===Origin===
===Origin===
Cetitan appears to be based on various {{wp|Arctic}} cetaceans. Its general appearance and shape may be based on the {{wp|bowhead whale}} (also known as the polar whale or the icewhale), its white coloration and large head may be inspired by the {{wp|beluga}}, and its horns may draw inspiration from the {{wp|narwhal}}. Cetitan's horns may also be inspired by the bumps on the head of the {{wp|humpback whale}}, which is not native to the Arctic but is related to the bowhead, on account of them both being {{wp|baleen whale}}s.
Cetitan appears to be based on various species of {{wp|cetacean}}s, especially the {{wp|right whale}}. Like Cetitan, right whales have highly arched mouths, round bodies without a dorsal fin, and torsos without ventral grooves. Cetitan's horns resemble the callosities (thick, hardened patches of skin) on the heads of right whales.

A notable species for inspiration might be the {{wp|North Atlantic right whale}}, whose scientific name, ''Eubalaena glacialis'', means "true whale of ice", corresponding to Cetitan's type. Cetitan debuted in the [[Paldea]] [[region]]; the real-world inspiration for Paldea, the {{wp|Iberian Peninsula}}, is known for its {{wp|History of Basque whaling|history}} of {{wp|whaling}} of North Atlantic right whales — especially by its indigenous {{wp|Basque people}} — for their blubber and meat, causing their near-extinction.

Cetitan may also draw inspiration from the ニンゲン ''{{wp|Ningen (folklore)|ningen}}'', which are bipedal, whale-like cryptids of modern Japanese folklore.
Cetitan also resembles the {{wp|bowhead whale}}, a close relative of the right whale. The bowhead whale lives in the {{wp|Arctic}}, and is also known as the "polar whale" or the "icewhale". Other Arctic cetaceans may also have inspired the Pokémon; Cetitan's white coloration and large head may be inspired by the {{wp|beluga}}, and its horns may draw inspiration from the {{wp|narwhal}}.

Cetitan (Japanese: ハルクジラ Hulkujira) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

It evolves from Cetoddle when exposed to an Ice Stone.

Biology

Cetitan with its mouth open

Cetitan is a large cetacean Pokémon. It has a white piscine body with large forelimbs and legs, and pink accents around its eyes, forepaws, and tail. The tail has two pairs of fins protruding from either side. Cetitan also has a gray underside with circular white accents, as well as gray accents on its armpits, and two large gray claws on each foot. It has five horns: two on the top of its head, and three around its large, wavy mouth. The singular horn on its upper jaw allows it to gather ice energy and freeze its surroundings.[1] When Cetitan opens its mouth, rows of long, teeth-like plates can be seen lining its jaws.

Cetitan has tough muscles, which allow it to support its weight and attack with immense physical power. It also has a thick layer of subcutaneous fat, which helps it migrate around snowy areas.[1] It lives in pods and shares habitats with Avalugg. As mentioned in Breathe Out, in Paldea, Cetitan mainly live on top of Glaseado Mountain, and their main diet consists of snow and ice. It's also mentioned that Cetitan can use echolocation to find and communicate with others of its kind through sound waves, and that the sounds it makes is said to be similar to that of a flute. In HZ063, Cetitan is shown to be able to slide around ice and snow on its belly to move faster across said terrain.

Cetitan and its pre-evolved form, Cetoddle, are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Ice Spinner by leveling up.

Cetitan main its main series debut in HZ063, under the ownership of Grusha. He used it in Liko's Terastal Training Implementation battle against him, taking on her Floragato and Hattrem, beating the latter before being recalled for Altaria.

Minor appearances

Pokémon: Paldean Winds

Trivia

  • Cetitan is the tallest Ice-type Pokémon.
  • Cetitan has the highest base HP stat of all Ice-type Pokémon.
  • Cetitan has the longest cry of any Pokémon, being 4.007 seconds long.
  • Cetitan and its pre-evolution were designed by Yusuke Kozaki.[2]

Origin

Cetitan appears to be based on various species of cetaceans, especially the right whale. Like Cetitan, right whales have highly arched mouths, round bodies without a dorsal fin, and torsos without ventral grooves. Cetitan's horns resemble the callosities (thick, hardened patches of skin) on the heads of right whales.

A notable species for inspiration might be the North Atlantic right whale, whose scientific name, Eubalaena glacialis, means "true whale of ice", corresponding to Cetitan's type. Cetitan debuted in the Paldea region; the real-world inspiration for Paldea, the Iberian Peninsula, is known for its history of whaling of North Atlantic right whales — especially by its indigenous Basque people — for their blubber and meat, causing their near-extinction.

Cetitan also resembles the bowhead whale, a close relative of the right whale. The bowhead whale lives in the Arctic, and is also known as the "polar whale" or the "icewhale". Other Arctic cetaceans may also have inspired the Pokémon; Cetitan's white coloration and large head may be inspired by the beluga, and its horns may draw inspiration from the narwhal.

Name origin

Cetitan may be a combination of cetacean or Cetus (a sea monster in Greek mythology whose name became the etymology for the word cetacean) and titan.

Hulkujira may be a combination of hulk, 歩く aruku (to walk), and 鯨 kujira (whale). It may be a pun on 歯鯨 hakujira (toothed whale).
