As Groudon N/A

(Japanese: メタ・グラードン Meta Groudon) is the secondary antagonist of Jirachi: Wish Maker. It is not a true Groudon, instead being a corrupted, purely evil being that sought to absorb the energy from the world.

History

Groudon Fossil in Butler's presentation to Team Magma

Butler was assigned by Team Magma to bring a Groudon back to life using a Fossil of the prehistoric Pokémon. However, his experiment failed, as his machine lacked the proper amount of power. Butler was exiled from Team Magma for his failure, leaving him with a growing resentment towards the organization. Butler planned to use the power of the Millennium Comet to complete his experiment, but he needed a Jirachi, which could channel the comet's energy. Some time later, Butler found the Jirachi he had been searching for in the land of Forina.

Brock and May inside Meta Groudon

After the Jirachi had awaken from its thousand-year sleep, Butler successfully finished his experiment. Unfortunately, his creation was pure evil, and began absorbing the energy from the earth as well as living organisms such as plants, people, and Pokémon; including May, Brock, Diane, Jessie, James, Meowth, and many nearby wild Pokémon; with gelatinous tentacles expelled from its spikes.

Being hit with Jirachi's Doom Desire

After seeing the error of his ways, Butler decided to aid Ash in destroying his own creation by reversing the polarity of his machine. However, Meta Groudon had to be near the machine for it to work, and Jirachi had to once again charge the energy gained from the comet. Ash and Max flew on the back of a wild Flygon with Jirachi to distract Meta Groudon, while Butler, on his Salamence, flew to his machine to set it up for their plan. After the set-up was complete, Jirachi entered the machine and began to charge. While this happened, Butler, Salamence, and Flygon were all captured by Meta Groudon. Meta Groudon started to envelop the machine with its enormous body, but Jirachi finished charging and unleashed its Doom Desire sending the beast high in the air, where it was completely obliterated.

After Meta Groudon was defeated, all of the people and Pokémon it had consumed were revitalized.

It briefly reappeared in a montage in The Rise of Darkrai, which chronicled the preceding nine movies.

Personality and characteristics

As Meta Groudon was not a real Pokémon, it lacked a personality. Due to it being created through Jirachi's power and Butler's selfish wishes, this Groudon-like being was a manifestation of pure evil, and it consumed people and Pokémon alike while sucking up energy from the earth. As such, it was deemed to be an abomination.

Meta Groudon's instinctual goal was to absorb the life energy of the earth and the living things around it. It could absorb energy from the ground and nearby plants merely by standing in their vicinity. When faced with moving targets, Meta Groudon could morph its claws and the spikes on its body into gelatinous tentacles of a significant length. Anything engulfed by these tentacles would be stored in blood cell-like bubbles inside Meta Groudon's body, presumably until their energy was completely drained. Meta Groudon displayed exceptional resilience in combat, easily shrugging off all attacks used against it. Only Jirachi's Doom Desire was able to harm it, and this was only after Jirachi had absorbed enough energy from it to cause its body to begin melting into a viscous sludge. At this point, Meta Groudon could no longer maintain its form and attempted to destroy the last of its enemies by suffocating them under its melting body, only to be destroyed shortly thereafter.
