(Japanese: アイリス Iris) is a girl from the Isshu region who is the current traveling companion of Ash.

Silhouettes of Iris and Dent were shown after DP183 aired on July 1, 2010. The two were officially revealed during a trailer for the anime shown on Pokémon Sunday exactly one month later.

Character

She is said to be a wild girl who likes to swing on vines and eat berries. Her Pokémon friend Kibago travels with her in her hair instead of inside a Poké Ball.

History

Iris made her first appearance in BW001 where she was seen watching Zekrom's storm. In BW002, She and her Kibago were picking berries; Ash, thinking something was in the bushes, looked it up on his Pokédex and found it was a Kibago so he decided to capture it. He threw a Poké Ball which hit Iris on the head. She appeared to him and started yelling at him, before seeing Pikachu which electrocuted her. When Ash chased after a group of Shikijika, she told him that he should weaken them first, but the Shikijika ran away.

It started to get dark and Iris found a tree full of apples, which buried Ash. Ash started to talk to her but after a while she fell asleep. The next day Iris was nowhere to be seen before turning up right after Ash caught a Mamepato. Suddenly Team Rocket appeared and captured Pikachu and Kibago, but a Mijumaru saved the day with a Water Gun.

In BW003 on their way to Sanyou City they suddenly fall down a hole, but a boy named Dan helped them. He is the owner of a spa, but before Iris could relax, a Meguroco arrives and clutched Kibago in its jaws, but the group were able to get it out. They followed after the Meguroco, who had Pikachu and Mijumaru and hid behind a rock. Later, Ash helped the wild Pokémon off a piece of rock, which was in the middle of hot water caused by a geyser. Ash used a bridge of Meguroco to cross, but the bridge started to fall, and when Ash was about to fall in, Iris grabbed his hand and saved him. In the end the group were treated to a hot spring.

In BW004, when they reached Karakusa Town, Iris recommended Ash should try the Battle Club, so they entered. After seeing the mysterious Pokémon, they decided to lure it with food. In the end, Iris was about to catch the Pokabu when it turned towards, Ash who caught it.

Trivia

  • Iris is Ash's only female traveling companion whose Japanese name does not contain the kana ka, and the only traveling companion whose Japanese name is comprised of more than three kana.
  • Iris is also the first not to have a bike, unlike the other three whose bikes were destroyed by Ash's Pikachu.
    • However, instead of a bike, Pikachu shocked her instead.
