Biology
Biology
Zamazenta resembles a magenta wolf with yellow eyes, with a bulkier frame than Zacian's and a ponytail on its head. Its forelimbs, tail, and ponytail are all a deep blue. Its body is covered in battle scars and part of its right ear is missing (which is healed when it enters its Crowned Shield form). Its head and neck have thick fur resembling a shield.

In its Hero of Many Battles form, Zamazenta is a large magenta lupine Pokémon with yellow eyes, a bulky frame, and a ponytail on its head. Its tail and ponytail are a deep blue; it also has deep blue accents on its neck and forelimbs. Its body is covered in battle scars and part of its right ear is missing. Its head and neck have thick fur resembling a shield.

It is believed to be the younger sibling or the rival of Zacian. In the past, Zamazenta was feared and respected by the people of Galar. 3000 years ago, It worked together with two young humans to save the region from Eternatus and the Darkest Day it created, defeating the Gigantic Pokémon and forcing it back into slumber, which also caused pieces of its body imbued with its power to rain down throughout Galar in the form of Wishing Pieces and Wishing Stars. It can also turn itself into a statue and slumber for eons alongside Zacian in the Slumbering Weald. Zamazenta can also cast illusions, including a projection of itself, even while it slumbers. Additionally, it is capable of flying. Even though it is not capable of Dynamaxing, Zamazenta may still go berserk when bombarded by Galar particles. As years passed, both Zamazenta and Zacian were forgotten by history, however, Professor Sonia proved their existence by writing her first book: "Galar: A History", which details the discovery she and the player had in Stow-on-Side.

The Crowned Shield form causes Zamazenta to generate a set of golden armor covering the front of its body like a shield; while the side portion normally covers its forelimbs, it can slide forward to allow Zamazenta to use Behemoth Bash or protect itself from frontal attacks more effectively. Its ponytail also grows to cover most of its backside.
Zamazenta is also the only known Pokémon that can have Dauntless Shield as an Ability.
left clear

By absorbing metal particles, Zamazenta can change to its other form in battle. In legends, it is known as the Fighting Master's Shield due to its ability to defect any attacks. Zamazenta is both feared and respected by all. By becoming a statue, it can rest for eons; even while asleep, it can cast illusions including a projection of itself. Zamazenta is capable of flying. It is variously believed to be the younger sibling or the rival of Zacian. When together with Zacian, it cancels out the power of Eternatus, even in the powerful Eternamax form.
Forms
Zamazenta has two forms: Hero of Many Battles and Crowned Shield.

Zamazenta's regal and majestic movements enable it to overwhelm opponents who face off against it. Zamazenta fends off the attacks of foes by using the golden shield that covers its front. The shield's strength is so formidable that even the sharp claws of Dragon Pokémon cannot leave a single scratch upon it. No battlefield, no matter how terrible, can make Zamazenta flinch in its resolve. It charges at enemies head-on with the impregnable shield-like armor that serves as a weapon. By bashing the enemies with its full might, it is said that the power can cause cracks in the land and that the resulting shockwaves can lay waste to hundreds of enemies.  By using its signature move, it can go through towering mountains.
Zamazenta can change to its Crowned Shield form in battle by wielding the Rusted Shield, absorbing metal particles in the air, and using them to form a golden armor over its body and transforming its ancient weapon into a large, golden shield.

Zamazenta is the only known Pokémon capable of using Behemoth Bash.
The Crowned Shield form causes Zamazenta to generate a set of golden armor covering the front of its body like a shield; although the side portions normally cover its forelimbs, they can slide forward to allow Zamazenta to use Behemoth Bash or protect itself from frontal attacks more effectively. Its ponytail also grows to cover most of its backside.

In the anime
Crowned Shield is said to be Zamazenta's true form, and it is at its full power in this form. It has the ability to deflect any attacks with the shield that serves as its mane. When together with Zacian in their Crowned forms, it can negate the mysterious power of Eternamax Eternatus, which prevents opposing Pokémon from attacking it.

Major appearances
<!--====Zamazenta (recurring)====-->
Zamazenta made its debut in JN042 in its Hero of Many Battles form. Goh encountered Zamazenta in the Slumbering Weald before it disappeared.

Minor appearances
Zamazenta's regal and majestic movements enable it to overwhelm opponents who face off against it. Zamazenta uses its golden shield to fend off attacks and as a weapon. The shield has tremendous strength, capable of withstanding scratches from the sharp claws of Dragon Pokémon and attacks from Dynamax Pokémon. Its resolve does not falter, and it charges at its enemies head on. By bashing with its full might, it is said that Zamazenta's power can cause cracks in the land, and that the resulting shockwaves can knock out hundreds of enemies. According to legends, in this form, it was known as the "Fighting Master's Shield" due to its Typing and weapon.

