Victini (Japanese: ビクティニ Victini) is a dual-type Psychic/Fire legendary Pokémon.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Victini is a small, rodent-like Pokémon. Its large, pointed ears are shaped like the letter V, possibly in reference to its name or the generation it was introduced in. Victini's eyes are large for the size of its head, and are blue. Its round head is comparatively large for its small body, and cream-colored, while the tops of its ears, crest, and extremities are all orange. Its bulbous arms and legs are rounded to make a sort of "cuff" before ending with small, three-fingered hands and two-toed feet. Victini's two winglike tails grant it the ability to fly.

Gender differences

Victini are a genderless species.

Special abilities

Victini are said to bring victory to the Trainer that owns it. It produces infinite energy within itself and shares it with others by touching them. Victini are also able to become invisible when desired. It is known to send visions to people, as shown in White—Victini and Zekrom and Black—Victini and Reshiram.

Victini is the only Pokémon that can learn the move Searing Shot.

Behavior

Victini has a very caring nature; while usually a very timid Pokémon, it will fight with force if its friends are under any threat.

Habitat

Victini resides on a small island, known as Liberty Garden. It dwells inside the basement of the island's lighthouse, where it was in a deep slumber for many years.

Diet

Victini and the macarons
Main article: Pokémon food

In White—Victini and Zekrom and Black—Victini and Reshiram, Victini is shown to enjoy eating macarons, although it sometimes chokes on them. In the same movie, it is also shown near an Oran Berry bush.

Following the Victini from the films, the Pokémon Movie special home in the Pokémon Dream World is featured in a game involving opening a treasure box full of macarons with the help of either Reshiram or Zekrom. Victini gets powered up in the game upon hitting a macaron.

In the present it was targeted by Damon in his plan to fly the Sword of the Vale back to the Kingdom of the Vale and resurrect his peoples' glory.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga

Victini was seen on Liberty Garden where a woman from Team Plasma attempted to catch it, but this was thwarted by Black.

Trivia

  • Victini was first shown in a preview for the 14th Pokémon movie at the end of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
  • Victini's Unova Pokédex number is 000, making it the first Pokémon to legitimately have the number 000 in any Pokédex listing.
    • Victini is the only Pokémon to be listed before the starter Pokémon of its native region.
    • Consequently, Victini is the only legendary Pokémon of a later generation to appear next to legendary Pokémon of an earlier generation in the National Pokédex.
    • It is also the first Pokémon that comes first in any region's Pokédex that is not Grass-type.
  • Although Victini has a Shiny sprite, Pokémon Black and White are programmed so that a Shiny Victini cannot be encountered.
  • Victini is the only legendary Psychic-type Pokémon that cannot learn Calm Mind.
  • According to an IGN interview, Victini is Junichi Masuda's favorite Generation V Pokémon.[1]
  • Another interview revealed that Victini was designed by Mana Ibe and that it was meant to appeal more to girls than to boys.[2]
  • Although its tails allow it to fly, Victini can not learn the move Fly.
  • Victini does not have its own battle theme. Instead, the game uses the same song used for battles against the Swords of Justice and the Kami Trio, even though it is not part of either group.

Origin

Victini's appearance, both its normal and Shiny form alike, seems to be based on うさぎリンゴ usagi-ringo, a method of cutting apple slices to make them look similar to rabbits. Conceptually, it might draw inspiration from Nike, the Greek, winged goddess of victory, or Victoria, the Roman equivalent of Nike. Its tail wings may be a reference to Nike's wings. It also resembles the Fennec Fox.

Its theme of "V" could possibly be linked to it being somewhat of the fifth Generation's mascot, "V" being the Roman numeral for 5.

Name origin

Victini may be a combination of victory and destiny, teeny, or tiny. It may also involve vixen (a female fox), due to its slight resemblance to a fennec fox.
