Psyduck (Japanese: コダック Koduck) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves into Golduck starting at level 33.
Biology
Physiology
Psyduck resembles a yellow duck or platypus with a vacant stare. It has a three small tuft of black hair at the top of its head. It walks on its hind legs, and has arms rather than wings. Its arms are useful in using its powerful psychic abilities. Its appearance, according to the Pokédex, is meant to trick enemies into thinking it is weak. It has arms with three claws on each to deliver scratches if threatened.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Psyduck is constantly stunned by its headache. It usually just stands there vacantly, trying to calm its headache. When the headache gets too bad, however, it releases tension in the form of strong psychic powers.
Behavior
Psyduck are usually unable to think very clearly due to having a chronic headache. Because of the headache, a Psyduck will always hold its head. When these headaches worsen, Psyduck may use psychic powers.
Habitat
Psyduck live in freshwater lakes, small ponds, or rivers in tropical areas. It is a widespread Pokémon common in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh.

Major appearances
Nine Psyduck appeared in The Psyduck Stops Here!; six parents and three babies. Three of the parents were blocking the path that Ash and his friends tried to pass on their way to Celestic Town. The Psyduck weren't able to return to their real home, Lake Psyduck, due to three Muk.
Misty has a Psyduck that she accidentally caught in Hypno's Naptime. It is a constant source of frustration for her, as it frequently emerges from its Poké Ball to attempt to battle the opponent in substitution of one of her other Pokémon. Despite this, she has been shown to deeply care for it. Despite being generally shown as dimwitted and oblivious, when its headache gets bad enough, it has been shown to use phenomenally powerful Template:Type2 moves which far exceed its potential.
Other
In Bye Bye Psyduck, a girl named Marina owned a Psyduck that wasn't as dopey as the one Misty had.
In Sitting Psyduck, a Psyduck was owned by a rich girl named Emily. However, the Psyduck didn't like having a pampered life-style and kept running away.

In the manga
In the How I Became a Pokémon Card manga
In the How I Became a Pokémon Card manga, a Psyduck appears in Troubled Pokémon, Psyduck.
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
In the Red, Green & Blue arc, an undead Psyduck that had been brought back to life by a Koga's Gastly appeared in the Pokémon Tower. It first appeared to Red like a normal Psyduck, until it attempted an assault on him: its eyeballs suddenly sunk into its eye sockets and some skin fell off, revealing its bones. Since it was just a mindless undead, it was easily destroyed by Red's Bulbasaur using Vine Whip.
After several other appearances, a herd of Psyduck appeared, blocking the route to Celestic Town, just as they had in the games. However, included among them were trainer Pokémon, and this was all a ruse by Team Galactic, which Cynthia catches on to shortly after calming them.

Trivia
- Psyduck, as well as Golduck, has been in all four Japan-centric regional Pokédexes. It can be caught in every Safari Zone.
- Psyduck is one of fourteen Pokémon that one could collect foreign Pokédex entries for in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
- Psyduck is the only Pokémon to learn Psychic by breeding.
- Psyduck could not learn Psychic any other way up until Generation IV, where it was allowed to learn it by TM.
- Despite in anime statements that Psyduck never remember, it capable to learn Amnesia only in Generation IV.
- Psyduck requires the most loops with the Capture Styler to be captured in Pokémon Ranger, surpassing even Metagross.
- Despite its own name and numerous Pokédex entries talking about how its headache increases its psychic powers, neither Psyduck nor Golduck are part Psychic.
Origin
Psyduck's apparent lack of feathers and ability to fly, along with its claws, suggest that its design draws inspiration from a platypus with some influence from ducks.
A similar creature called the "Thought Eater" appears in the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. In early editions it bore a close resemblance to a platypus, though in more recent editions its look has been changed.
Name origin
Psyduck's name is possibly a combination of psychic, referring to its mental powers, and duck. Its Japanese name can be taken to mean small duck.
In other languages
- German: Enton - An extension of Ente (duck).
- French: Psykokwak - From psychotique (psychotic) and couac (a duck's cry).
- Korean: 고라파덕 Gorapadeok
- Spanish: Psyduck
- Chinese (Taiwan): 可達鴨 Kě Dá Yā - Transliteration of Psyduck's Japanese name, Koduck. The last character means duck.
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 傻鴨 - Literally "silly duck". Probably because of its silly appearance.
