The Pokémon Swap Meet (Japanese: ポケモンこうかんかい Pokémon Swap Meet) is an event featured in Tricks of the Trade.
Ash and his friends were visiting Palmpona at the time of the annual event, which was a part of a broader week-long festival that includes the "Running of the Tauros", a Tauros-only battle competition. It allows Pokémon Trainers to meet and trade Pokémon they may no longer want. Hopefuls groom their Pokémon and set up makeshift stalls in the hope of attracting interest. Great communication, bartering skills, and a sales pitch are required to entice another Trainer to trade their Pokémon. All trades are officially processed using a trade machine with a referee to watch out for any deception.
The group tried to find a trade partner for Benny, though his Wobbuffet proved a hard sell. He eventually traded his Wobbuffet to Jessie, who was accidentally knocked down and traded away her Lickitung in the process.
Running of the Tauros
The Running of the Tauros is an event that is part of the same festival as the Pokémon Swap Meet. Tauros are sent running through the streets of Palmpona, ending at the battle stadium. Anyone may enter this stage, with the aim being to be the first to touch a Tauros horn to win a trophy. The dangerous challenge, however, often leads to injury.
