(Japanese: アイリス Iris) is a girl from the Unova region who is a current traveling companion of Ash.
History
Not much is known about Iris's life before she joined Ash on his journey but in BW009 some was revealed. Iris's hometown, which is located under mountains, is home to multiple Kibago and Onondo, and the town was shown to commemorate Zekrom and Reshiram. A respected lady in the town gave Iris a Kibago. Before joining Ash, she has shown to have captured a Doryuzu.
Iris made her first appearance in BW001, where she was seen watching Zekrom's storm. She appeared again in BW002, where she and her Kibago were picking Berries in the bushes. Ash scanned the bush with his Pokédex, and seeing it to be a Kibago, decided to catch it, so he threw a Poké Ball that hit Iris in the head, enraging her. She and Ash introduced themselves after this slight misunderstanding, and Iris decided to travel with Ash through Unova.
In BW011 she is shown to make herbal remedies to heal sick Pokémon, similar to Brock.
Character
She is said to be a wild girl who likes to swing on vines and eat berries. Her Pokémon friend Kibago travels with her in her hair instead of inside a Poké Ball. She seems to be very hyper in occasions such as climbing up trees very quickly. She is very adventurous, bold and obnoxious. She is a quick thinker such as in BW003 saving Ash from falling into hot water. She in some occasions becomes invasive with some Pokémon such as Ash's Pikachu which normally causes the Pokémon to attack her.
It's currently unknown why she wants to travel with Ash, but she was excited about traveling with him.
In BW011 she is shown to be skilled at making medicine.

Trivia
- Iris is Ash's only female traveling companion whose Japanese name does not contain the kana カ ka, and the only traveling companion whose Japanese name is comprised of more than three kana. She is also the first to have a western name instead of a traditional Japanese name. This relates to Unova's partial geographical inspiration of New York.
- Iris is also the first not to have a bike, unlike the other three whose bikes were destroyed by Ash's Pikachu.
- However, instead of a bike, Pikachu shocked her.
- Silhouettes of Iris and Dent were shown after DP183 aired on July 1, 2010. The two were officially revealed during a trailer for the anime shown on Pokémon Sunday exactly one month later.
- Like Misty, Iris has some tomboyish traits and criticizes Ash wherever he does something rash by referring to him as a child. As Misty with Starmie, Iris has already obtained a fully-evolved Pokémon before joining Ash on his journey.
- Also, like Starmie, Doryuzu is part of a two-stage evolutionary line, and it gains a secondary type after its evolution.
