Route 104 is a north-south route located in west Hoenn. Its northern terminus is at the limits of Rustboro City. The southern extent of the route is actually located at Route 105, a water route, but the southern terminus of the main path is at the western edge of Petalburg City.

The route is divided into two halves by Petalburg Woods, the Hoenn equivalent of Kanto's Viridian Forest and Johto's Ilex Forest.
Route 104 (Japanese: 104番道路 Route 104) is a route in west Hoenn, connecting Petalburg City, Rustboro City, and 105. The route is divided into two halves by Petalburg Woods.

In the games
Traveling south from Rustboro, the beaten path of the route swerves to the east for a short distance before turning south toward a bridge traversing a pond. On the north side of the pond, there is a patch of loamy soil that initially contains Cheri Berry and Leppa Berry trees and can hold up to three trees. Near the patch, an old woman gives out a Chesto Berry and reminds trainers of the regenerating ability of Berries. Also, to the west of the patch, the first trainer on Route 104, a Fisherman, is standing by the shore of the pond.
Route description
Route 104 is split into two segments, south and north, with Petalburg Woods lying between. A land-based path winds from Petalburg City in the south, through Petalburg Woods, and finally to Rustboro City in the north. Surfing south into the sea in the southern segment will also lead into 105. For a while after his Peeko is rescued, Mr. Briney will also ferry the player directly to Dewford Town or Slateport City on his boat.

On the bridge, which runs south for half the length of the pond, turns east, then returns south as it makes landfall, the first set of double battle trainers that one encounters in Hoenn, Twins Gina and Mia, await to challenge any trainers that cross their path.
In the southern segment, approximately half of the route is split between land and sea. Entering the area from Petalburg City in the east, there is a ledge to the north and a set of stairs to the south. The ledge to the north blocks off a small area of the northeastern part of the route, which is only accessible via the southeast exit of Petalburg Woods and where a Poké Ball can be found lying on the ground. The main path skirts this ledge to turn north, running briefly through a patch of tall grass, then past Mr. Briney's cottage and towards a bed of soft soil. Turning east again at the bed of soft soil, tall grass once again springs up around the end of the path where it finally turns north a brief ways to lead into Petalburg Woods. Rich Boy Winston/Lady Cindy waits just south of the entrance to the woods to battle the player.

Directly northeast of the bridge is the Pretty Petal Flower Shop. In this shop, there are plants available for purchase. These plants are used to be decorate your secret base.
Down the stairs south of the Petalburg City entrance is a beach that extends a short ways away from the main path, connecting with another set of stairs back to the main path just in front of Mr. Briney's cottage. A pier at the northwest end of the beach by Mr. Briney's cottage also extends into the sea, and a ship initially sits docked at this pier. The sea leads south towards 105 and eventually Dewford Town. On the beach, Youngster Billy paces in a square looking for a battle. A couple of hidden items can also be found buried within the sand of the beach.

Immediately south of the bridge near where the south turns west is Lass Haley. To her east is a Cut-able tree that blocks the way to a Dire Hit (Ruby and Sapphire) or an X Accuracy (Emerald). West of Haley is the fifth trainer on Route 104, Lady Cindy (R/S) or Rich Boy Winston (E). Continuing west, the path splits into two. To the south is Petalburg Woods. To the northwest is the Pretty Petal Flower Shop, another loamy patch containing Oran and Cheri Berries, as well as a man who gives out TM09, Bullet Seed, to trainers. Farther north, past the flower shop, there is a sporadic patch of grass with wild Pokémon that has a Potion located in its center.
In the northern segment, where the path exits from Petalburg Woods, it branches west and east. The west branch quickly turns north to the Pretty Petal flower shop. A bed of soft soil is also located nearby outside the Pretty Petal flower shop, and behind the shop there is a sizable patch of grass where a couple of hidden items lie among the bare patches in the grass. Within the shop, the Wailmer Pail can be obtained from a girl on the north side of the shop and, after the player has obtained the Dynamo/Balance (and talked to the woman by the door to learn about Berries), plants for decorating the player's Secret Base can also be purchased.

South of Petalburg Woods, Route 104 is split into two halves by a pair of exits from the forest. The west exit, which is the main entrance and exit, emerges just ahead of either Rich Boy Winston (R/S) or Lady Cindy (E). The path, shrouded by grass at this point, turns east for a lengthy distance before returning south at a loamy patch containing Oran and Pecha Berries. Meanwhile, the eastern half, separated from the west by a ledge and containing a Poké Ball, comes into contact with the west at this point.
The east branch of the path from Petalburg Woods follows the southern edge of a large pond for a considerable distance before connecting with a bridge that crosses the pond. Lady Cindy/Rich Boy Winston waits on the path shortly before it connects to the bridge to battle the player, while Lass Haley waits to challenge the player just east off the path where it bends to connect to the bridge. Just behind Haley there is a cuttable tree that blocks the way to an X Accuracy/Revive. The bridge crosses the pond with a brief westward jog in the middle, and on this middle section of the bridge wait Twins Gina and Mia to challenge crossing Trainers in the first possible Double Battle the player will find in Hoenn (as long as the player has at least two Pokémon in their party). A PP Up can also be found on the east shore of the pond in a brief open spot if the player uses Surf.

