Honey (Japanese: あまいミツ Sweet Honey) is a type of item introduced in Generation IV. It can be used to attract wild Pokémon.

Overview
In the core series games
Once Honey is slathered on one of the trees and at least 6 hours have passed, a Pokémon may appear on the tree.  If a tree is left unchecked for 24 hours, both the honey and any Pokémon will be gone.

In the Generation V games, the Honey can be sold to the Item maniac on 5 for PDollar500.

There are 21 honey trees spread throughout Sinnoh. Four of them have a chance to attract Munchlax; these trees are selected based on player information when the game begins, and cannot be changed short of starting a new game.  Any tree has a 90% chance to attract a Pokémon from either of two similar sets of Pokémon, described below.  Munchlax trees have a 1% chance of attracting a Munchlax, and a 9% chance of attracting no Pokémon; other trees have a 10% chance of attracting no Pokémon.
Effect
Generation IV-VII
When used in tall grass, caves, or while surfing, Honey triggers a wild Pokémon battle (like Sweet Scent as a field move). In Generation VI, this will trigger a Horde Encounter if they are present in the area; however, in X and Y, it cannot cause a wild encounter if the overworld weather is not clear.

The Pokémon is determined at the time of slathering the tree. Saving the game, resetting, and re-checking a tree after a Pokémon has appeared will not change the Pokémon, but its level, gender, nature, IVs, and other random values will change. This is helpful for finding a male or female Burmy, which will have different evolutions depending on their gender, or Combee, which only evolves if female.
In Sinnoh, Honey can be slathered on Honey Trees in order to attract wild Pokémon.

If used in tall grass, a cave, or in water, the Honey will activate a Sweet Scent effect, immediately initiating battle with a Pokémon if possible.
Oddities
In Diamond and Pearl only, using Honey (or Sweet Scent) inside a shop or Poké Mart will cause the descriptive text of purchasable items to vanish until the player opens the "SELL" menu or leaves the shop. This is known as the List of glitches in Generation IV.

Location
Generation VIII onward
Honey location
In Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet, Honey serves no practical purpose other than to be sold.

Honey is first obtained after the player saves a man from Team Galactic, in Floaroma Meadow, near Floaroma Town.  He will reward the player with some Honey. From then onwards, the player will be able to purchase Honey from him for PDollar100 each, in Floaroma Meadow.

Honey can also be obtained easily through the use of Combee's special ability, Honey Gather. Combee can collect Honey after a battle, as long as the Pokémon is not holding a held item, and this will be obtained randomly, however the chance increases when the level of the Combee increases. Honey can also be found held onto by wild Combee, having a 50% of holding Honey when captured.
In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Honey can again be used to trigger a wild Pokémon battle in tall grass or caves, and can be slathered on Honey Trees in order to attract wild Pokémon.

There are also many units of Honey scattered throughout the region; starting from 205 to 222.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
spoilers
Though unavailable as an item in Super Mystery Dungeon, Honey is mentioned as being a food produced by the Beedrill and Combee of Nectar Meadow, overseen by their queen and manager Vespiquen. Due to its nutritious properties, Budew heads to Nectar Meadow to obtain some Honey for her ailing Roselia, despite being warned that the Pokémon are usually on edge during their Honey-making season. Misunderstood as a Honey thief, Budew is rescued in time by the player and partner from the angry Beedrill and Combee. After they are defeated, Vespiquen intervenes and resolves the misunderstanding, and gifts Budew with some Honey.

This value starts at 1440 and decreases by 1 after every minute of play time.  When it reaches 1080 minutes, a Pokémon may appear on the tree.  Once the countdown timer reaches 0, any Pokémon will disappear, and the player must slather more Honey.

Note that these values are all determined the moment the tree is slathered in Honey.  After that's done and the game is saved, no amount of resetting will change the Pokémon that will end up on the tree, whether a Pokémon will appear at all, or how much the tree will shake.

Determining the values
Acquisition
First, the game decides which <span style="background:#99FF99">set</span> of six Pokémon to pick from.  There are three in all, but the third only contains Munchlax and is only used by Munchlax trees. If this tree was slathered again after a Pokémon encounter, it has a 90% chance to reuse the same set.  The remaining 10% of the time, or if a new tree is slathered:
Honey is a possible ingredient that can be obtained by completing expeditions. It can also be obtained randomly by recycling Power Stones.
* Munchlax trees have a 20% chance to select from set 1, 70% chance to select from set 2, 9% chance to have no Pokémon, and 1% chance to attract a Munchlax (set 3).
* Non-Munchlax trees have a 70% chance to select from set 1, 20% chance to select from set 2, and 10% chance to have no Pokémon.

