Today is Thursday.

The seven days of the week are a mechanic appearing in the core series games that feature time. Certain in-game events are triggered only on certain days of the week. Certain NPCs in Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver will make an appearance on certain days throughout the in-game week. The core series games in Generation II and Generations IV to VIII incorporate the in-game clock.

Gold, Silver, and Crystal

While many events take place depending on the day of the week, there are some events that always take place, but change slightly depending on the day:

• The Pokémon Music Channel broadcasts either the Pokémon March or the Pokémon Lullaby.
• The corresponding Week Sibling will give away an item when spoken to for the first time.

Below are all the events that depend on the day of the week.

Effects of changing the clock

If the clock is reset, every time-based event moves forward and can be repeated right away. Time-based events with a specific window need the clock to be set within that frame.

Diamond and Pearl

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, every day, a different Trainer will battle the player in the lobby of Jubilife TV and Julia will give the player a different Ribbon.

Platinum

Many Pokémon Centers have Trainers that will battle the player. They cycle through the days of the week and are specific to their location. There are eight Trainers (four alone and two pairs) that will battle the player in a Pokémon Center. These Trainers will be in six Pokémon Centers* (one or two Trainers in each Pokémon Center). The six Pokémon Centers in which they appear will change depending on the day of the week.

Also, Julia will give the player a different Ribbon each day of the week.

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, several events will take place depending on the day of the week. While some of them may only take place in specific days, the following ones will happen every day, but will change slightly depending on the day:

• The Pokémon Music Channel will broadcast a different music.
• The corresponding Week Sibling will give the player an item or a Ribbon.
• Certain Trainers may be called for a rematch.
• You may have a picture of the player and their party taken in specific locations.
• The items available in the Athlete Shop at the Pokéathlon Dome will change.

Effects of changing the clock

If the game detects a different clock, either by changing the date or time of the system or by booting the game in a different system and saving, time-based events will be affected differently.

The following time-based events can be done by directly changing the clock to the time window in which they are active:

• The Bug-Catching Contest.
• The Clefairy event at Mt. Moon Square.
• Taking commemorative pictures.
• The availability of items at the Pokéathlon Dome's Athlete Shop.
• The Lapras special encounter in Union Cave.
• Pokégear radio shows.
• Obtaining the Gym Leaders' phone numbers.
• Rematch calls with the Gym Leaders.
• The rematch against Silver at Indigo Plateau.
• The S.S. Aqua voyage.
• The opening of shops in the Goldenrod Tunnel.
• The appearance of the Week Siblings.

The following daily events can be done by changing the clock to 23:59 and letting the clock roll over to the next day in-game:

• Buena's Password at the Goldenrod Radio Tower. The password will not be available right after the clock rolls over. Saving the game after midnight, then changing the clock for a second time to when (or waiting until) her show is on air (2:00, 5:00, 8:00, 11:00, 14:00, 17:00, 20:00, or 23:00) is necessary.
• Daisy's massage in Pallet Town. The massage will not be available right after the clock rolls over. Saving the game after midnight, then changing the clock for a second time to when (or waiting until) the massage can be requested (15:00–16:00) is necessary.
• Mass outbreaks.
• Obtaining a new trendy phrase from the old man on Route 16.
• Picking Apricorns from trees.
• Entering the Pokémon Lottery Corner at the Goldenrod Radio Tower.
• Receiving Apricorn Balls from Kurt.
• Receiving Seals from the little girl in Olivine City.
• The Trainer House battle in Viridian City.

The following time-based events are impacted negatively if the game detects any time change:

• Berry growth: instead of calculating how long it has been since the game was last saved and matching the Berry's timer to the system's clock, the Berry's timer resumes right from when the game was last saved.
• Area upgrades at the Safari Zone: the invisible day counter will freeze for 24 hours, period after which it will resume counting days from where it left off when the game was last saved. Just like with Pal Park in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, if the clock was changed, the game to needs sync with the new time so that the penalization period starts running. This can be accomplished by booting the game and saving. Otherwise, the penalization period cannot begin nor end. If the game was booted in a different system, the penalization period can be prevented simply by not saving and, if available, returning the game to the system it's synchronized with.
