Motostoke (Japanese: エンジンシティ Engine City) is a city situated in the central south of the Galar region.

Slogan

An industrial city studded with steam-powered marvels of modern engineering. (Japanese: 蒸気機関を　利用して　近代化を　とげた　工業都市 An industrial city that was modernized using the steam engine.)

Role

When the player first enters Motostoke, they will be at its lower tier; upon walking forward to the first intersection, Sonia will appear, take the player into the Pokémon Center, and give them Leon's League Card. Upon exiting the Pokémon Center, Sonia will show the player where to find the lift that takes them to the upper tier. Approaching the lift will cause Leon to appear and give the player the type-enhancing item matching their starter Pokémon's type.

After taking the lift, the player must enter the Motostoke Stadium. Attempting to detour to the left causes the player to be blocked by a group of fans excited for the upcoming Gym Challenge opening ceremony, while attemping to detour to the right causes the player to be shooed away by a tired Flying Taxi Corviknight. When approaching the stadium, Hop will appear and briefly tell the player about his own excitement before he enters the stadium.

Entering the stadium will begin a cutscene where the player and Hop briefly encounter Bede for the first time (though he is not named) and the two then present their Endorsements to sign up for the Gym Challenge. The player picks their uniform number at this time. The player and Hop are informed that they may book a room at the Budew Drop Inn for the night in preparation for the opening ceremony tomorrow, and exiting the stadium plays a very brief scene where a League staff member shows the player the direction of the inn.

Motostoke Stadium

Motostoke Stadium is the official Pokémon Gym of Motostoke. It is located on the upper floor district of Motostoke. Its Leader is Kabu, who hands out the Fire Badge to those who defeat him. It is the third Gym that Gym Challengers have to face. The opening ceremony of the Gym Challenge is also held here.

Motostoke was mentioned in JN100, where Ash planned to take a train there from Wyndon to meet up with Goh at the Motostoke Riverbank, but he was distracted by the prospect of watching Leon's latest battle at the Wyndon Stadium before he could do that.

Motostoke first appeared in Crackle!! Practice Battle. A televised program was featured live from there, but the guest star, Leon, was late. As it turned out, Leon had gotten lost in the city while trying to find his way to the TV studio.

The city reappeared in Ooh Shiny!! Legendary Equipment, where Henry and Casey registered for the Gym Challenge at the Motostoke Stadium and visited the Budew Drop Inn, where they met Sonia, before departing to Turffield in Watch Out!! Strong Rivals.

Henry and Casey returned to Motostoke in PASS11 for their Gym battle against Kabu. After defeating him, they departed to Hammerlocke in the next round.