For <span style="background:#99FF99">set</span>s 1 and 2, another roll is required to decide <span style="background:#FFCC99">which</span> of the six Pokémon to use. The rarities and Pokémon are listed in the following table:

In the anime
In Some Enchanted Sweetening!, Honey was slathered on a tree, attracting several wild Bug and Grass Pokémon as well Ash's Aipom and Cheryl's Burmy. The Honey appeared to have been slathered by Cheryl, who wanted to catch a male Burmy to help her find the Enchanted Honey. Cheryl later explained to the group that Enchanted Honey was Honey gathered by Combee in the Amber Castle, located deep in Eterna Forest, which is said to be hundreds of times sweeter than normal Honey. With the help of Ash and ashfr, and with her Cheryl leading the way, she located the hive of a Vespiquen and its many worker Combee. After helping defend the hive from TRT, the Vespiquen shared some of its Enchanted Honey with Cheryl, Ash, his friends, and some of their Pokémon. All of them loved the Enchanted Honey, except for Brock's Croagunk, who looked disgusted by the sweet flavor.

Pokémon
In A Trainer and Child Reunion!, Honey was used by TRT in an attempt to catch Aaron's Vespiquen. It instead attracted a Munchlax.
Note: If the last tree where a Pokémon was encountered is slathered again, then there is an initial 90% chance that the tree will attract a Pokémon from the same set that was used before.  This can render the below rates inaccurate.  See above for an explanation of the sets and Pokémon's exact rarities.

Honey (Japanese: あまいミツ Sweet Honey) is a type of item introduced in Generation IV. It can be used to attract wild Pokémon.

In the Generation V games, the Honey can be sold to the gourmet maniac on Route 5 for $500.

Effect

Generation IV-VII

When used in tall grass, caves, or while surfing, Honey triggers a wild Pokémon battle (like Sweet Scent as a field move). In Generation VI, this will trigger a Horde Encounter if they are present in the area; however, in Pokémon X and Y, it cannot cause a wild encounter if the overworld weather is not clear.

In Sinnoh, Honey can be slathered on Honey Trees in order to attract wild Pokémon.

Oddities

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl only, using Honey (or Sweet Scent) inside a shop or Poké Mart will cause the descriptive text of purchasable items to vanish until the player opens the "SELL" menu or leaves the shop. This is known as the Poké Mart text glitch.

Generation VIII onward

In Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Honey serves no practical purpose other than to be sold.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Honey can again be used to trigger a wild Pokémon battle in tall grass or caves, and can be slathered on Honey Trees in order to attract wild Pokémon.

Though unavailable as an item in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Honey is mentioned as being a food produced by the Beedrill and Combee of Nectar Meadow, overseen by their queen and manager Vespiquen. Due to its nutritious properties, Budew heads to Nectar Meadow to obtain some Honey for her ailing mother, despite being warned that the Pokémon are usually on edge during their Honey-making season. Misunderstood as a Honey thief, Budew is rescued in time by the player and partner from the angry Beedrill and Combee. After they are defeated, Vespiquen intervenes and resolves the misunderstanding, and gifts Budew with some Honey.

Honey in the anime

In Some Enchanted Sweetening!, Honey was slathered on a tree, attracting several wild Bug-type and Grass-type Pokémon as well Ash's Aipom and Cheryl's Burmy. With the help of Ash and his friends, and with her Mothim leading the way, she located the hive of a Vespiquen and its many worker Combee. After helping defend the hive from Team Rocket, the Vespiquen shared some of its Enchanted Honey with Cheryl, Ash, his friends, and some of their Pokémon. All of them loved the Enchanted Honey, except for Brock's Croagunk, who looked disgusted by the sweet flavor.

In A Trainer and Child Reunion!, Honey was used by Team Rocket in an attempt to catch Aaron's Vespiquen. It instead attracted a Munchlax.

In Strategy Begins at Home!, Honey was planted on a tree by a young boy named Nathaniel, which attracted a Heracross.

In a flashback in Historical Mystery Tour!, it was revealed that Barry used Honey to attract his Heracross. He repeated this same scenario in an illusionary adventure that a Clown sent him to.
