Nidoran♀ (Japanese: ニドラン♀ Nidoran♀) is a Poison Pokémon.
|generation=1
|friendship=70
}}
Nidoran♀ (Japanese: ニドラン♀ Nidoran♀) is a Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves into Nidorina starting at level 16, which evolves into Nidoqueen when exposed to a Moon Stone.

It is related to the Nidoran♂ line, and when bred with either one of them, it can produce Eggs that contain either Nidoran♀ or Nidoran♂. However, it is the only one of its line that can breed as its evolutions are in the No Eggs Discovered.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Nidoran♀ is a small, quadrupedal, mammalian Pokémon. It has large, spiny ears, oversized front teeth, red eyes, and whiskers on each cheek. It is light blue with several darker blue spots. There are two white claws on each of its paws. Its back is covered with small toxic spines, and it has a small forehead horn.
Nidoran♀ is a small, rabbit-based Pokémon with large ears, whiskers and front teeth. They are covered with small spines primarily on their back which can release potent poisons if Nidoran♀ is threatened. Nidoran♀ doesn't seem to possess any fur, similar to reptiles. Nidoran♀ have a smaller forehead horn than their male counterparts, Nidoran♂.

Gender differences
The poisons secreted by the spines and horn are extremely potent, and even a scratch from its horn or a drop of poison from its barbs can be deadly. However, this docile Pokémon only uses its poison when it feels threatened. Nidoran♀ is more sensitive to smell than Nidoran♂. It can use its whiskers to check the wind while searching for berries or avoiding predators. Nidoran♀ can use its incisor teeth to crush the berries it forages for. Nidoran♀ lives in open spaces, such as List of Pokémon by habitat. Nidoran♀ is a female-only species.
Nidoran♀ is the female of the species, and is noted to be one of the first Pokémon to denote gender differences. In the later generations, however, Pokémon with genders are marked with a ♀ or ♂ symbol, rather than being actual different Pokémon.

Compare with Nidoran♂. Note how the male Nidoran has a longer horn and more spines, as well as a different color.
Evolution
Nidoran♀ evolves into Nidorina, which evolves into Nidoqueen.

Special abilities
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)
Nidoran♀ usually attacks by clawing and biting her foes. She also has the aforementioned ability to secrete poison from her small spikes. Nidoran♀ can also wield a couple of Ice and Electric attacks.

Behavior
Game data
Nidoran♀ are known to be rather docile and reserved. However, angering one can result in being poisoned by one of its toxic spines. These are thought to have developed to counteract its small size.

Pokémon caught in Generation I must be traded to a Generation II game in order for a held item to appear.
Nidoran♀'s debut was in Sparks Fly for Magnemite as a sick Pokémon at a Pokémon Center.

A romance between male and female Nidoran was the focus in Wherefore Art Thou, Pokémon?. After the battle with Team Rocket, and after kissing Ralph's Nidoran♂, Emily's Nidoran♀ evolved into a Nidorina.

Trivia
*Nidoran was the first Pokémon to feature gender, and even gender differences; however, their difference is much greater than later Pokémon.

*Despite the addition of Genders in all pokemon starting in Generation II, the two variations of Nidoran remained seperate species, rather than a singular species that splits down different evolution paths based on gender.
* Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ were the first Pokémon to feature any indication of gender, before it was introduced as a mechanic and applied to other Pokémon in Generation II.
*Nidoran♀'s alternate coloration is based on Nidoran♂'s normal coloration.
** Despite the addition of genders to other Pokémon, the two variations of Nidoran remain separate species, rather than a singular species that splits down different evolution paths based on gender. An Egg laid by a Nidoran♀ does, however, has a chance of hatching into a Nidoran♂, while an Egg laid by a Nidoran♂ with a Ditto has a chance of hatching into a Nidoran♀.
* A Nidoran♀ egg has a chance of hatching into a Nidoran♂.
* Nidoran♀ is the only Pokémon that loses the ability to breed upon evolution.
*Nidoran♀ and Nidorina share the same species name with their male counterparts Nidoran♂ and Nidorino.
* Nidoran♀'s Shiny form is similar to Nidoran♂'s normal coloration, and vice versa for Nidoran♂.
* Nidoran♀ shares its category name with Nidorina, Nidoran♂, Nidorino, Poipole, and Naganadel. They are all known as the Poison Pin Pokémon.
* Due to the fact that its gender, ♀, is included in its name, checking Nidoran♀'s summary from Generation II onward (except Sword and Shield and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl) will display as if it were gender unknown if it does not have a nickname. If its nickname is anything other than "Nidoran♀", its gender will appear as normal.

