==Biology== | ==Biology==
Torterra is a tall, bulky, quadrupedal {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} resembling a {{wp|tortoise}}, with a large shell covering its back. There is a single, oak-like tree and three triangular, stony extensions resembling mountain peaks on the top of the shell. There is a patch of brown, resembling soil, next to the tree. A white rim surrounds the shell and forms a diamond-shaped continuation on the front. Torterra's body appears sectioned, with the upper half being green and the lower half brown. Its mouth is jagged, which gives it the appearance of a snapping turtle. It also has a black nose. Its lower jaw is green and there are two large spikes protruding from its cheeks. Torterra's small, red eyes are encircled by a black ring. Its legs are thick and they have four toes each, which appear as if they are actually jagged stones. There are three toes on the front and one on the heel.
Torterra | |||
Torterra's large and clean shell supports the lives of many small Pokémon, which occasionally gather and {{wp|commensalism|build their nests upon the shell}}. Some are even born and spend their entire lives there. Torterra migrates in groups, searching for clean water, creating the illusion of moving forests. However, it is typically immobile. Torterra is believed to possess unmatched physical strength. Ancient people believed the ground contained a gigantic Torterra living underneath.
=== | ===Evolution=== | ||
Torterra evolves into {{p|Grotle}} and is the final form of {{p|Turtwig}}.

Torterra (Japanese: ドダイトス Dodaitose) is a dual-type Grass/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.
It evolves from Grotle starting at level 32. It is the final form of Turtwig.
Biology
Torterra is a tall, bulky, quadrupedal Pokémon resembling a tortoise, with a large shell covering its back.
Torterra's large and clean shell supports the lives of many small Pokémon, which occasionally gather and build their nests upon the shell.
Evolution
Torterra evolves into Grotle and is the final form of Turtwig.

Other appearances
POKÉMON Detective Pikachu
Multiple Torterra appeared in POKÉMON Detective Pikachu. They were genetically modified by scientists at the PCL for their growing. Many normal-sized Torterra live in the facility, but gigantic ones, who are as big as mountains, lay dormant nearby.
Trivia
- Torterra shares its category with Groudon. They are both known as the Continent Pokémon.
- When walking to the right in Amity Square in Pokémon Platinum, Torterra's sprite erroneously shows its left side.
- Torterra's Speed stat of 56 is the lowest base stat of any fully evolved first partner Pokémon.
Origin
Torterra appears to be based on a snapping turtle and an ankylosaur, which is an armored dinosaur. Its large features and spikes may also be inspired by extinct Meiolania and Proganochelys turtles. In concept, it may be based on the World Turtle from various mythologies that carries the world upon its back.
Name origin
Torterra may be a combination of tortoise and terra (Latin for earth).
Dodaitose may be a combination of 土 do (earth or ground), 大 dai (large), 土台 dodai (foundation), and tortoise.
