Generation I
Horn Drill inflicts damage equal to the target's current HP. Horn Drill will break a substitute if it hits. If it misses, it can be countered for infinite damage.
Generation II
In Pokémon Stadium 2, Horn Drill cannot be countered for infinite damage if it misses. Horn Drill's accuracy is displayed as —.
Generations III to VI
Horn Drill can no longer be countered for infinite damage if it misses.
Horn Drill can be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining an extra two appeal points if the move Horn Attack was used in the prior turn. It is also part of a Contest Spectacular combination and will give an extra three appeal points if any of the moves Lock-On, Mind Reader and Miracle Eye was used in the prior turn.

Trivia
- Despite the implied need for a horn or horn-like apparatus to use this move, at least two Pokémon that don't have a horn but gain one upon evolution (Nidorina and Ponyta) can learn Horn Drill.
