May battled against Jeremy, who seems to be based on the Guitarist class in Weekend Warrior. However, he owned a Venusaur and a Butterfree, which are not Electric-type like the Guitarists use in the games. However, Butterfree are capable of using sound waves in the games, possibly referencing the Trainer class.
In Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 1 and Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 2, a Guitarist named Billy Jo appeared as a member of Roxie's rock band "Koffing and the Toxics".
In Battling at Full Volume!, a Guitarist named Jimmy came to the camp of Ash and his friends with the intent of testing the strength of his Pikachu, Spike, against Ash's Pikachu. Unbeknownst to him, however, the trainer he battled was Serena, who disguised herself as Ash to stand in for him after he had fallen ill.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga
