Ivysaur (Japanese: フシギソウ Fushigisou) is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon.

}}
Ivysaur (Japanese: フシギソウ Fushigisou) is a dual-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

Ivysaur comes with the Ability Overgrow, which increases the power of Grass-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.
It evolves from Bulbasaur starting at level 16 and evolves into Venusaur starting at level 32.

Ivysaur evolves from Bulbasaur starting at Level 16 and evolves into Venusaur starting at Level 32.
Biology
Ivysaur is a quadrupedal amphibian Pokémon that has blue-green skin with darker patches. On top of its head are pointed ears with black insides, and it has narrow red eyes. Ivysaur has a short, rounded snout with a wide mouth and two pointed teeth in its upper jaw. Each of its feet has three claws on them. The bulb on its back has bloomed into a giant pink bud. A short brown trunk surrounded by leafy green fronds supports the bud.

Biology
The weight of the plant prevents Ivysaur from running fast and standing on its hind legs, forcing its legs to grow sturdy. When its flower is ready to bloom, it gives off a distinct, sweet-smelling aroma and starts swelling. Ivysaur will also start spending more time in sunlight in preparation for its upcoming evolution. Exposure to sunlight adds to the strength of both Ivysaur and its plant. As shown in Pokémon Sleep, Ivysaur is known to sleep in sunny spots while undergoing its photosynthesis process. Researchers cannot decide if Ivysaur is awake or asleep during this process. Ivysaur are typically found in List of Pokémon by habitat.
Physiology
Evolution
Ivysaur, like its younger form Bulbasaur, resembles a toad or a dinosaur, though the patches in its skin make it look more like a dinosaur. It has lost the ability to stand on two legs since the bulb on its back has blossomed. After evolving from Bulbasaur, Ivysaur grows small fangs. When its plant is ready to bloom, it gives off a distinct aroma.
Ivysaur evolves from Bulbasaur and evolves into Venusaur.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Much like its previous form, most of Ivysaur's abilities originate from the plant on it's back.  Naturally, these attacks are stronger than Bulbasaur's.

Being much more commonly found in captivity then in the wild, Ivysaur's natural behaviour is still largely unknown, but it can be theorized that they are a bit more aggressive then Bulbasaur, although it is still very loyal to it's trainer.

Ivysaur first appeared in Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden. Numerous Bulbasaur were seen evolving into them.
Pokémon caught in Generation I must be traded to a Generation II game in order for a held item to appear.

A trainer named Asunta used an Ivysaur to battle and defeat Ritchie in Friends to the End.

"A Seed Pokémon that is the evolved form of Bulbasaur. It has a flower bulb on its back, the weight of which has made it develop strong legs and hips. =Trivia=
Fushigisou may be a combination of 不思議 fushigi (strange; mysterious) and (grass), as well as a pun of the phrase 不思議そう Fushigi sō ("It seems strange").
* Although the Pokédex says it cannot go on its back legs, its Pokédex image in Pokémon Red and Blue shows it standing upright.
<!--*In Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Ivysaur is the only Pokémon that Pokémon Trainer uses that doesn't use an HM move (Squirtle uses Waterfall and Charizard uses Rock Smash).-->
Origin
Ivysaur appears to be similar to a dinosaur and may be based off of one.  The saur in its English name supports this, since dinosaur names often have saur suffixed.
Name origin
Ivysaur's name is a combination of the words ivy and saur, which is Greek for lizard. Its Japanese name can be taken to mean it seems strange, or 不思議 草 fushigi sou strange grass.

Ivysaur (Japanese: フシギソウ Fushigisou) is a dual-type Grass/Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Bulbasaur starting at level 16 and evolves into Venusaur starting at level 32.

Ivysaur are typically found in plains.

Evolution

Ivysaur evolves from Bulbasaur and evolves into Venusaur.

Trophy information

"A Seed Pokémon that is the evolved form of Bulbasaur. It has a flower bulb on its back, the weight of which has made it develop strong legs and hips. If the blossom gets too big, it can't stand on two legs alone. At a certain level, it evolves into Venusaur. When this happens, the bulb absorbs nutrients and blossoms into a large-petaled flower."

Trivia

Origin

Ivysaur's evolutionary line is inspired by frogs.[1] In particular, its short legs, stout appearance, and ear-like protrusions on its head make it resemble horned frogs. Of its evolutionary line, Ivysaur was the first to be created, years before Bulbasaur, Venusaur or the concept of evolution was conceived, as it was one of the original monsters created for the Capsule Monsters pitch.[2] Venusaur and Bulbasaur's designs were created afterward; the latter was created by Atsuko Nishida by basing it off of Venusaur.[1]

The bud on its back resembles a Rafflesia flower, and the leaves around the bud resemble palms.

Name origin

Ivysaur may be a combination of ivy (woody climbing or trailing plant genus) and dinosaur, and may also incorporate poison ivy (referring to its Grass/Poison-type designation).

Fushigisou may be a combination of 不思議 fushigi (strange; mysterious) and 草 (grass), as well as a pun of the phrase 不思議そう Fushigi sō ("It seems strange").
