'''Lanturn''' ([[List of Japanese Pokémon names|Japanese]]: '''ランターン''' ''Lantern'') is a dual-type {{2t|Water|Electric}} {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} introduced in [[Generation II]].

==Biology==
==Biology==
Lanturn is a large, blue fish-like Pokémon with a pair of small blue fins. It has a yellow "mask" over its red eyes. The tip of the bottom of its tail is also colored yellow. Lanturn's yellow orbs come from a modification of its dorsal fin. These orbs contain a colony of bacteria that create a chemical reaction, which generates electricity in a similar fashion to that of a battery. Lanturn uses the bright part of its body to lure fish prey. It then blinds the prey with an intense burst of light, and swallows the immobilized prey in a single gulp. Lanturn inhabits the {{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Sea Pokémon|ocean}} at depths of over three miles.
Lanturn is a blue {{wp|fish|piscine}} {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} that resembles an {{wp|anglerfish}}. It has big, red eyes with a yellow mask-like marking around it and small, light blue {{wp|fish fin|pectoral fins}}. The lower half of its tailfin is yellow and has jagged edges. On its back is a Y-shaped antenna with a spherical orb at each tip; this antenna is a modification of its dorsal fin.

==In the anime==
Inside its orbs are bacteria that produce light by absorbing Lanturn's bodily fluids. It lures prey using the glow, then blinds them by using an intense flash before it swallows them whole. The flash it creates is visible on the surface from a depth of over three miles (five kilometers). This has earned it the nickname ''The Deep-Sea Star''. Lanturn competes with {{p|Lumineon}} when catching its prey {{p|Starmie}}. {{p|Frillish}} and {{p|Sharpedo}} are natural predators of Lanturn. Lanturn inhabits the depths of the {{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Sea Pokémon|ocean}}.

Lanturn (Japanese: ランターン Lantern) is a dual-type Water/Electric Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves from Chinchou starting at level 27.

Biology

Lanturn is a blue piscine Pokémon that resembles an anglerfish. It has big, red eyes with a yellow mask-like marking around it and small, light blue pectoral fins. The lower half of its tailfin is yellow and has jagged edges. On its back is a Y-shaped antenna with a spherical orb at each tip; this antenna is a modification of its dorsal fin.

Inside its orbs are bacteria that produce light by absorbing Lanturn's bodily fluids. It lures prey using the glow, then blinds them by using an intense flash before it swallows them whole. The flash it creates is visible on the surface from a depth of over three miles (five kilometers). This has earned it the nickname The Deep-Sea Star. Lanturn competes with Lumineon when catching its prey Starmie. Frillish and Sharpedo are natural predators of Lanturn. Lanturn inhabits the depths of the ocean.

Evolution

Lanturn evolves from Chinchou.

Trivia

Origin

Bulbanews
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:

Lanturn is based on an anglerfish, more specifically the footballfish, although it shares some similarities with dolphins. It is also possible that Lanturn's origin contains a small piece of Apollo, the Greek god of light whose signature animal was the dolphin.

Name origin

Lanturn may be a combination of lantern and turn (as in "turn on the light").

Lantern is literally lantern.
