Pokémon world locations |
Faraway Island (Japanese: さいはてのことう Utmost Island) is an island in a distant location from Hoenn, only visitable in Emerald. Its location appears on the Old Sea Map and Mr. Briney returns a favor to the player by helping him or her sail to this island on the ship moored in Lilycove City.
The background music played here is すてらねぶね Abandoned Ship, like in Southern Island, another event location accessible in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.
Sign
On the island is a sign with old, fading writing dated the 6th day of a month; in the English localization, this month ends in "ber", but in the Japanese version, it is only known that it is a month name. Also, exclusively in the Japanese version is a remnant of a signature at the end of the message, ジ ji; this is commonly assumed to be Fuji. Whether it refers to Mr. Fuji or Dr. Fuji, both of whom may actually be the same character, is unknown.
This island could be the Guyanese jungle referenced in the Pokémon Mansion journals.

Pokémon
A single Mew is found on this island. Its battle music theme, 戦闘! ミュウ Battle! Mew, is an arrangement of 戦い (VS伝説のポケモン)Battle (VS Legendary Pokémon) from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, which itself is an arrangement of 戦い (VS野生ポケモン)Fight (VS Wild Pokémon) from the Generation I games.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Faraway Island first appeared in Mirage is Far Away, in which Mr. Briney reported to Kimberly that he managed to find the island without the Old Sea Map. He told her Mew was there but it was alarmed by his presence and flew away from the island.
The place later appeared in The Final Showdown VIII, when all the rental Pokémon at Battle Frontier were calmed by Emerald using pellets with soil from the Pokémon's birthplace. Gold explained he was able to affect many different Pokémon using the same soil because it was taken from the home of Mew, who is said to possess the genes of all Pokémon.
