Octillery (Japanese: オクタン Okutank) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Remoraid starting at level 25.

Biology

Physiology

Octillery are red cephalopod Pokémon with turret-like mouths, yellow bumps on their rock-hard heads, and yellow suction cups on each tentacle. They possess eight tentacles, two of which are used for manipulating objects while the other six don't appear to be used as much aside from a stabilizing role.

Gender differences

Female Octillery have smaller suction cups on their tentacles. The yellow bumps on their head are also smaller.

Special abilities

Octillery is much more powerful than its pre-evolved form, Remoraid, but it happens to be much slower. Octillery's tentacles boast stronger gripping power. It also is capable of using various moves, such as Sludge Bomb, Flamethrower, Energy Ball, Flash Cannon, and Giga Impact.

Octillery is the only known Pokémon that learns Octazooka by leveling up.

Behavior

Octillery are relaxed Pokémon who love fuss from their trainers. Wild Octillery will spurt ink at predators to protect their young from danger. Even though caught Octillery are more docile, wild Octillery can be very stubborn at times. Octillery instinctively sneak into rocky holes, and if it gets sleepy, it steals the nest of a fellow Octillery. It sometimes sprays ink on prey by sticking out only its mouth, and its suction cups hold prey tightly.

Habitat

Both Octillery and Remoraid are normally found in oceans. However, they are occasionally found in freshwater lakes.

Trivia

  • Octillery is the only non-Template:Type2 Pokémon, aside from Wormadam's Sandy Cloak form, to learn Rock Blast. It is also the only non-Poison Pokémon to learn Gunk Shot by leveling up.
  • Octillery is capable of learning 15 different-typed moves, discounting Hidden Power. The only type moves it cannot learn are Dragon and Ghost.
  • Remoraid and Octillery are the only non-legendary, non-Template:Type2 Pokémon to learn Ice Beam naturally that do not gain Ice as a secondary type through evolution.
  • Octillery is the only Pokémon so far to have an attack specifically named after it. In Japanese, "Octazooka" is known as "Okutank Cannon"
  • Although it is said in many Pokédex entries to have a rock hard head, it cannot learn Headbutt or Iron Head, and does not have the ability Rock Head.
  • Octillery is the only Pokémon in Generation II whose name starts with the letter O.
    • From all Pokémon, whose name start with the letter O, Octillery is also the only post-Generation I Pokémon with name starting with the letter O. The others are Omanyte, Omastar, Oddish and Onix, all from Generation I.

Origin

This Pokémon is based on an octopus. It also has some basis on a tank or a wheeled cannon.

Name origin

Octillery's name is a combination of octopus and artillery, referring to its many attacks with the "Beam" or similar suffixes. This is similar for Okutank, but with tank instead of artillery.

In other languages

  • German: Octillery
  • French: Octillery
  • Korean: 대포무노 Daepomuno
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 章魚桶 Zhāng Yú Tǒng - 桶 refers to containers made of wood, metal, plastic, etc., (such as barrel, tub, pail, drum, etc.). May mean "Octopus tank".
