Route 229 (Japanese: 229ばんどうろ Route 229) is a route in northeastern Sinnoh located in the Battle Zone. It connects Route 228, Route 230, and the Resort Area.

Route description

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as players enter from the north via Route 228 they first encounter grass containing wild Pokémon. The route continues directly south past a body of water leading to Route 230, before reaching its southern terminus at Resort Area. To the east of the grassy patch is a curved section of long grass filled with various items and Trainers before reaching a southern terminus in the Resort Area.

The route featured extensive redesign in Platinum, with the major detail being the lack of open water to access Route 230 on the western side. Instead, a narrow corridor between palm trees is found. The remaining changes are primarily aesthetic, such as the trees, and a new grass and pavement texture.

Trivia

  • The two Ace Trainers that appear on the southernmost part of this route have their parties based on those of Butler and Diane in Jirachi: Wish Maker. In the Japanese version, they are named as Butler and Diane, but the English translation team did not notice the relation to the movie characters.
