Larvitar is a small, green reptilian Pokémon with rocky skin. It has a blunt spike on top of its head, a short, rounded snout, and triangular, black markings below and on the upper corners of its red eyes. Red scales cover its diamond-shaped belly, and there are several small holes in its body. Its short arms lack fingers, while its feet have a single toenail each. It has a tail with a conical center surrounded by a ring of plate-like scales, causing it to resemble a tunnel-boring machine | [[File:LarvitarObsidianFlames105.jpg|thumb|150px|left|Larvitar feeding on soil]]
Larvitar is a small, green reptilian {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} with rocky skin. It has a blunt spike on top of its head, a short, rounded snout, and triangular, black markings below and on the upper corners of its red eyes. Red scales cover its diamond-shaped belly, and there are several small diamond-shaped holes in its body. Its short arms lack fingers, while its feet have a single toenail each. It has a tail with a conical center surrounded by a ring of plate-like scales, causing it to resemble a tunnel-boring machine.
Larvitar is born deep underground, far from its parent. It emerges to the surface and grows by consuming soil, and it will enter its pupal stage upon eating an entire mountain's worth of earth. This pupal stage is an evolution called {{p|Pupitar}}. Larvitar usually lives in {{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Mountain Pokémon|mountains}}, hills, and caves. It adapts poorly to bright lights. As mentioned in {{g|Sleep}}, it is possible to find a Larvitar holding a half-eaten clump of earth while it sleeps.<ref>[[Sleep style|Sleep Style Dex]]</ref> It is believed this is due to Larvitar falling asleep after filling its belly.

Larvitar | Larvitar evolves into {{p|Pupitar}}, which evolves into {{p|Tyranitar}}.

Larvitar (Japanese: ヨーギラス Yogiras) is a dual-type Rock/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation II.
It evolves into Pupitar starting at level 30, which evolves into Tyranitar starting at level 55.
Biology
Larvitar is a small, green reptilian Pokémon with rocky skin. It has a blunt spike on top of its head, a short, rounded snout, and triangular, black markings below and on the upper corners of its red eyes.
This pupal stage is an evolution called Pupitar. Larvitar usually lives in mountains, hills, and caves. It adapts poorly to bright lights. As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, it is possible to find a Larvitar holding a half-eaten clump of earth while it sleeps.[1] It is believed this is due to Larvitar falling asleep after filling its belly.
Evolution
Larvitar evolves into Pupitar, which evolves into Tyranitar.
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

Major appearances
Ash's Larvitar
Larvitar made its main series debut in Hatch Me If You Can. In the episode, Ash had a Larvitar that he hatched from an Egg given to him by Professor Elm, intended to be delivered to its mother living on Mt. Silver. Despite not being able to learn Harden in the games, it constantly used it when approached by anyone other than Ash or Pikachu prior to Mother of All Battles.
Other
Larvitar debuted in Pikachu's PikaBoo. Pikachu and its friends invited it and its own friends to a game of hide-and-seek, though Larvitar refused because it holds its responsibility for being charge of guarding the garden. Later, it felt angry about its duty being compromised and viciously kicked a rock at a lawnmower, which went ridiculously haywire, causing it the chase Pikachu and its friends which causes Larvitar to become contrite, though the situation was eventually resolved.
In Pinch Healing, a Larvitar was being babysat by a Poké-Sitter named Matt. Ash and his friends decided to help him with his job. The Larvitar was particularly shy and would use Sandstorm when confronted. By the end of the episode, however, it warmed up to the group, particularly May.
In The Mystery of the Missing Cubchoo!, a Larvitar befriended Chris's Cubchoo and joined his team at the end of the episode.

Name origin
Larvitar may be derived from larva and Tarasque.
Yogiras may be a combination of 幼児 yōji (baby or child) or 幼生 yōsei (larva), 嫌い kirai (hated), and ソーラス -saurus (Greek-derived suffix for dinosaur names).
