Carracosta (Japanese: アバゴーラ Abagoura) is a dual-type Water/Rock fossil Pokémon introduced in Generation V.
It evolves from Tirtouga starting at level 37, after it is revived from a Cover Fossil.

Physiology
Carracosta resembles a bipedal, blue-colored sea turtle of some sort. Black, rocky structures encrust its face, back, and the sides of its chest, forming prongs on the "mask" and back, and somewhat pocket-like forms on the chest. Its flippers are long, with black fingers or fingerlike structures at the tips. Carracosta has rounded thighs, short legs, and two short black toes on each foot.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Carracosta has extremely strong jaws. It also has the power to open a hole in the bottom of a tanker with a slap.

Trivia
- Carracosta and its pre-evolved form are the only fossil Pokémon to have Rock as their secondary type.
Origin
Carracosta appears to draw inspiration from Archelon, the largest known species of sea turtle from the Late Cretaceous period. The fact it eats steel beams draws from the fact sea turtles are able to bend metal bars with their jaws.
Name origin
Carracosta is likely a portmanteau of the words carapace (a hard, protective covering, ie. a shell), and costa, meaning coast in Latin, Spanish and Portuguese, a reference to its habitat. "Carra" may refer to the Carrara fossil formation, which contains numerous trilobite fossils, but it probably comes from the turkish word for black, meaning black coast. There is a possibility that the whole name comes from the Greek name Costas and the Turkish "Carra" I mentioned earlier, which is used for last names such as Carrayannis,Carramanolis or, of course, Carracostas, and it would make sense because Greece is famous for its Caretta-Caretta tortoise, also known as Loggerhead sea turtle who is threatened by extinction, making it logical to make this a prehistorical Pokemon that has extincted and only its carcass can be found.
Abagoura is most likely from 暴れる abareru, to trash/act violently and 甲羅 kōra, shell.
