Location Location of Snowpoint City in Sinnoh.

Snowpoint City (Japanese: キッサキシティ Kissaki City) is a snow-covered city located at the far north of Sinnoh, where snow blows down from the top of Mount Coronet, causing low temperatures. Snowpoint City and the three routes that lead to it (Route 216, Route 217, and Acuity Lakefront) are also completely covered in snow. There is a port here from which the player can board the S.S. Sinnoh (known as S.S. Spiral in Pokémon Platinum) to access the Fight Area at the Battle Zone, but only after entering the Hall of Fame. Its temple is home to the Legendary Pokémon Regigigas. There is also a Move Tutor in Snowpoint in Pokémon Platinum.

In Sinnoh's past, when it was known as Hisui, Snowpoint City was a small village known as the Pearl Settlement, the home of the Pearl Clan.

The Snowpoint Temple

Although Snowpoint City is not home to much, a noticeable landmark in the area is Snowpoint Temple, which can only be accessed after the player has entered the Hall of Fame. The temple contains five floors, with odd bits of slippery ice. At the very bottom of the temple lies a dormant Regigigas. To awaken this Legendary Pokémon, the player must bring all three of the original legendary giants along with them. In Generation IV, they are all only available normally in the Generation III games. Through an event Regigigas, the legendary giants can also be obtained in Platinum and will activate the in-game Regigigas. In Generation VIII, the three giants are available at Ramanas Park.

Northeast house

Snowpoint's north-easternmost house is home to the place where trendy phrases are obtained. Every day, players can go to the farthest house in the northeast and receive a new trendy phrase. A trendy phrase is an additional phrase which can be used in the easy chat system. It appears in the "Tough Words" category. There are thirty-two different possibilities, all obtainable from an elderly man in the northeasternmost house in the city. Only one may be obtained daily, and receiving a new trendy phrase will not alter any game mechanics. They typically refer to science, business and the arts.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the man will no longer provide trendy phrases as this feature is no longer present.

In-game trade

In the north-westernmost house, a girl will trade a Haunter holding an Everstone (which prevents it from evolving into Gengar) for a Medicham. The Haunter is nicknamed "Gaspar" and the OT is "Mindy". The Haunter's ID number is 19248.

Diamond dust

On January 10, 2008, Junichi Masuda posted a blog entry urging players to play their Diamond or Pearl on January 12. On that day, the same day as Masuda's birthday, a weather effect called diamond dust occurred in Snowpoint City, replacing the usual snow. It resembles glitter in the air. It is purely aesthetic, since it only occurs within the city where no battles are possible.

Snowpoint Gym

Main article: Snowpoint Gym

The Snowpoint Gym is the official Gym of Snowpoint City. It is based on Ice-type Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Candice. Trainers who defeat her receive the Icicle Badge. The Snowpoint City Gym is a Gym consisting of a three-tier ice rink with slides connecting the various tiers and snowballs blocking progress through the Gym. To reach the Gym Leader, Trainers have to slide around the Gym and destroy the balls of snow blocking the way. For defeating Candice, Trainers receive the Icicle Badge, TM72 (Avalanche), and the ability to use Rock Climb outside of battle.

Snowpoint City in Pokémon Journeys: The Series

Snowpoint City was first mentioned in Our Cup Runneth Over!, when Ash was informed that someone had contacted him from there. It was later revealed that May had placed a call to him from there; after coming to Sinnoh to compete in the Wallace Cup, she decided to stop by Snowpoint City first to evolve her Eevee into Glaceon in front of an Ice Rock that was located near the city.

Ash and his friends first arrived in Snowpoint City in Classroom Training!, with Ash intending to challenge the local Gym Leader, Candice. However, before their battle, Ash spent some time at the Snowpoint Trainers' School where Candice teaches. In the next episode, Ash defeated Candice and earned himself the Icicle Badge, his seventh Sinnoh League Badge.

Just as Ash finished his battle with Candice, his rival Paul arrived, wanting to challenge Candice for the Icicle Badge as well. Before he could do so, however, the Battle Pyramid flew into Snowpoint City, and Paul battled Pyramid King Brandon to see if he could win against the one Kanto Frontier Brain his brother Reggie had failed to defeat. Their battle took place in A Pyramiding Rage!, and just like his brother, Paul lost to Brandon, being unable to defeat a single one his legendary giants.

