Leech Seed (Japanese: やどりぎのタネ Mistletoe Seed) is a non-damaging Grass-type move introduced in Generation I.

Effect

Leech Seed plants a seed on the target.

Leech Seed is also part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Rototiller was used in the prior turn.

If powered up by a Grassium Z into Z-Leech Seed, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

Description

Leech Seed targets the enemy in front, inflicting them with Leech Seed status condition. The afflicted Pokémon loses 10 HPRBTDS / 5 HPGtISMD at the end of every second turn, and 10 HPRBTDS or 5 HPGtISMD will be returned to the Pokémon that inflicted the move. The status lasts for 11-12RBTDS / 6GtISMD turns, or if the Pokémon that used Leech Seed is defeated. Grass-type Pokémon cannot become affected by Leech Seed. This move is affected by Magic Coat.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Leech Seed is one of the random outcomes of Togepi's Metronome. All characters within the area of effect will receive a flower on their head that causes 5% damage every few seconds.

Pokémon Rumble Rush

In Pokémon Rumble Rush, all status moves including Leech Seed could only be used by opposing Pokémon and could not be obtained on any caught Pokémon. Leech Seed could be seen as a move used by opposing Sunkern.

Description

Games Description
MDRB Inflicts the Leech Seed status on the target. The target's HP is leeched every several turns to restore the user's HP.
MDTDS Afflicts the targeted enemy with a Leech Seed status condition. A Pokémon with the Leech Seed status loses some HP every few turns, which restores the user's HP by the same amount.

  • Though Leech Seed cannot affect Grass-type Pokémon in the games, Grass-type Pokémon have been affected in the anime.
  • Despite the origin of its Japanese name being a parasite that attaches itself to a host plant and absorbs nutrients, Leech Seed cannot affect Grass-type Pokémon.
