Primal Clash is the name given to the fifth main expansion of the XY Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. In Japan, it was released as the Gaia Volcano and Tidal Storm dual expansions that make up the fifth expansion block in the Pokémon Card Game XY Era. It is based on Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, featuring Generation VI Pokémon and Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon. The English expansion was released on February 4, 2015, while the Japanese expansions were released on December 13, 2014.
Primal Clash introduced Ancient Traits, special effects which gave Pokémon certain advantages in battle. Ancient Trait cards featured the artwork taking three-quarter of the card, with the remaining one-quarter colored with the Pokémon's type. A bar displaying the Ancient Trait and its effect were located on the top part of the artwork.
Starting from this expansion, M Pokémon-EX were printed as both Regular card and Full Art card.
