A Marquis (Japanese: マーキス Marquis) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that debuted in Generation VI. This Trainer class is a title of nobility, granted in the Battle Chateau, and Trainers with this class only appear there. Marquis is the fourth rank of nobility for males, ranking above Earl and below Duke. Its counterpart for females is Marchioness.

The male player character may earn the title of Marquis by winning enough battles in the Battle Chateau. The male Gym Leaders of Kalos also hold the rank of Marquis in the Battle Chateau. All opponent Marquises use parties of two Pokémon, and all who are not Gym Leaders have Pokémon at level 40 (if no Writ of Challenge is active), while Gym Leaders' Pokémon have higher levels.

Appearance

Marquises include a Rich Boy, a Monsieur, a Butler, and all of the male Gym Leaders of Kalos.
