Travelers from a Distant Past (Japanese: 遠い過去からの旅人たち Travelers from a Distant Past) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Adaman & Leafeon and Irida & Glaceon.

The "Adaman Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Adaman & Leafeon from the beginning of the event to July 10, 2023, and the "Irida Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Irida & Glaceon from June 2, 2023, to July 10, 2023. A special splash screen featuring artwork of Adaman, Irida, Leafeon, and Glaceon appeared while starting up the game for the duration of these scouts.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers Q from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Adaman & Leafeon or Irida & Glaceon to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Dawn & Turtwig/Grotle/Torterra or Lucas & Dialga to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted Sinnoh sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.

In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.

Plot

Dawn comes to talk to Professor Bellis about a rift that recently appeared in the sky. Lucas, who was already talking to the professor, says that Dialga has been acting weird since the phenomenon was first reported. This reminds Dawn that she heard about some people in town making a fuss about Dialga and Palkia, so she and Lucas decide to go investigate.

In the town, two unidentified individuals are arguing in front of a crowd. One of them insists that they have come to future, so this is a trial from mighty Dialga; the other insists that they have come to a faraway country, so it is a trial from mighty Palkia. When Lucas and Dawn arrive, the people arguing notice them and run over to them. Believing the two are Rei and Akari, they express their relief at seeing familiar faces and wonder why they changed their clothes. When Dawn and Lucas still do not recognize them, they realize that Dawn and Lucas are not Rei and Akari, so they introduce themselves as Irida and Adaman from Hisui. Lucas recognizes the name from books in the Canalave Library and Professor Rowan's research materials, so he realizes that these two have come from ancient Sinnoh. When he shares this realization with them, Adaman smugly says that he was right about them being in the future and that it is a trial from Dialga. Dawn and Lucas ask him what he means by that, and Adaman explains that the Diamond Clan worships Dialga, controller of time. Irida chimes in that the Pearl Clan worships Palkia, controller of space. Lucas asks if they met up with Dialga before coming here, but they admit that they cannot remember. Adaman and Irida then muse that they never thought they would be the ones traveling to an unknown world in a distant time, and they explain how that happened to people back in Hisui. Adaman realizes that they came here the same way, through a rift, and Lucas and Dawn realize that it is the same rift that Professor Bellis had mentioned.

Lucas, Dawn, Adaman, and Irida head to the forest to investigate the rift. Professor Bellis shows up, and after catching her up, she informs them that strange phenomena have been occurring across Pasio that cause lots of wild Pokémon to appear. Adaman and Irida realize that they are space-time distortions, and they explain what space-time distortions are. Professor Bellis says that the distortions on Pasio are not showing signs of dissipating, which Adaman says is dangerous. Lucas and Dawn do not see why it would be dangerous, so Adaman and Irida explain why Pokémon were feared back in Hisui. Professor Bellis then gets a phone call informing her that someone was attacked by wild Pokémon in a distortion, making the whole group realize the gravity of the situation. Adaman and Irida recall that Dialga and Palkia were a major cause of the rift in Hisui, so Irida hypothesizes that the disturbances on Pasio are connected to the two Legendary Pokémon. Lucas says that they can get Dialga to help them; he sends out his Dialga, shocking Adaman and Irida. Irida then asks if they can ask Palkia for help, too. Lucas and Dawn are reluctant to, but eventually realize it is worth a try, so they decide to go find Cyrus of Team Galactic.

As the group approaches Team Galactic's hideout, Adaman and Irida are confident that the group will help them, assuming they are the Galaxy Team. When a pair of Team Galactic grunts appear, Adaman and Irida are shocked by their bizarre outfits. Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter then appear, and Dawn and Lucas explain why they have come. The Team Galactic commanders agree to let the group talk to Cyrus, since they have been inconvenienced by the space-time distortions, too. Upon arriving in Cyrus's room, he immediately says that he will not help them, confusing Adaman and Irida. When Cyrus says Team Galactic's goal is to create a perfect world, they finally realize that Team Galactic is different than the Galaxy Team. Lucas's Dialga suddenly lets itself out of its Poké Ball, and Dialga and Palkia begin talking to Adaman and Irida telepathically. Dialga and Palkia say that they have to work together using the power of time and space to stop the space-time distortion from spreading. Cyrus comments that this coincides with some of Team Galactic's research, and he finally agrees to assist them in order to support his hypothesis about why the distortions are happening.

