Information

BREAKthrough is the name given to the eighth main expansion of the XY Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. In Japan, it was released as the Blue Shock and Red Flash dual expansions that make up the first expansion in the Pokémon Card Game XY BREAK Era. It is based on Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, featuring Generation VI Pokémon and the Genetic Pokémon Mewtwo. The English expansion was released on November 4, 2015, while the Japanese expansions were released on September 26, 2015.
BREAKthrough introduced Pokémon BREAK, a type of Pokémon. Pokémon BREAK are an additional type of Evolution. When in play, Pokémon BREAK are placed sideways over the artwork window of the existing Pokémon (of the same type of Pokémon), providing them with an HP boost and additional Abilities or attacks, while retaining the Abilities, attacks, Weaknesses, Resistances and Retreat Cost of the previous stage. There are no specific drawbacks when playing a Pokémon BREAK. Pokémon BREAK are printed horizontally. The Pokémon are featured in CGI and completely covered in gold, with sparks surrounding it, and a unique squared Holofoil pattern in the background. The illustration covers almost the entire card.
