Chansey (Japanese: ラッキー Lucky) is a Normal Pokémon.
Chansey (Japanese: ラッキー Lucky) is a Normal Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Happiny when leveled up while holding an Oval Stone during the day and evolves into Blissey when leveled up with high friendship.

She evolves from Happiny when leveled up holding an Evolution-inducing held item during the day and evolves into Blissey when leveled up with high friendship.
(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data&rarr;Evolution data for these details.)

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Chansey is a pink, ovoid Pokémon with stubby arms and dark pink feet. It has tiny eyes and three hair-like growths on each side of its head. The tufts of hair have dark pink tips. On the center of its belly is a dark pink pouch that contains a single white egg. The egg is said to be very nutritious and it lays several new ones every day. Finally, it has a short tail. Chansey is a female-only species with no male counterpart.
Chansey have pink, egg-shaped bodies. They have hair-like outgrowths on the side of their heads instead of the pigtail they had as a Happiny. Chansey have List of Pokémon by body style. Chansey's lower body is fully developed and they now have a pouch that holds an egg.

Gender differences
A kindhearted Pokémon, Chansey will share its eggs with injured people and Pokémon. However, Chansey will never share its egg to those with evil hearts. The eggs become more delicious if Chansey is raised with love and care. Chansey's egg is used as a high-class cooking ingredient due to the nutrition it has. As a result, Chansey have been referred to as doctors' doubles because of its eggs. Due to its egg being over-harvested, Chansey is extremely rare in the wild and is said to bring good luck and happiness to those who manage to catch it. Fleeing from those seeking its egg has made this once-slow species much quicker on its feet than in the past. It is more commonly found in List of Pokémon by habitat. Chansey is the only known Pokémon capable of using the Lucky Punch item. In Legends: Arceus, if the player is injured, any nearby Chansey will come to check them out, and then flee when they're fully healed. They don't actually heal the player, however.
Chansey is a female-only species with no male counterpart.

Special abilities
Chansey and its evolutionary relatives are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Soft-Boiled by leveling up.
Chansey, and her evolved form, Blissey, are the only known Pokémon that can learn Softboiled by leveling up. However, Mew could learn it from a TM in Generation I, while members of the Clefairy and Togepi families can be tutored the move in Generation III.

Behavior
Evolution
Extremely rare in the wild, Chansey is said to bring friendship and extremely good luck to those who are lucky enough to capture her. Chansey lays several eggs each day. The egg is extremely nutritious and tasty. A kindhearted and charitable Pokémon, Chansey will share her eggs with injured Pokémon she may come across. However, she will not share her egg with anyone who has evil in his or her heart.
Chansey evolves from Happiny and evolves into Blissey.
Chansey walks carefully to protect her egg from damage, but can be startlingly fast when she must run from danger.

Habitat
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data&rarr;Evolution data.)

<div style="float:center; display:flex; flex-flow:row wrap;">
Chansey are rarely seen in the wild. Wild ones are said to exist in Kanto and Sinnoh. They have also been imported into Johto's Johto.

