Snorunt (Japanese: ユキワラシ Yukiwarashi) is an Ice-type Pokémon.
}}
Snorunt (Japanese: ユキワラシ Yukiwarashi) is an Ice Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Biology
It evolves into either Glalie starting at level 42 or, if female, Froslass when exposed to a Dawn Stone.
Physiology
Gender differences
No physical differences, however female Snorunt are able to evolve into Froslass when exposed to radiation from a Dawn Stone. Snorunt of either gender can evolve into Glalie at level 42.

Special abilities
Biology
Behavior
Snorunt is a small, black Pokémon with an ovoid body. It has circular, light blue eyes, wide teeth, and spherical hands and feet that lack digits. It is covered with a yellow cloak that gives it a triangular outline. The coat is rimmed with an orange stripe and has three orange diamond markings on the back. As its evolved form Glalie has a body of rock, Snorunt may also be made of rock. In Scarlet and Violet, defeating a Snorunt, Glalie, or Froslass will yield some "Snorunt fur", suggesting the cloak is made of fur.
Habitat
Diet
Main article: Pokémon food

In the anime
Well-adapted to life in colder climates, it subsists on snow and ice and can survive temperatures as low as −150 degrees Fahrenheit. Snorunt is also a social creature, living and traveling with other Snorunt in groups of five. The group can live together in harmony while residing underneath giant leaves. It can be found in List of Pokémon by habitat, particularly when the outside lacks snow or areas with heavy snowfall. Despite this, the Snorunt population in Alola shows it can survive in some places with warm weather. Additionally, it has been known to visit human dwellings. There is a legend that any home a Snorunt visits and lives near will prosper for generations. There is a tradition where houses would leave a lump of ice made from pure water for Snorunt to have when visiting. Playing with Snorunt is a favorite childhood memory for rich people who live in cold areas. It is believed that if Snorunt shows up during the night, they will cause heavy snow to appear in the morning.
Snorunt first appeared in AG108. This Snow Hat Pokémon stole Ash's badges, and so he chased after it. Ash eventually gained Snorunt's trust and it joined his team. After learning Ice Beam by practicing extensively, Ash's Snorunt evolved into Glalie.

* Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky: In the Special Episode In the Future of Darkness, when Grovyle and Dusknoir arrive at Frozen Island, three Snorunt play a prank on Grovyle when pressed by him for the location of Primal Dialga's "new henchman". After clearing Dark Ice Mountain, Grovyle manages to press a different Snorunt for information, and it reveals that he saw three Sableye carrying what appeared to be Celebi through the Icicle Forest.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl / for Wii U /Ultimate
Snorunt appears on the Ice terrain of the Pokémon Stadium 2 stage in all three games, and also as a trophy in Brawl.

Trophy information
"A Snow Hat Pokémon. It usually moves about in groups of around five. According to folklore, "Snorunt seen at night herald deep snow the next day," and "homes in which Snorunt reside are sure to prosper." In reality, however, the truth behind Snorunt tales lies in mystery. Male Snorunt evolve into Glalie, while females given a Dawn Stone evolve into Froslass."

Trivia
* Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Snorunt trophy incorrectly claims that only male Snorunt evolve into Glalie.
* Snorunt and its evolutions are the only Ice Pokémon in the Fairy.
* Although the Ice has existed since the first Generation of Pokémon, Snorunt is the first pure Ice-type in the Pokédex, despite having debuted in the third Generation.

Origin
Snorunt is based on yukiwarashi, Japanese snow spirits in the form of a child.

More specifically, Snorunt may be based on yukinko, snow spirits with the appearance of a child wearing a Mino (straw cape), a traditional winter wear from Japan that consists of a conical snow-cloak made of straw. Yukinko are also said to be the children of yuki-onna; this likely inspired Snorunt evolving into Froslass, who seems to be based on the latter.

Evolution
Snorunt's Pokédex entries seem to suggest it is also based on zashiki-warashi, mischievous spirits said to bring fortune to families it visits; and on the Korpokkur, a race of small people in Ainu people folklore said to live in harmony under the leaves of plants.

Trivia
Name origin
Snorunt was the first pure Ice-type.  All Ice-types before it had been half Ice-type.  The only other pure Ice-types following it are Glalie, Regice, and Glaceon.
Snorunt may be a combination of snow and runt (a smaller-than-average animal).
Origin
Snorunt is based on a "Yukinko", a Japanese sprite said to emerge when it snows, according to folk tales, as well as the zashiki warashi, a spiritual creature found in the folklore of Iwate Prefecture. It also seems to be a stylized version of a person wearing a yuki mino, a traditional Japanese winter costume worn long ago by many people in the snowy parts of Japan consisting of a conical snow-cloak made of straw.  Generally, Yukinko are depicted as small elf-like creatures wearing yuki mino.

Name origin
Yukiwarashi is literally 雪童子 yukiwarashi (either referring to the generic name for childlike snow spirits, or the 雪童子 (説話).
Snorunt's name is a combination of snow and runt, referring to a small animal. Its Japanese name possibly is a combination of 雪 yuki, snow, and 座敷童子 zashiki warashi, a spiritual creature found in the folklore of Iwate Prefecture. The French name is based off of "stalagmite".
It may also involve a combination of 雪 yuki (snow) and 座敷童子 zashiki-warashi or 童子 warashi (archaic word for child).

Snorunt (Japanese: ユキワラシ Yukiwarashi) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves into either Glalie starting at level 42 or, if female, Froslass when exposed to a Dawn Stone.

Biology

Snorunt is a small, black Pokémon with an ovoid body. It has circular, light blue eyes, wide teeth, and spherical hands and feet that lack digits. It is covered with a yellow cloak that gives it a triangular outline. The coat is rimmed with an orange stripe and has three orange diamond markings on the back. As its evolved form Glalie has a body of rock, Snorunt may also be made of rock. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, defeating a Snorunt, Glalie, or Froslass will yield some "Snorunt fur", suggesting the cloak is made of fur.

It can be found in caves, particularly when the outside lacks snow or areas with heavy snowfall.

Evolution

Snorunt evolves into either Glalie or, if female, Froslass.

Trivia

Origin

Snorunt is based on yukiwarashi, Japanese snow spirits in the form of a child.

More specifically, Snorunt may be based on yukinko, snow spirits with the appearance of a child wearing a minoboushi, a traditional winter wear from Japan that consists of a conical snow-cloak made of straw. Yukinko are also said to be the children of yuki-onna; this likely inspired Snorunt evolving into Froslass, who seems to be based on the latter.

Snorunt's Pokédex entries seem to suggest it is also based on zashiki-warashi, mischievous spirits said to bring fortune to families it visits; and on the Korpokkur, a race of small people in Ainu folklore said to live in harmony under the leaves of plants.

Name origin

Snorunt may be a combination of snow and runt (a smaller-than-average animal).

Yukiwarashi is literally 雪童子 yukiwarashi (either referring to the generic name for childlike snow spirits, or the homonym tale in the folklore of Niigata Prefecture). It may also involve a combination of 雪 yuki (snow) and 座敷童子 zashiki-warashi or 童子 warashi (archaic word for child).