They split up into two groups: Cyrus, Dawn, Irida, and the Team Galactic commanders are on one side of the distortion, where Palkia is applying force to it; and Lucas and Adaman are on the opposite side of the distortion, where Dialga is applying force to it. However, their efforts do not seem to be working. Suddenly, they realize the distortion has stopped growing and is showing signs of dissipating. Irida gives Palkia all the credit, but Cyrus realizes that there was a third power that helped them stop the distortion. In the ruins with Giratina, Barry celebrates their success, while Cynthia says that she has lots of questions for Adaman and Irida. The distortion finally dissipates completely, and Lucas thanks Dialga for its help. Adaman notes that people and Pokémon have once again joined and saved the world. Later, Professor Bellis informs everyone that the rift is still open and space-time distortions are still forming, but they are not as dangerous as the previous one. Adaman and Irida promise to help if anything bad happens again, which surprises Lucas and Dawn, who thought they wanted to get back home as soon as possible. Adaman and Irida do not know how, so they have decided to stay on Pasio to take care of other people and Pokémon from Hisui that come to the island. They have even put Leafeon and Glaceon in Poké Balls so they can form sync pairs and show other Hisuians how people and Pokémon can live together in harmony. With their decision made, Adaman declares that they can all help each other out from now on.

Lucas	Dialga's been acting weird since last night, when the phenomenon was first reported. I wonder what's going on...

Irida	By the way... The Pearl Clan, which I lead, worships mighty Palkia, who controls space. I was so sure it was mighty Palkia who led us to this distant, foreign land, by manipulating space!
Lucas	So...before you got here, did the two of you meet up with Dialga?
Adaman	Now that you mention it, I don't remember. Actually, Irida and I are fuzzy on what happened just before and after we arrived here.
Dawn	If that's the case, it'll be hard to tell if this was really Dialga's doing.
Irida	I agree. It's still too early to draw any conclusions.
Adaman	Traveling to an unknown world in a distant time... I never thought it would happen to us.
Irida	Me neither. Not even an inkling.
Dawn	What do you mean?
Irida	Back in Hisui, where we were before... There were some people who went through what we are now.
Adaman	Apparently, they suddenly fell from the sky one day. And if I remember correctly... That's it! It was from a rift! There was a rift when we showed up here, too!
Irida	Right! Why didn't I realize it sooner! I'm such a fool!
Lucas	Oh, so if you came from a rift, that must mean...

Professor Bellis	Are those two the ones everyone's been talking about?
Dawn	Yes! Their names are Adaman and Irida!
(Adaman and Irida explain their situation to Professor Bellis)
Lucas	Professor, have you learned anything new?
Professor Bellis	Yes, but I have some bad news. Strange phenomena, including this rift, have been occurring across Pasio... And it seems a lot of wild Pokémon are suddenly appearing where these phenomena are occurring.
Adaman	Do you think this could be...
Irida	It's a space-time distortion.
Lucas	Oh, you know something about it?
Adaman	Yeah. It's a dangerous phenomenon that sometimes occurred back in Hisui. An unusual amount of wild Pokémon start to appear within the area it affects.
Irida	We don't know when or where a distortion will appear, but the ones in Hisui would always naturally dissipate after a while.
Dawn	Does that mean the ones on Pasio will, too?
Professor Bellis	No, I'm afraid the ones on Pasio... aren't showing signs of disappearing. In fact, they're getting bigger.
(Lucas and Dawn are shocked)
Adaman	That's...dangerous.
Lucas	Dangerous? I know there haven't been any wild Pokémon on Pasio before...
Dawn	But if it's just a lot of Pokémon showing up, that's not exactly scary, right?
Irida	... ... ...
Adaman	I see. So that's how you perceive it.
Irida	We don't keep our Pokémon in balls... Do you know why?
Lucas	If I remember correctly...back in the time of Hisui, Poké Balls weren't very common, right?
Adaman	Correct. Only some folks use Poké Balls.
Irida	In the time we're from, aside from those raised among humans... Pokémon are considered dangerous, frightening creatures that shouldn't be underestimated.

Professor Bellis	Hello? Bellis speaking. What?! Thanks. We'll be careful.

