Charmeleon (Japanese: リザード Lizardo) is a Fire Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Charmeleon is a bipedal, reptile Pokémon. It has dark red scales and a cream underside from the chest down. It has blue eyes and a long snout with a slightly hooked tip. On the back of its head is a single horn-like protrusion. It has relatively long arms with three sharp claws. Its short legs have plantigrade feet with three claws and cream-colored soles. The tip of its long, powerful tail has a flame burning on it. The temperature rises to unbearable levels if Charmeleon swings its tail.
Charmeleon is a bipedal, reptilian creature similar to Charmander. It has crimson scales that are much darker than that of the bright orange Charmander. It has a tail with the tip burning with fire, a trait seen in many Fire Pokémon, especially the Charmander evolutionary line. Its skull has developed a horn-like protrusion to the rear and its mouth has elongated into a snout. Its front and back claws are far sharper and longer than Charmander.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Charmeleon can Flamethrower. This fire is much hotter than Charmander's. This is a result of a larger flame burning at the tip of its tail than that of Charmander's.

It possesses incredibly large claws which it utilizes in its powerful Slash attack. Its tail is also very powerful, having enough strength to lift an adult man.
Charmeleon has a vicious, hotheaded nature and will constantly seek out opponents. Strong opponents excite this Pokémon, causing it to spout bluish-white flames that torch its surroundings. Charmeleon enjoys tormenting the opponents it fights. However, it will relax once it has won a battle. It is rare in the wild but can be found in List of Pokémon by habitat. As shown in Pokémon Sleep, Charmleon is known to sleep with a laid-back posture, using its hands as a pillow. Its fierce fervor disappears when it sleeps.

Behavior
Evolution
Charmeleon tend to be stubborn, bad-tempered, and simply hot-headed. Due to their incredible power at such a low level, they can easily feel they are better than their trainers and will sometimes disregard attack commands. When tame, however, they are a formidable opponent and a loyal partner. Wild Charmeleon are ready to evolve when they begin to travel in different areas battling random opponents, and the flames on their tails begin to flash larger.
Charmeleon evolves from Charmander and evolves into Charizard.

Habitat
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data&rarr;Evolution data.)

<div style="float:center; display:flex; flex-flow:row wrap;">
Charmeleon are rare in the wild, but thrive in harsh environments such as craggy mountains and active volcanoes. Charmeleon also dwell in large numbers in abandoned mines and heated valleys. It is most likely to be found in Kanto.

Charmeleon debuts in Onix is On!, part of the Red, Green & Blue, battling in the Pewter Gym as one of Blue's Pokémon. It evolved from Charmander sometime between The Secret of Kangaskhan and this round. It has since evolved into Charizard with Blue's harsh training, and became even more powerful, assisting in the defeat of both the Team Rocket triads Koga and Sabrina, and continued to act as the powerhouse for both Blue and Red, in the two times it was (temporarily) traded to him since then.

Trivia
Trivia
* Charmeleon and Charizard share the same species name as Flareon, Moltres, and Infernape. They are all known as Flame Pokémon.
* In English, the category "Flame Pokémon" is shared by Charmeleon, Charizard, Flareon, Kantonian Moltres, and Infernape.
* Charmeleon is one of the two members of a Generation I evolution family of a starter Pokémon not to have appeared in the Super Smash Bros. series. The other member is Wartortle.
** In Japanese, Flareon has the category ほのおポケモン Honō Pokémon (Flame Pokémon), while the other four Pokémon share the category かえんポケモン Kaen Pokémon (Flame Pokémon).
* Charmeleon and its evolution family are the only Pokémon who have flames as part of their bodies that do not go out naturally (with the Pokémon still being alive).
* Charmeleon, Quilava, and their respective evolutionary lines have exactly the same base stats in the same distribution.
** However, in the console games, if the Pokémon is afflicted by a freeze, its flame will effectively stop burning.
* In Generation IX, Charmeleon and its evolved form are unable to learn Metal Claw via TM, but its pre-evolved form can.
* In Generation I, Charmeleon is capable of learning Leer. However, in Generation II and onwards, this move is replaced by Scary Face.
** Similarly, Charmeleon cannot learn Fire Spin by level up, while its evolutionary relatives can.
* Curiously, Charmeleon can learn Metal Claw via leveling up in FireRed and LeafGreen, but in Generation IV it can only learn it as an egg move.

Origin
Origin
Charmeleon resembles a small dinosaur with remnants of Charmander's salamander-like appearance. Although its nomenclature suggests commonality with the chameleon, Charmeleon exhibits very few of the major physiologically distinguishing traits of the chameleon. Charmeleon hasn't the specialized Dactyly#Zygodactyly feet, separately mobile eyes, extrudable tongue, or the ability to Chameleon#Change of color like some members of the chameleon species. The few characteristics it does share are the similarly looking snout, a prominent head crest (which resembles a small horn in its Generation I back sprite), and extensive use of its tail. Chameleons have prehensile tails used for climbing and grasping, while Charmeleon utilizes its tail as a weapon.
Charmeleon may be based on lizards, as its name suggests. It could also be based on Legendary salamander in popular culture, as samalanders and lizards are very similar. The crest on its head resembles that of the dinosaur Parasaurolophus.

Name origin
Name origin
Charmeleon's name is a portmanteau of the word char, to burn, and chameleon. Its Japanese name is a corruption of the Katakana spelling of lizard.
Charmeleon may be a combination of char (to burn) and chameleon.

Lizardo may be derived from the transcription of the English word lizard.

Charmeleon (Japanese: リザード Lizardo) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Charmander starting at level 16 and evolves into Charizard starting at level 36.

Biology

Charmeleon is a bipedal, reptilian Pokémon.

It is rare in the wild but can be found in mountainous areas. As shown in Pokémon Sleep, Charmleon is known to sleep with a laid-back posture, using its hands as a pillow.[1] Its fierce fervor disappears when it sleeps.

Evolution

Charmeleon evolves from Charmander and evolves into Charizard.

    • In Japanese, Flareon has the category ほのおポケモン Honō Pokémon (Flame Pokémon), while the other four Pokémon share the category かえんポケモン Kaen Pokémon (Flame Pokémon).
  • Charmeleon, Quilava, and their respective evolutionary lines have exactly the same base stats in the same distribution.
  • In Generation IX, Charmeleon and its evolved form are unable to learn Metal Claw via TM, but its pre-evolved form can.
    • Similarly, Charmeleon cannot learn Fire Spin by level up, while its evolutionary relatives can.

Origin

Charmeleon may be based on lizards, as its name suggests. It could also be based on mythical fire salamander, as samalanders and lizards are very similar. The crest on its head resembles that of the dinosaur Parasaurolophus.

Name origin

Charmeleon may be a combination of char (to burn) and chameleon.

Lizardo may be derived from the transcription of the English word lizard.
