Trivia

  • Durant and Heatmor appear to be rivals.
    • Unlike most Pokémon rivalries, Durant is at a severe disadvantage against Heatmor since it has a 4× weakness to Heatmor's type. However, this was probably done to reflect that Anteaters have dominance over, and eat, ants.
  • Durant has the highest Speed of all Steel-type Pokémon.
  • Durant is the only Pokémon not in the Slakoth-line to have the Truant ability, though only through the Dream World.
  • Durant is the last non-legendary Pokémon in the National Pokédex that does not belong to an evolution family.

Origin

Durant is based on an ant, possibly the Argentine ant, as its jaw is similar to Durant's. Its coloration may be based on the spiny ant's (Polyrhachis sp.) natural silver color.

Name origin

Durant is likely a combination of durable or endurance, referring to its Steel-type, and ant.

Aianto seems to be a combination of アイアン aian (iron) and the English word ant.