The western half continues south from the loamy soil, passing the house of Mr. Briney as it splits into two paths once again. The southern path travels through a large patch of grass before turning southeast and, eventually, to the east as it enters Petalburg. The western path at this junction turns south at Mr. Briney's home onto a beach. Here, there are no less than four trainers waiting to battle. This also serves as the northern terminus of Route 105. As a whole, the beach travels south to southeast, reuniting with the main path just west of Petalburg.
On the north side of the pond, the entrance to Rustboro City lies to the northwest following the beaten path, the sides of which are dotted with a few persistent puddles. To the east of the bridge, Fisherman Ivan is eager to battle if spoken to, and farther east at the edge of the route is a bed of soft soil and an old woman who will give out a Chesto Berry.

In the anime
Only the northern half of Route 104 was featured in the anime. While Mr. Briney and his boat shed appeared in On a Wingull and a Prayer!, the location was instead considered a part of Rustboro City's port district and not the southern portion of Route 104 as in the games.
In Taming of the Shroomish, Ash and ashfr arrived in Rinshin Town, located on the edge of Petalburg Woods, and soon learned about a haunted mansion called the Green Lodge. They met Alex, the grandson of the original owner, who was in the midst of demolishing his dilapidated mansion to make way for a new development site. After he realized the mansion meant a lot to the large Shroomish population, Alex decided to still clear the block, but to make way for a new forest meant to house the Mushroom Pokémon.
Anthony and his "world powerful" Pelipper had established an unofficial Gym in another town featured in You Said a Mouthful!. Ash went on to challenge Anthony, and lost because of its peculiar array of moves. Max's initial suspicions later proved to be correct when it was revealed that Anthony had Poké Balls stored in Pelipper's bill. Anthony went on to close his Gym down and travel around with Pelipper.
Ash and his friends entered a forest reserve protected by Pokémon Ranger Katrina in A Bite to Remember. The group helped her Poochyena, who was the same age as Katrina's other three Mightyena, evolve.
In The Lotad Lowdown, the group decided to swim in a picturesque lake, but soon learned that they had trespassed on private property. Natalie escorted Ash and his friends over to her sister's store, the Pretty Petal flower shop. Nicole and Rita apologized for their younger sister's behavior, and showed the group around their Berry fields. Brock also caught his Brock after he helped it master its Water Gun.

| align=center | Magikarp
May met rival Coordinators Janet and Chaz, who were preparing for the Rustboro City Contest in All Things Bright and Beautifly!. May went on to assist Janet during the Appeal Rounds and became inspired to become a Pokémon Coordinator.

Trainer Tips
The group ventured through another forested area, close to Rustboro City, which was patrolled by the twins Forrest Franklin and Forrester Franklin in All in a Day's Wurmple. May caught herself a May, and Jessie later caught her own Jessie.
* In the Hoenn region there are pairs of Trainers who chalenge others for 2-on-2 Pokémon battles called Double Battles. In a Double Battle, the Trainer must send out two Pokémon, the one at the left of the list and the top one. Watch how Pokémon are lined up.

Route 104 (Japanese: 104番道路 Route 104) is a route in west Hoenn, connecting Petalburg City, Rustboro City, and Route 105. The route is divided into two halves by Petalburg Woods.

In the games

Route description

Route 104 is split into two segments, south and north, with Petalburg Woods lying between. A land-based path winds from Petalburg City in the south, through Petalburg Woods, and finally to Rustboro City in the north. Surfing south into the sea in the southern segment will also lead into Route 105. For a while after his Peeko is rescued, Mr. Briney will also ferry the player directly to Dewford Town or Slateport City on his boat.

Rich Boy WinstonRSORAS/Lady CindyE waits just south of the entrance to the woods to battle the player.

The sea leads south towards Route 105 and eventually Dewford Town. On the beach, Youngster Billy paces in a square looking for a battle. A couple of hidden items can also be found buried within the sand of the beach.

Within the shop, the Wailmer Pail can be obtained from a girl on the north side of the shop and, after the player has obtained the Dynamo BadgeRSE/Balance BadgeORAS (and talked to the woman by the door to learn about Berries), plants for decorating the player's Secret Base can also be purchased.

The east branch of the path from Petalburg Woods follows the southern edge of a large pond for a considerable distance before connecting with a bridge that crosses the pond. Lady CindyRSORAS/Rich Boy WinstonE waits on the path shortly before it connects to the bridge to battle the player, while Lass Haley waits to challenge the player just east off the path where it bends to connect to the bridge. Just behind Haley there is a cuttable tree that blocks the way to an X AccuracyRSE/ReviveORAS.

Route 104 in the anime

Only the northern half of Route 104 was featured in the anime. While Mr. Briney and his boat shed appeared in On a Wingull and a Prayer!, the location was instead considered a part of Rustboro City's port district and not the southern portion of Route 104 as in the games.

In Taming of the Shroomish, Ash and his friends arrived in Rinshin Town, located on the edge of Petalburg Woods, and soon learned about a haunted mansion called the Green Lodge.

Brock also caught his Lotad after he helped it master its Water Gun.

May met rival Coordinators Janet and Chaz, who were preparing for the Rustboro City Contest in All Things Bright and Beautifly!. May went on to assist Janet during the Appeal Rounds and became inspired to become a Pokémon Coordinator.

The group ventured through another forested area, close to Rustboro City, which was patrolled by the twins Forrest Franklin and Forrester Franklin in All in a Day's Wurmple. May caught herself a Wurmple, and Jessie later caught her own Wurmple.
