Pokémon world locations |
The Seafoam Islands (Japanese: ふたごじま Twin Islands) are a pair of islands that are situated on Route 20. The two islands are shaped the same, as if they were twins.
In the games
The caves beneath the islands are full of twists and turns and have five separate floors. To complete the trek through them, a series of puzzles involving using Strength to move boulders to block the flow of water need to be solved.
The Seafoam Islands is the only known roost of the Legendary Pokémon, Articuno. It's located on the very lowest floor of the caverns under the islands. It is also where Misty comes to train.
In Generation II, the destruction of Cinnabar Island causes Blaine to move his Gym to the Seafoam Islands.
In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Articuno can be found in the east cave while Blaine's Gym is located in the west cave. The Gym is much bigger than it's Generation II counterpart as it sports a brand new puzzle with junior trainers.

In the anime
The anime version of the Seafoam Islands is much more populated, and has a relatively large town. Ash goes there to train for the Indigo Plateau Conference where he meets Professor Westwood V, who is researching the evolution of Slowpoke. He also sees a surfer take the local challenge to plant a flag on a large rock sticking out of the ocean. Unlike the games, road/ground travel is possible by a bridge between the island and Fuchsia City. Ferries leave from here, and travel to Littleroot Town in the Hoenn region.
Later, Tracey and Ritchie go there to find Professor Oak after he is kidnapped at the TV Station.