In the manga
Crowned Shield Zamazenta is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Behemoth Bash. By using Behemoth Bash, it is said to be able to bore holes through mountains.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Zamazenta debuted in PASS05. Sōdo and Shirudomiria encountered Zamazenta and Zacian in the Slumbering Weald, though their attempt to fight off the two Pokémon revealed they were merely illusions.

Zamazenta's shield's ability to resist any attack, with Zacian's sword being able to cut through anything, could be an example of an irresistible force paradox. One of the most famous examples of this in folklore include the Chinese tale of a peddler selling a sword and a spear with similar properties, only to be asked what would happen if the two items were to be used against one another. Another example tells of the Greek hunting hound Laelaps (mythology), which always caught its prey, being set upon Teumessian fox, which could never be caught, and had to be turned into constellations to prevent the paradox.

Zamazenta (Japanese: ザマゼンタ Zamazenta) is a Fighting-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII.

While it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon, Zamazenta has a second form activated by giving it a Rusted Shield to hold. Its original form, Hero of Many Battles, will then become the dual-type Fighting/Steel Crowned Shield.

Zamazenta is the game mascot of Pokémon Shield, appearing on its boxart in its Crowned Shield form. It is a member of the legendary heroes with Zacian.

It is associated with Eternatus, playing a role in stopping the Darkest Day.

Biology

Zamazenta's dormant state (left)

In its Hero of Many Battles form, Zamazenta is a large magenta lupine Pokémon with yellow eyes, a bulky frame, and a ponytail on its head. Its tail and ponytail are a deep blue; it also has deep blue accents on its neck and forelimbs. Its body is covered in battle scars and part of its right ear is missing. Its head and neck have thick fur resembling a shield.

Zamazenta's shield transforms so it can use Behemoth Bash

Zamazenta is also the only known Pokémon that can have Dauntless Shield as an Ability.

Forms

Zamazenta has two forms: Hero of Many Battles and Crowned Shield.

Zamazenta can change to its Crowned Shield form in battle by wielding the Rusted Shield, absorbing metal particles in the air, and using them to form a golden armor over its body and transforming its ancient weapon into a large, golden shield.

Zamazenta's regal and majestic movements enable it to overwhelm opponents who face off against it. Zamazenta uses its golden shield to fend off attacks and as a weapon. The shield has tremendous strength, capable of withstanding scratches from the sharp claws of Dragon-type Pokémon and attacks from Dynamax Pokémon.

Crowned Shield Zamazenta is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Behemoth Bash. By using Behemoth Bash, it is said to be able to bore holes through mountains.[1]

Form data

Zamazenta has two forms, Hero of Many Battles and Crowned Shield, which change its appearance, stats, type, and cry. Zamazenta will always be in its Hero of Many Battles form outside of battle. In battle, Zamazenta will be in its Crowned Shield form if it holds a Rusted Shield. In this form, Zamazenta gains Steel as a secondary type and has increased Defense and Special Defense, at the expense of slightly decreased Speed. Additionally, if Zamazenta knows Iron Head, the move will be replaced with Behemoth Bash.

Trivia

  • Zamazenta shares the same category name with its partner Zacian. They are both known as the Warrior Pokémon.
  • Zamazenta, Zacian, and Eternatus are the only Pokémon that cannot Dynamax.
    • Pokémon transformed into Zacian, Zamazenta, or Eternatus will also be unable to Dynamax, such as Ditto or Mew.
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta has the highest base Defense and Special Defense stats of all Fighting-type Pokémon.
  • Crowned Shield Zamazenta is the heaviest Fighting-type Pokémon.

Origin

Zamazenta may be based on King Arthur's shield, known as Wynebgwrthucher or Pridwen. It may also be based on the Knights of the Round Table, characters under Arthur's order said to work with him to protect the British kingdom. Its relationship with Zacian may reference the relationship between King Arthur and his sister Morgan le Fay. It otherwise resembles a wolf, an animal once native to Great Britain and an important heraldic symbol for noble families during the Middle Ages. It also resembles the Iron Wolf of ancient Lithuanian mythology. The armored plating on Zamazenta is similar to that of a barding, a form of body armor worn by warhorses during the Late Middle Ages.

The story of Zacian and Zamazenta retreating to the Slumbering Weald to recover from their wounds, and their return in the present day to save Galar, parallels the legend of King Arthur's messianic return.

Zamazenta's shield's ability to resist any attack, with Zacian's sword being able to cut through anything, could be an example of an irresistible force paradox. One of the most famous examples of this in folklore includes the Chinese tale of a peddler selling a spear and a shield with similar properties, only to be asked what would happen if the two items were to be used against one another. Another example tells of the Greek hunting hound Laelaps, which always caught its prey, being set upon Teumessian fox, which could never be caught, and had to be turned into constellations to prevent the paradox.

Additionally, the shape of its shining shield while using Behemoth Bash may reference Sköll, a wolf that chases after the Sun in Norse mythology.