Mars	This could benefit Master Cyrus, so we'll hear you out. But don't you dare try anything funny!
(Transition to Team Galactic's hideout; Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Lucas, Dawn, Irida, and Adaman approach Cyrus and Palkia)
Dawn	Um, so the reason why we're here is—
Cyrus	You don't need to explain. I already know why you're here. However, I have no intention of cooperating with the likes of you.
Adaman	Hey, hold on a second... The Galaxy Team's mission is for people and Pokémon to coexist for the peace and safety of the world, right?
Cyrus	I don't know what organization you're mistaking us for, but Team Galactic has one mission— to create a perfect world.
Irida	I guess Team Galactic is different from the Galaxy Team we know.
Cyrus	If you're hoping for goodwill, leave now. You won't find such ambiguous things here.
Irida	His blunt personality...
Adaman	Yeah, it reminds me of someone...
(Lucas's Dialga lets itself out of its Poké Ball)
Lucas	Dialga?
(Cyrus's Palkia cries out)
Cyrus	What is it, Palkia?
Adaman	Ugh!
Dawn	Adaman! Irida! What's wrong?!
Irida	This is...
Adaman	My head... Mighty Dialga's talking...inside my head! It's telling me to use the power of time and space to ease the space-time distortion...
Irida	Mighty Palkia is telling me that we can stop the space-time distortion from spreading by working together!
Lucas	Dialga and Palkia are speaking to you?
Cyrus	How unscientific. However, it does coincide with some of Team Galactic's research.
Dawn	Huh?
Cyrus	Time and space... If a large number of wild Pokémon are appearing in this phenomenon's vicinity... I can hypothesize it's because various times and spaces are connected.
Lucas	If we assume your hypothesis is correct...
Cyrus	There's a chance the disturbances are forming because the balance between time and space has been disrupted.
Dawn	If so, we might be able to use the power of time and space to restore balance and stop the distortions!
Adaman	Yeah, sounds great!
Irida	What do you think, as one who has a connection to mighty Palkia?
Cyrus	Fine. I'll cooperate. I'm curious whether this will prove my hypothesis correct—and what the results will show.
Irida	Excellent! With mighty Palkia's cooperation, I'm much more confident this will go well!
Adaman	So, what's the plan?
Cyrus	Within the distortion, wild Pokémon will become an obstacle. It would be more effective, then, to apply force from outside the distortion, in a pincer movement.
Irida	So we'll have mighty Palkia and Dialga working from opposite sides of the distortion.
Adaman	Sounds like a plan!
Lucas	Let's split up and get started!

Cyrus	(There was third power at work here, from the reverse side that doesn't follow the laws of physics...) Hmph. So she's here, too.
(Ruins, outside the space-time distortion)
Barry	We did it! It's getting smaller and smaller!
Cynthia	Let's finish this quickly! I have a lot of questions for those two Professor Bellis mentioned, who everyone's talking about!
(Field; the space-time distortion disappears)
Lucas	W-we did it! The space-time distortion is gone!
Adaman	It's really over?
Lucas	Yeah! You're a lifesaver, Dialga! It's all thanks to you lending us your power!
Adaman	(Once again, people and Pokémon joined together...) (and saved the world from destruction.) Looks like it's time for us to make a decision.
(Town; Professor Bellis is talking to Dawn, Lucas, Adaman, and Irida)
Later on...
Dawn	Huh? The rift is still open?
Lucas	And you're saying more space-time distortions have been forming, too?!
Professor Bellis	Occasionally, yes. But on a smaller scale.
Lucas	So we didn't fix the root of the problem...
Adaman	Don't worry. We were able to stop the worst of it, weren't we?
Irida	If anything happens again, I'm sure we can resolve it together.
Dawn	Huh? But I thought you two wanted to get back home as soon as possible.
Adaman	Well...we do, but we don't know how.
Irida	So for now, we've decided to stay here on Pasio until we figure it out!
Adaman	Other people and Pokémon from Hisui might come here, too...
Irida	So we'll be sure to take care of them if they do. Leave it to us!
Lucas	Are you sure?
Adaman	Yeah. Our minds are made up.
(Adaman and Irida send Leafeon and Glaceon out of Poké Balls)
Adaman	As proof of how serious we are, we even have Leafeon and Glaceon in Poké Balls now. When someone from Hisui comes here, or when we eventually find our way back there... We'll have to set the example and show them how people and Pokémon can live together in harmony.
Irida	Sync pairs are the perfect example! So please, let us stay and learn from all of you!
Lucas	Sure, of course!
Professor Bellis	chuckle I can tell it's going to get lively here.
Dawn	Let's give it our best, Adaman, Irida!
Adaman	You got it! Since we'll be here a while, let's help each other out!

This story event was the first to feature characters from Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Adaman and Irida mention or allude to several other characters from Hisui in this event:
- They mistake Lucas for Rei.
- They mistake Dawn for Akari.
- They mention that they know people in Hisui who have traveled to an unknown land in a distant time, referring to Rei and Ingo.
- They mistake Saturn for Coin.
- They mistake Mars for Arezu.
- Cyrus reminds them of Cyllene.
The plot point where Adaman and Irida mistake Team Galactic for the Galaxy Team makes more sense in the original Japanese, where both groups are called (ギンガ団 Ginga-dan).
