Bianca (Japanese: カノン Kanon) is a major character who appeared in Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias. She is the granddaughter of Lorenzo and the best friend of Latias, who has a tendency to shapeshift into her. Bianca has a hairstyle similar to Latias's wings, and can usually be identified from Latias's illusion by the white beret she wears.

Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias

Bianca first appeared in the museum, drawing some of the stain glass windows in the museum. Ash was distracted by her, since he previously saved Latias in the form of Bianca and believed she was the same girl he rescued. Wanting to know why she disappeared after he saved "her", Ash and Pikachu pursued her across Alto Mare, finally catching up to her on the other side of the bridge, but Bianca was confused by his questions and quickly left. Ash lost track of Bianca but instead followed Latias to the Secret Garden.

As Latios attacked Ash, Bianca appeared and believed Ash was trying to harm him. Lorenzo soon appeared and stopped the fighting. Bianca soon learned the truth and apologized for her actions, becoming friends with Ash after seeing Latias's attachment to him. She and her grandfather were later held hostage by Team Rocket operatives Annie and Oakley, who had captured Latios and the Soul Dew to power up the Defense Mechanism of Alto Mare. Bianca ordered Latios to use sight sharing to bring Ash and Latias to the museum. Bianca and Lorenzo were soon freed and helped save Latios from being tortured by the DMA. Latios and Latias later stopped the tsunami wave from hitting Alto Mare. The following morning, Bianca and others searched for the guardians. While Latias was soon located, she learned of Latios's sacrificial death to save the town and received the new Soul Dew.

Bianca's drawing

As Ash and his friends prepared to leave Alto Mare, Bianca was finishing a sketch of Ash and Pikachu. The drawing was later given to Ash by either Bianca, who had left her beret on her easel, or Latias in the form of Bianca: which remains the subject of ongoing debate. When Ash received the sketch, the girl kissed him. Bianca was seen again in the credits drawing another sketch by the harbor.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

Bianca reappeared in Ash and Latios, drawing a painting as Latios and Latias invisibly flew past.

Character

Having grown up with Latias and Latios, Bianca views them less as the town's guardians, and more like an extension of her family. Once she learned of Ash's good intentions, Bianca calmed down and grew close to him overtime. Bianca is also an extremely talented artist.

Main article: Latias (M05)

Latias and her brother, Latios, live in the Secret Garden in Alto Mare, where they are the guardians of the Soul Dew. They are friends with Lorenzo and Bianca, who takes care of them both and has kept them a secret since they were young. Latias is particularly close with Bianca, and often shapeshifts and walks around Alto Mare as Bianca.

Latias and Latios presented some very unique powers, such as sight sharing, invisibility, and shapeshifting.

Latios ordered Latias to escape to safety, while he was captured by Annie and Oakley and used to operate the DMA. Latios later sacrificed himself to save Alto Mare, leaving Latias in Lorenzo and Bianca's care.

Trivia

  • Bianca is referred to as Kanon, her Japanese name, on the Pokémon official site for Asia.
  • Bianca is the first major human character introduced in a movie to appear in the main anime series.
  • In an earlier trailer of the film, Bianca was seen to confront the DMA, which manifested an unknown human-arm shaped entity, and the Soul Dew was also seen to be activated in Bianca's hands.[1]
  • The background music used for the kiss scene is titled Canon which corresponds with Bianca's Japanese name.
  • Ash is supposed to be the only one to know the real identity of the girl who appeared at the pier, based on the difference in body temperatures between humans and Pokémon which was depicted during Annie and Oakley's hunt for Latias.
  • Interestingly, the girl that appeared at the pier was seen to be briefly out of breath; this is in contrast to Latias who did not show any sign of weariness when she (disguising as Bianca) and Ash were escaping from antagonists.