Trivia
Trivia
* In the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Chansey was originally known as "Lucky", which also happens to be her romanized Japanese name.
* In the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Chansey was originally known as "Lucky", which also happens to be its romanized Japanese name.
* In Generation III, Chansey and her evolution Blissey had the highest base experience yield of all Pokémon.
* Chansey shares its category name with Exeggcute. They are both known as the Egg Pokémon.
** In Generation IV, this attribute is further shared with her pre-evolution Happiny, as well as Arceus.
* Chansey received the biggest decrease to its Special stats in Generation II, losing 70 points of its Special Attack stat.
** In Generation V, Chansey no longer has the highest yield, as Blissey's yield was greatly increased.
* Chansey's HP increase is the largest single stat increase after evolving from Happiny, at 150 points.
* Chansey is one of five Pokémon that initially did not evolve into or from another Pokémon, but now is part of a three-stage evolutionary line (the other four being Electabuzz, Magmar, Porygon and Roselia). While Electabuzz and Magmar gained a pre-evolution in Generation II and an evolution in Generation IV, Chansey did the reverse, gaining her evolution first.
* Chansey is tied with Happiny for the lowest base Attack and Defense stats of all Pokémon, both at five.
** Chansey is the first Pokémon in National Pokédex order to be related by evolution to Pokémon from two different generations to her own.
* Chansey's HP is the highest base stat to base stat total ratio. Its HP stat of 250 makes up approximately 55.6% of its base stat total.
* Chansey, and her evolution family have the most in-game items associated with them. This includes: Lucky Punch, Lucky Egg, Incense, and the Evolution-inducing held item.
* Chansey, Porygon2, and Dipplin are the only non-fully evolved Pokémon that evolve from another Pokémon through the use of an item.
* Chansey shares the same species name with Exeggcute. They are both known as the Egg Pokémon.
* In Generation II, when breeding was introduced, and beyond, Chansey hatch from an Egg with an egg already in their pouch. The same oddity occurs with Kangaskhan, which hatch with a baby in their pouches, and Happiny, which hatch with a rock in their pouches.
** Her Platinum Pokédex entry states that she lays eggs, confirming that Pokémon are able to do so (as it has been mentioned that nobody has seen Pokémon lay eggs); however, these eggs are apparently not Chansey or Happiny Eggs, but eggs that are high in nutrition instead. Theoretically, these eggs could possibly be unfertilized Chansey or Happiny Eggs. However, these eggs do not match the color scheme of Eggs in the games, or Happiny Eggs in the anime.

Origin
Origin
Her tendency to carry eggs in a pouch is very monotreme- or marsupial-like. She may also just be based on a general concept of females and motherhood. As her Pokédex entries mention her tendency to lay nutritious eggs everyday, Chansey may also be based on chickens or other poultry fowls.
Chansey's names, the fact that it shares nutritious eggs, is very rare and runs very quickly suggest it may be based on literal luck and its elusiveness. It also serves the typical RPG game role of a medic.

Chansey's tendency to carry eggs in a pouch is very reminiscent of a monotreme (mainly the echidnas) or marsupial, but it may also simply be based on a general concept of females and motherhood. As the Pokédex mentions its frequent laying of nutritious eggs, Chansey may also be based on chickens or other poultry, and its "ears" give it the semblance of an axolotl.

Name origin
Name origin
Chansey is a corruption of chance and chancy. It may refer to Chansey's rarity and/or the chance of a successful catch.
Chansey may be from either chance or chancy.

Lucky is literally lucky, for the same possible reason.

Chansey (Japanese: ラッキー Lucky) is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Happiny when leveled up while holding an Oval Stone during the day and evolves into Blissey when leveled up with high friendship.

(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for these details.)

Biology

Chansey is a pink, ovoid Pokémon with stubby arms and dark pink feet. It has tiny eyes and three hair-like growths on each side of its head. The tufts of hair have dark pink tips. On the center of its belly is a dark pink pouch that contains a single white egg. The egg is said to be very nutritious and it lays several new ones every day. Finally, it has a short tail. Chansey is a female-only species with no male counterpart.

It is more commonly found in urban settings. Chansey is the only known Pokémon capable of using the Lucky Punch item. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, if the player is injured, any nearby Chansey will come to check them out, and then flee when they're fully healed. They don't actually heal the player, however.

Chansey and its evolutionary relatives are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Soft-Boiled by leveling up.

Evolution

Chansey evolves from Happiny and evolves into Blissey.

Trivia

 • In the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Chansey was originally known as "Lucky", which also happens to be its romanized Japanese name.
 • Chansey shares its category name with Exeggcute. They are both known as the Egg Pokémon.
 • Chansey received the biggest decrease to its Special stats in Generation II, losing 70 points of its Special Attack stat.
 • Chansey's HP increase is the largest single stat increase after evolving from Happiny, at 150 points.
 • Chansey is tied with Happiny for the lowest base Attack and Defense stats of all Pokémon, both at five.
 • Chansey's HP is the highest base stat to base stat total ratio. Its HP stat of 250 makes up approximately 55.6% of its base stat total.
 • Chansey, Porygon2, and Dipplin are the only non-fully evolved Pokémon that evolve from another Pokémon through the use of an item.

Origin

Name origin

Chansey may be from either chance or chancy.

Lucky is literally lucky.
