémon Generations

Lumiose City in Pokémon Generations

X & Y arc

Lumiose City first appeared in They Have a Flare for a Li'l Kanga-Napping and Kangaskhan...Kangascan't, where Professor Sycamore showed Lysandre the footage of Xerneas and Yveltal's battle in Vaniville Town, sent to him by Trevor.

The city reappared in What Does Charmander Do When It Dozes, where X, Y, Tierno, Trevor, Shauna arrived in the city. Following Trevor's suggestion, the group decided to visit Professor Sycamore, delivering his lost Charmander, which they had found on Route 4, back to him in the process.

Three months later, Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor had all moved to Lumiose City, with Shauna becoming a Furfrou stylist, Tierno teaching the Lumiose Gang how to dance, and Trevor taking over Sina and Dexio's role as Sycamore's assistant, while the duo headed to the Alola region to study the sightings of Zygarde made there.

In Magearna Moves, Essentia seemed to resurface in Lumiose City by attacking the Lumiose Museum. As surveillance camera footage showed the culprit with the Artificial Pokémon Magearna, they were initially assumed to be working together, but Trevor soon realized that Magearna was innocent. The Mythical Pokémon also helped him to defeat the culprit and expose them as a robot constructed by Xerosic that had reactivated on its own after being abandoned.

Trivia

 • If the player enters Lumiose City and gets on their bicycle, the music does not change.
 • At the Magenta Plaza Pokémon Center, a young man mentions Team Plasma "making news a while back in the Unova region," while a young woman mentions Professor Oak's grandson having visited Kalos to study abroad. She also tells how he used to say "Bonjour" while meeting and "Smell ya later!" while leaving. The first quote refers to the way how Blue greets the player while visiting S.S. Anne in the original Generation I games and their remakes, while the latter one was used whenever he left the player's presence.
 • On the second floor of the Fighting Dojo's building, a Hex Maniac will appear, say "No, you're not the one," and float away.[2]
 • The shape and colors of the plazas closely resemble the logo of the Battle Frontier in Generation IV.
 • Lumiose City is tied with Hammerlocke for having the most Pokémon Centers in a single city, with three.
 • In Jaune Plaza, there are two girls who are mimicking the sounds of Pokémon. In the Japanese version, one girl is mimicking the sound of Heatran while the other is complimenting her. However, this is mistranslated in the English version to imply that a Lava Dome Pokémon appears in Jaune Plaza.

Glitches

Lumiose City save glitch

Map of Lumiose City by Nintendo indicating areas unsafe to load saves in
Main article: Lumiose City save glitch

At the time of release of Pokémon X and Y, many players reported being unable to move after loading a save within Lumiose City.

Origin

Main article: Pokémon world in relation to the real world → Kalos

Lumiose City is based on Paris, the capital and largest city of France.[3] Its radial layout with Centrico Plaza in the center is similar to the real-life Place Charles de Gaulle, in which the Arc de Triomphe stands in its center. However, the building in Centrico Plaza, Prism Tower, is based on the Eiffel Tower instead.

The only difference is that Paris' connections to all parts of France are used by railroads.