Origin
Origin
Nidoran♀ appears to be based on a rabbit.
Nidoran♀ appears to draw inspiration from various characteristics of lagomorphs and rodents, with aspects of venomous mammals. It may also reference the mythical Moon rabbit due to its rabbit like appearance and the fact that it reaches its final evolved form using a Moon Stone. Its differences from Nidoran♂ may be based on sexual dimorphism, and the coloration of Nidoran and its evolutions may be a reference to the gendered associations of pink and blue in previous centuries.

Name origin
Name origin
Nidoran♀'s name may be based on the word needle. Alternatively, it may be based on 二 ni, two, or 二度 nido, two times/two degrees, referring to there being two distinct evolutionary lines with similar names and traits. The in its name is an indication of its female gender.
Nidoran♀ may be derived from needle, with ♀ as an indication of its female gender. It may also involve 二度 nido (twice).

Nidoran♀ (Japanese: ニドラン♀ Nidoran♀) is a Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves into Nidorina starting at level 16, which evolves into Nidoqueen when exposed to a Moon Stone.

It is related to the Nidoran♂ line, and when bred with either one of them, it can produce Eggs that contain either Nidoran♀ or Nidoran♂. However, it is the only one of its line that can breed as its evolutions are in the No Eggs Discovered Egg Group.

Biology

Nidoran♀ is a small, quadrupedal, mammalian Pokémon. It has large, spiny ears, oversized front teeth, red eyes, and whiskers on each cheek. It is light blue with several darker blue spots. There are two white claws on each of its paws. Its back is covered with small toxic spines, and it has a small forehead horn.

Nidoran♀ lives in open spaces, such as savannas and plains. Nidoran♀ is a female-only species.

Evolution

Nidoran♀ evolves into Nidorina, which evolves into Nidoqueen.

Trivia

Baby Nidoran
  • Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ were the first Pokémon to feature any indication of gender, before it was introduced as a mechanic and applied to other Pokémon in Generation II.
    • Despite the addition of genders to other Pokémon, the two variations of Nidoran remain separate species, rather than a singular species that splits down different evolution paths based on gender. An Egg laid by a Nidoran♀ does, however, has a chance of hatching into a Nidoran♂, while an Egg laid by a Nidoran♂ with a Ditto has a chance of hatching into a Nidoran♀.
  • Nidoran♀ is the only Pokémon that loses the ability to breed upon evolution.
  • Nidoran♀'s Shiny form is similar to Nidoran♂'s normal coloration, and vice versa for Nidoran♂.
  • Nidoran♀ shares its category name with Nidorina, Nidoran♂, Nidorino, Poipole, and Naganadel. They are all known as the Poison Pin Pokémon.
  • Due to the fact that its gender, ♀, is included in its name, checking Nidoran♀'s summary from Generation II onward (except Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl) will display as if it were gender unknown if it does not have a nickname. If its nickname is anything other than "Nidoran♀", its gender will appear as normal.

Origin

Nidoran♀ appears to draw inspiration from various characteristics of lagomorphs and rodents, with aspects of venomous mammals. It may also reference the mythical Moon rabbit due to its rabbit like appearance and the fact that it reaches its final evolved form using a Moon Stone. Its differences from Nidoran♂ may be based on sexual dimorphism, and the coloration of Nidoran and its evolutions may be a reference to the gendered associations of pink and blue in previous centuries.

Name origin

Nidoran♀ may be derived from needle, with ♀ as an indication of its female gender. It may also involve 二度 nido (twice).