Following Paul's battle, in Pillars of Friendship!, it was discovered that Pokémon Hunter J had broken into Snowpoint Temple in an attempt to steal the Regigigas that lives there. According to legend, long ago, there had been a violent volcanic eruption that had turned the once-beautiful Snowpoint Forest into a sea of lava. Out of a bright blue light, Regigigas had appeared with the legendary giants and the four had stopped the volcanic eruption, saving Snowpoint City. Afterwards, Regigigas had gone into a deep sleep in the Snowpoint Temple, protected by Regirock, Regice, and Registeel, who had transformed into guardian pillars. In the end, J was defeated, but the temple was nearly destroyed in the battle. Brandon left his three giants behind as protectors and promised to rebuild the temple.

In Yes in Dee Dee, It's Dawn!, Zoey and Candice were seen watching Dawn's Double Performance in the Daybreak Town Pokémon Contest on television in Snowpoint City. In A Grand Fight for Winning!, Candice, Jeremiah, and other students watched the Contest Battle between Dawn and Zoey in the finals of the Sinnoh Grand Festival. After the competition, Zoey headed back to Snowpoint, where Candice was throwing a party in celebration of her fulfilling her goal of becoming a Top Coordinator.

Throughout their time in Snowpoint City, Ash and his friends wore winter clothing, which they received earlier from Johanna in Battling a Cute Drama!.

In The Sinnoh Iceberg Race!, Ash and Goh traveled to Snowpoint City to return a Piplup that had swam all the way to Vermilion City to its Trainer, Lauren. During this visit, Goh caught a Mantyke, and both Ash and Goh took part in the annual Pokémon Iceberg Race, although the race was later cancelled following an interruption by Team Rocket.

In addition to Candice, Snowpoint City is also the hometown of Zoey. According to Nurse Joy, it is the northernmost city in Sinnoh.

Snowpoint City appeared in the Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl: Regigigas Major Capture Operation!! manga, where Kaito, Yuki, and Kento gathered there, awakening and eventually catching Regigigas at the Snowpoint Temple.

Snowpoint City first appeared in Striking Out Snover, where Platinum arrived there with Maylene in the hopes of talking with Candice about protecting Mesprit from Team Galactic at Lake Acuity. However, she first had to defeat her at the Snowpoint Gym before she could do so. After Platinum had defeated Candice and earned the Icicle Badge from her in To and Fro with Froslass, Candice joined Platinum and Maylene and headed to Lake Acuity with them.

In Bogging Down Quagsire, after Platinum, Candice, and Maylene had been thoroughly defeated by Commander Jupiter, Platinum carried the two unconscious Gym Leaders to the Snowpoint Temple for shelter, before passing out as well. In Encountering Elekid, she woke up at the Snowpoint City Pokémon Center and was greeted by Candice and Maylene. Realizing that their enemy was way too strong for them, they called Byron and told him to ask someone to train with them so they would be stronger next time.

Snowpoint City first appeared in A Novel Test!!, where Hareta arrived there and was met by Candice, who decided to put him into a test to see if he was strong enough to face Team Galactic. The test was a Double Battle, with Hareta facing Candice's legendary giants with Luxio and Riolu. While it seemed for a moment that Hareta was about to lose, he was able to make a comeback when Riolu suddenly evolved into Lucario and defeated both of Candice's Pokémon. Impressed by this, Candice then took Hareta to the Snowpoint Temple, where she used the legendary giants to awaken Regigigas. After a battle with Regigigas, Hareta managed to convince it to come with him.

Trivia

• Snowpoint is home to the northernmost point of access in the games — the entrance of Snowpoint Temple is very slightly north of the northernmost point that can be accessed in the Flower Paradise.
• Snowpoint is the first city or town that is connected to another location that does not connect directly to a route; before reaching a route one must pass through Acuity Lakefront first.
• Because of the snow, Snowpoint is one of two cities or towns where bicycles cannot be ridden, though the only one in Sinnoh. The other is Pacifidlog Town in Hoenn.
• Snowpoint gets its name from the Snowpoint Temple, rather then the temple being named after the city, as revealed in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
• Snowpoint is similar to Mahogany Town in Johto and Icirrus City in Unova. All three have the 7th Gym to their regions which are all Ice type. They are also near a lake (Snowpoint is near Lake Acuity, whereas Mahogany Town is near the Lake of Rage, and Icirrus City has several lakes surrounding the city.) All places are also near a location that has something to do with snow, hail, or ice (Snowpoint is near the Acuity Lakefront, where it's always snowing; Mahogany Town is near the Ice Path; Icirrus City experiences snowfalls in the winter time.)
• The traversable area of Snowpoint City is shaped like a snowflake when viewed from above.
  • Snowpoint's snowflake shape, however, has eight points. Because of the properties of water molecules, real snowflakes only ever have six points or sides.
