Beachside Rivalry (Japanese: 海の家のライバル対決！) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Gloria (Summer 2021) & Inteleon and Marnie (Summer 2021) & Grimmsnarl.

During this event, players could earn Fizzy Ice Pops and Tropical Juice from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra items were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.

In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.

First run

The event first ran from July 15 to 31, 2021. The "Gloria Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Gloria (Summer 2021) & Inteleon for the duration of the event, and the "Marnie Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Marnie (Summer 2021) & Grimmsnarl starting on July 17, 2021 and lasting until the end of the event.

Players had a chance to obtain access to the special area Bountiful Bonus Battle 1 when completing one of the Challenge Team Break areas or Daily Extreme Battle 1; this area could only be played once before it had to be unlocked again.

The player could battle using Gloria (Summer 2021) & Inteleon or Marnie (Summer 2021) & Grimmsnarl to obtain +0.6× bonus items; Steven (Summer 2020) & Sandslash, Lyra (Summer 2020) & Jigglypuff, or Mallow & Tsareena to obtain +0.4× bonus items; and Misty & Starmie, Barry & Piplup/Prinplup/Empoleon, or Valerie & Sylveon to obtain +0.2× bonus items.

Second run

The event reran from July 4 to 18, 2022. The "Super Spotlight Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Gloria (Summer 2021) & Inteleon, Marnie (Summer 2021) & Grimmsnarl, Steven (Summer 2020) & Sandslash, and Lyra (Summer 2020) & Jigglypuff for the duration of the event.

The player could battle using Gloria (Summer 2021) & Inteleon or Marnie (Summer 2021) & Grimmsnarl to obtain +0.6× bonus items; Steven (Summer 2020) & Sandslash, Lyra (Summer 2020) & Jigglypuff, N (Summer 2022) & Zoroark, or Hilda (Summer 2022) & Grapploct to obtain +0.4× bonus items; and any other unlisted Water- or Fairy-type sync pair to obtain +0.2× bonus items.

If you're running a business, there's always going to be some competition to get customers. But if you stop to help every single store that runs into problems along the way, you might get run out of business yourself! And even if that Team Break pop-up gets its customers back, that's just temporary. It might not last forever!
Gloria	I know what you mean, Mallow. But I think I understand Marnie's feelings, too. How so?: Because we're both from Galar...and we're each other's rival! Yeah! Because you're rivals!: Yup! We're both from Galar, and we're each other's rival! That's why I think I understand where she's coming from. I know that those Team Break members were doing something wrong. But I think they really were doing their best to make their pop-up succeed! I bet that reminded Marnie of the people back in Spikemuth. She loves them a lot, and they're quite similar to Team Break, if you think about it! So of course she would offer to help them out! I love how kind she is!

Marley	"You can't force a smile." "You can find other ways to get more customers. Ways that are better suited for you!" Gloria told me to tell you that.
Marnie	Gloria? Even though I'm the one who challenged her?

Marnie	I only thought of it 'cause of your advice, Gloria. Y'know how everyone in Galar loves to watch a proper match between Dynamax Pokémon? My big bro and I have always tried to show everyone that even if ya can't Dynamax, ya can still have really amazin' battles. I remembered that...an' it inspired me to set that all up!
Gloria	Are you going to help them out again tomorrow?
